STRUGGLING FOR MONEY
Obviously the Palin Pick is to blame for Barack Obama's money
problems. Suddenly his decision not to take public financing
for the final part of the race is not looking like a good
idea. Check
the Newsmeat numbers. Currently John
McCain has about $21 million cash at hand. That is not
counting the potful John McCain will soon get for public financing of
his campaign. Barack Obama has about $65 million cash at hand
- that's it. KEEP IN MIND: The DNC is in bad trouble financially, Obama now controls it. The RNC is raking in the cash. There are times when arrogance is a good thing, like a wild west gunfight facing down a bad guy on the dusty streets of a mining town. Then, it is something akin to psychological warfare. But, the American people have a B/S Meter when it comes to arrogance. It doesn't play well. People don't like it. Politicians who go around acting all arrogant and superrior usually end up getting a major put-down. Barack Obama was doing fair before the Palin Pick. He was not doing great, though. It should also be noted that John McCain was probably doing just as good as Barack Obama (DNC hoopla excluded). It is entirely possible even without the Palin Pick, John McCain would still be ahead.
Why?
Barack Obama is flayling. He is failing. He is falling apart, politically, emotionally, financially, and psychologically. People may be smelling blood. When that happens, a campaign can drop faster than the Dow Jones Average on a bad day. Are we starting to see the first sign of this in the problems Obama is experiencing raising campaign cash or is this to be expected. Here at The Pink Flamingo, I've been predicting Obama would be experiencing some cash flow problems. He's spending money faster than The Pink Flamingo would at a 70% off shoe sale at Bloomingdales.
John McCain is starting to pull in the cash. Is it the Palin Pick or simply the contrast between McCain and Obama?
Barack's White Lies has a posting about Obama and cash. The Pink Flamingo thinks Barack Obama is having a cash flow problem because of the way he is spending money. He's sending Caroline Kennedy into Santa Fe for a massive fund-raiser at $23,000 a pop to host. From what I know about New Mexico, it isn't going to be the hottest ticket in town.
Why all this push? I read somewhere that McCain said for Barack Obama to be able to compete with him this fall, he would need to raise an additional $200,000,000. That's a heck of a lot of money. If opting out of public financing is one of Obama's first executive decisions, it is a bad one simply because he is going to need to put a heck of a lot of time into fund-raising, while Big Mac can simply attack!
All those little offices must be costing quite a bit of money. For example, here in Lincoln County, the Obama Campaign has an office in Ruidoso in the same unit where my friend Josie once had her frame shop. I know how much the rent is, in a fairly prime location maybe a block or so away from Starbucks. It goes for about $2500 a month. You toss in internet, phone, lights, and their "decorating" and I would say the campaign is chucking out a minimum of five thousand bucks a month - or about $10 - $12,000 between now and the election. I know of 3 offices in Las Cruces. There are several in ABQ and Santa Fe. So now he's pushing at least $100,000 here in New Mexico from now until the election just to keep these offices open. Here in Lincoln County I think it is a big joke. This is one of the "reddest" counties in the country. Even my friend the Democrat is planning to vote for John McCain.
Continuing, we have 50 states by my count. I've heard by Obama's it's up to about 60 now. Using the conservative count of 50 states, the man's going to chuck out a good 5 - 10 million bucks. He doesn't have that much, and needs to spend a pot-ful on advertising. Remember, the RNC is loaded. The DNC is basically broke. There are also the bills for Denver that need to be paid.
If my theory is correct, maybe we should start watching for the ongoing implosion of Barack Obama. It could be interesting.
