Thirteen Remodeling Plans for My Condo

The Pink Flamingo is home this Wednesday.  The past two weeks I've been doing the chauffeur thing with the parents and their medical appointments.  Everything is good, but it puts a crimp in any Thursday Thirteen!

Now that the thyroid medication is starting to kick in, I'm feeling a heck of a lot better.  I'm now ready to tackle things here at my condo I've been avoiding for well over a year. This morning I put in a call to my contractor.  One of these days I'll manage to catch him and haul him over here.  Most of the plans are quite simple.  I have a couple major things I need to do, though.

In the near future you are going to be hearing a lot about women and thyroid medication and how we're not getting the right treatment, tests, and medication.  35% of women who who have serious problems test "normal" on most or all of the blood tests available.  I've been begging for help for several years and had 89% of the symptoms but my blood tests (all of them - $7000 worth since January) were all normal.  It is something 35% of American women literally must fight for to get any help at all.

1.  The very first thing is to repair the damage done by the leak in the skylight.  The leak was repaired last week.  Since then we've had quite a bit of rain, so I know it's fixed.

2.  Rip up the vile carpet in my kitchen and in the dining room and replace it with wood. Doc Holiday relaxes in a new box. Also napping are Bubbles, Bat Masterson (on chair) and Hoss Cartwright.

3.  Put a door-nob on my entry-way junk closet.

Then I need to have Jody put up some shelves to prevent landslides.

4.  Get Mommy Cat "fixed" so we will have no more kittens.  (Shown, Hoss Cartwright, age 10 weeks).

Get new oven - I caught this one on fire, then blew up the microwave.  It no longer works.  I've not had time to get it replaced.  Want to re-configure entire kitchen.

5.  Replace this mess with a "island".  The cabinets hold very little.  There's about 8 sq feet of dead space I could replace with usable shelves.

6.  Sent my Grandmother Froehlich's hutch down to my mother (she has a place for it) and replace it with ceiling to floor glass shelves.  If I can afford the cabinets, I will have the cabinet maker come and do something spiffy.  If not, I'll have Jody help me with it.

7.  Move curio cabinet downstairs.  Replace table with cabinet.  Move the Indiana Jones lobby card somewhere else.

8.  Change carpet on stairs.

9.  Paint hallway yellow.  Put photos back up on wall, fix those that are crooked.

When the skylight started leaking I had to remove photos and just stack them.

I noticed how bad the wall looks.  My friend Josie decided I needed to paint the stair area yellow.  She's right.

10.  Move tables around.
1.  Tile table goes to living room in front of single window.  I did the tile work on the table.

2.  Long table replaces table in front of double windows.  The pink depression glass will go in new cabinets on wall in dining room.

That table replaces round table by sofa. The arrangement will go on the above table, as well as one of the teal lamps.

The other one doesn't work, so it gets tossed.  I'll put the glass sculpture somewhere else.  I refinished this table, and did the arrangement.

11.  Replace blinds.  My blinds are a disaster, primarily because misc. cats.  Bubbles enjoys climbing them. I did the mosaic on the fireplace profile.

12.  Tile floor of patio (pink tile).

13.  New shelves:
1.  Replace with shelves - put printer, etc. on it.

2.  Replace with bookshelves in the guest room.  My mother is taking the book shelves for her guest room.  BTW - The cowboy hat on the shelves once belonged to Gary Cooper.  Got it from an old boyfriend. The hat with the roses was given to me by my grandmother.  I put the "rose wreath" on it.  I used the wreath as part of a costume, once upon a time.

In an ideal world I will be able to put a wood floor in the living room, dining room, and kitchen.  I can move the fridge to where the range is now, put the stove top and an oven in an island that will replace the "bar" above.  Then I can have some drawers in the island.  I would then take the alcove where the fridge is and turn it into a pantry.  If I get half my "wish" I will be happy.

Dime con quien andas y te digo quien eres.
