COLOR NEW MEXICO RED!

The Pink Flamingo has been repeatedly telling you that there is a good chance John McCain is ahead in New Mexico.  The latest Mason-Dixon numbers are just in.  It's just 45%-41% but I'll take it!  This poll, taken last week, dealing with the west ( AZ, NM, CO, NV, UT, WY) has McCain ahead everywhere but Colorado.  More recent Colorado numbers are looking good.  Joe Monahan thinks Biden is going to help Obama in NM's rural areas, but I'm just not seeing that.
"...Biden, 65, has demonstrated appeal to working class Anglos, a weak spot for Obama and one which Dems hope Biden can help him shore up. In fact, several of our Gators felt sending Biden to SE NM would be a good place to have him mine for votes. Not all agreed. "Joe Biden help in rural new Mexico? What are people smoking? It's more likely that Big Bill will be Hillary's VP choice on the Democrats 2012 ticket." Opined another Alligator. Others said Biden doesn't do anything for the ticket in NM.

Dem US Senate nominee Tom Udall pointed to a personal tie he has to Biden: “I’ve personally known and respected Sen. Biden since I worked for him as a special projects assistant during the Summer of 1973, right after he was elected to office. Since then, I’ve known Joe Biden as a dedicated public servant who will work for change..." Said Udall in a Midnight hour e-mail...."
I find something else interesting.  Monahan mentions that Bill Richardson received this very nice call from Barack Obama telling him he was out of the running for VP.  Too bad Obama couldn't extend the same manners and decency to the person who received nearly 20,000,000 votes in the Dem primaries.  He also points out the latest polling on the Senate race, where there is only a 10 pint spread between Pearce and Udall.  If we see the same pace continue, by the end of Sept. it is possible Pearce will be ahead. 

I find the whole statement about Biden demonstrating an appeal to working class Anglos a total crock. (I gotta find a new word). I am not seeing it, but then I live in Lincoln County where people are still shaking their heads over the pick.  Up in Rio Rancho there is (allegedly) a viper's nest of Obamacons.  I also find Obamacons a strange thing and truly wonder if they are actually Republicans. Then again, Rio Rancho is the butt of any joke about New Mexico.

There is a bottom line here.  The Southwest is turning from Purple to solid Red (as usual).  Everything is up for grabs here, considering the Dem convention going on.  If what went on today between Ed Rendall and Andrea Mitchell is any harbinger of things to come, don't hold your breath on that "unity" thing.
