SCARLET O’HARA OBAMA

(cue the music)
Any normal human being, on the eve of his/her coronation (and I am using the term  facetiously) as the nominee of any major political party, be it Democrat or Republican should be on an emotional high that last weekend before their convention. When a person is an egomaniacal headline-hog who envisions himself as the second coming of the second coming and is seriously having poll problems, it must be a very frustrating time, which is illustrated by the proverbial throwing of the kitchen sink.

John McCain is senile.
John McCain is out of touch.
John McCain doesn’t know how many homes he has. 
I know who my VP is but I’m not telling.
No, it’s not Hillary Clinton.
No, I’m going to text the message.
Oh, I will appear with my choice on Saturday.
I may not say who it is until the convention.
I saw a UFO land in my back yard last night.
I know where Bigfoot is, and he’s in my freezer.
I was a zombie for the chain gang.
I was a teenage werewolf.
I’ve made my VP choice.
John McCain has bad breath.
My polls have fallen and I can’t get the back up.

It doesn’t matter how he reached the top.  Barack Obama has reached the top of his career.  Like Scarlet O’Hara he has done what-ever it takes to get there.  But fiddily-dee! Scarlet did not have a happy ending, and I’m afraid neither is Barack Obama.  He is kneeling in that turnip patch, frantically digging for turnips, gorging himself on them.  Then he stands and waves a fist at heaven, “With God as my witness, I am going to be President of the United States.”

Cue the music.

Yea, yea I know the comparison is supercilious but so is the candidate.  I can think of no better comparison than Scarlet O’Hara, and all the irony that comparison reveals. You see, Scarlet was willing to do what-ever it took to win and come out ahead, no matter what.  It did not matter if she lied.  It did not matter if she cheated.  It did not matter if she stole.  All that mattered was Scarlet O’Hara and her quest for….Scarlet O’Hara.

Obama’s Rhett Butler, Tony Rezko is due to be sentenced in late October.  Miss Melanie Michelle has been thrown under the bus with a cast of dozens.  All that’s left is Ashley “Oprah” Wilkes.  The problem there is while our hero might think Ashley is the constant in his pathetic life, like Ashley, Oprah has her limits.  When she sees that her true love – the spotlight and her ratings – are suffering, she will dump Barack the way Ashley dumped Scarlet. “I thought you knew, I love my audience more than you.”

And so, when it’s all over, and you’ve spent all your donations, and need a new outfit, remember, you will look bilious wrapping yourself in Green.

When you lose, because you surely will, where will you go, what will you do?

Frankly, Barack, I don’t give a damn.

Remember – Hawaii.
