THE HOUSE BLEW IT
Let's just file this under the topic of what's new? (the sarcastic version). Once again the Republicans in the US House of Representatives blew one of the most perfect moments in House history. All they needed to do was dare Nancy Pelosi to have them arrested! They were so close to doing something really great when they started their protest. It was a beautiful moment. They gave me hope. Then, like some tin-horn gambler at the Long Branch Saloon, they caved in the face of glory. They went home. Just think what would have happened if they'd been hauled out, arrested, by the Capital police. It would have been a moment of glory.
AJ Strata at Stratasphere thinks it was a great moment for the GOP, that the Dems could have problems.. It was, but (once again) the GOP blew it, they way they have been doing lately. Captain Ed reports that Mark Tapscott agrees with me! He then writes,
"...Mark lays out the scenario in the first part of his essay. He doesn’t foresee mass arrests of House members for squatting, although that would have been delicious. Mark believes that the Republicans would have forced Pelosi back to Washington to re-open Congress and deal with the debate by essentially turning the floor of the House into a campground. No lights? Bring in some kerosene lamps. Invite the media to come in (with portable equipment, presumably) and see how long the GOP would wait for Pelosi to surrender. I’m not as certain as Mark that it would have forced Pelosi back to Washington … but it would have been fun to watch her and her caucus squirm over an unending rally to debate policy favored by 70% of the nation."
It would have been absolutely delicious if the GOP had the you know what's to force Miss Nancy back to DC. It would be even more delictable if she'd refused. They can still do this. I hear there are cries for GWB to demand a special session. If he would do this and she would refuse, oh the pain, oh the trauma, oh the .... sigh - fun!Let's face it, the Republicans in the House are suffering from two problems: Lack of Vision and Lack of Leadership. John Boehner is a disaster as the Minority Leader. I do hope the GOP replaces him sooner than later. Can you imagine the mess he would make of things if he were to be the Speaker? Do you realize one of the reasons the GOP in the House is in such a mess is because of Boehner's incompetence?
