I AM IN AWE
For the past few days I've been listening to the usual conservative sources (as in "round up the usual sources") once again turn Lindsey into the demonic entity akin to the Black Death. They are also trying to promote the idea that Lindsey has turned on John McCain. I know Lindsey. The other day I read something in the fine print about promoting nuclear energy. Anyone who knows Lindsey, South Carolina and Nuclear Energy knows the game's afoot.
Not only have they introduced a halfway decent energy proposal, but Lindsey has turned into "bad cop" for John McCain. Now McCain can go out and say "No New Taxes!". It is beautiful. Don't ever think Big Mac isn't behind some of this.
Then there are dimwit conservatives like Michelle Malkin who believes everything her handlers tell her. She is now against wind power because Nancy Pelosi is investing in it. Pelosi is smart. My father is fascinated with wind power. I've been finding him things on the web for several years now. Malkin is an idiot with this article. The potential for wind power is only limited by the lack of wind. It is clean. It is quiet. It doesn't pollute. If the occasional bird (I thought Malkin did not approve of protecting animals and birds) flies into one and is de-feathered, sorry about that. If I were building a new home, I would build a wind generator into it. The potential is boundless. Lindsey is interested in tax incentives (read DEDUCTIONS) for developing this sort of energy. WONDERFUL!
WHERE THE OIL IS
One of the sticking points that keeps conservatives padding their ratings by terrifying their brain-dead minions is this whole thing about only drilling off specific states. I wonder if these critics ever bothered looking for current maps of where potential oil and gas fields exist?
Oil/Gas Undiscovered Resources
Total outer shelf assessment
Alaska planning assessment
More totals
What we know is there is rather interesting. One of the reasons Lindsey is denigrated by the conservative minions of malice is because of the mandated limits to off-shore drilling. From what I can tell on this map, it's not really much of a story.
The usual conservative sources don't know what the heck they are talking about and can do nothing but mimic Rush. What's with these people and the whole arctic wilderness drilling thing. We have more potential oil here in Texas and New Mexico than in Alaska, and the weather's nicer. We don't need to promote it as much. If you want to know the truth of the matter, I think the reason some conservatives are so addicted to the prospect is to violate a national wildlife area.
Kimberly Strassel in the WSJ
"...Still, it was probably too much to assume every Republican would work out that their side was winning this issue. And so, last Friday, in stumbled Sens. Lindsey Graham, John Thune, Saxby Chambliss, Bob Corker and Johnny Isakson -- alongside five Senate Democrats. This "Gang of 10" announced a "sweeping" and "bipartisan" energy plan to break Washington's energy "stalemate." What they did was throw every vulnerable Democrat, and Mr. Obama, a life preserver.
That's because the plan is a Democratic giveaway. New production on offshore federal lands is left to state legislatures, and then in only four coastal states. The regulatory hurdles are huge. And the bill bars drilling within 50 miles of the coast -- putting off limits some of the most productive areas. Alaska's oil-rich Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is still a no-go.
The highlight is instead $84 billion in tax credits, subsidies and federal handouts for alternative fuels and renewables. The Gang of 10 intends to pay for all this in part by raising taxes on . . . oil companies! The Sierra Club couldn't have penned it better. And so the Republican Five has potentially given antidrilling Democrats the political cover they need to neutralize energy through November...."
I am not an expert on taxes or money. There is one thing I don't understand. Why do some businesses get greater tax breaks than others. According to the Tax Foundation, the US has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world. From what I can tell, this year, the Federal Rate for the US, over-all is 35%. There's something wrong here. This is an American Progress anti-McCain tax critique. Right now, from what I can tell, "Big Oil" is paying the same 35% Federal taxes that anyone who has a corporation in this nation is paying. John McCain wants to cut corporate taxes to 25%. WONDERFUL!That's because the plan is a Democratic giveaway. New production on offshore federal lands is left to state legislatures, and then in only four coastal states. I don't know much about economic items, but it seems to me if everyone is paying the same rate, then what's going on here. My sister has a new business. Her Federal Corporate tax rate is 35%. Exxon's Federal Rate is 35%. We are talking RATES. It doesn't matter if my sister makes a hundred bucks and Exxon makes a thousand (just using a number, means nothing but a number). For those of you who are brain dead, if my sister makes a thousand bucks and Exxon makes a billion, it doesn't matter. They are both going to pay a rate of 35%.
IT'S THE RATE, STUPID!
Once upon a time the conservative world view was that small business was the most important aspect of our nation. The mom and pop small business was the backbone of the nation. It still is. The reason "Big Oil" is not paying the same RATE as my sister is because they are getting breaks because they are "Big Oil" and are special. They buy advertising on Rush. They sponsor things. They can afford to buy politicians who can get them a lower tax rate or more deductions. Using my sister as an example, why the (sorry for the language) hell is "Big Oil" more important than she is. We are a Republic. Conservatives allegedly believe in the power of the one person. The individual matters. Let's put it another way, the individual corporation matters, not the small business person.
What a sham and a lie!
We are being lied to.
Republicans have a creed:
I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be uncommon.
If I can seek opportunity,
not security,
I want to take the calculated risk to dream
And build, to fail and to succeed.
I refused to barter incentive for dole.
I prefer the challenges of life to
guaranteed security,
the thrill of fulfillment
to the state of calm utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence,
nor my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any master,
save my God.
It is my heritage to stand erect,
proud and unafraid.
To think and act for myself,
enjoy the benefit of my creations;
to face the whole world
boldly and say, "I am a free American."

It's too bad our conservative multi-million dollar talk show pundits have forgotten what it is like go to out and sweat and suffer to make a buck and to keep a business going. They are celebs, quoting a Ronald Reagan who never existed. I think big business is wonderful. I think "Big Oil" is wonderful.
If Exxon wants to make a trillion bucks a year, I don't care, as long as they pay the same TAX RATE as my sister who will be lucky if she can stay open and not be forced to lay off about 20 people. Why? SHE DOESN'T GET A TAX BREAK! Neither should "Big Oil". It's not the rate, stupid, it's the deductions and the breaks afterward. Making every corporation, no matter what size pay the same RATE is what Republican is all about. It is very much an unequal playing field right now.
The big guys get all the breaks because they can afford to pay off the politicians. You get a handful of Republicans who are trying to put to rights the playing field so that smaller start up energy companies get the same opportunities and Rush and his minons go around screaming foul. Sorry guys, you are the ones who have the rank odor of stupidity and hypocricy.
Once upon a time small business was almost sacred. Even Rush worshipped it. Now, though, big business is sacred. I don't know why. Do you? By constantly backing the propensity to change the playing field so that the little guy doesn't get an even break, Rush, Hannity, Malkin, Ingraham, and all our precious little conservatives are destroying the very thing that make this country the greatest nation in the world. Big Business is no different than Big Government. They just throw money to conservatives and act a little differently. It's called corporate welfare. If you are going to be against welfare for abled bodied welfare moms, then you need to be against corporate welfare for able bodied corporate entities.
Too bad people like our conservative talking freaks don't know how the real world operates. Here in New Mexico we live under the manipulative shadow of Don Brewer, owner of Brewer Oil. We had a couple great Republicans in the State House and Senate who were trying to maybe make Brewer be less of a monopoly. He supplies oil and gas for most of New Mexico. He charges what he wants. His stations in Ruidoso sell gas a good 25-30 cents higher than they do in Alamo. Why? Because the tourists need gas. Doesn't matter how much those of us who live here complain. He's making piles of money. He doesn't need an additional tax deduction. People he is cheating and stealing those 25-30 cents need the break.
Too bad Rush doesn't live around here. Nah, he'd be smoozing with Brewer and standing up for him. Oh, those good politicians? Brewer paid for nasty campaigns against both. He batted 50% so he will have one less person opposing his monopoly here in New Mexico. He's a good conservative, good business practices.

THERE IS NO SPLIT
I do believe Rush and the likes are trying to promote a split between McCain and Lindsey. It isn't going to happen. To prove my point, John McCain, Political Genius, is sending Lindsey and Joe Lieberman to Georgia. The first thought that went through my is VP or Sec of State here - or both? (Works for me, but then I'm not a brain dead conservative who can't think without being programed by Rush Limbaugh and his handlers, and believe me, he has them.)
"..."The situation in Georgia remains fluid and dangerous. As soon as possible my colleagues senators Lieberman and Graham will be traveling to Georgia. They're both members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. I hope that other members of the Armed Services Committee in the Senate will go together."..."
THE REAL PROBLEMWe need to look at this one of two ways. Either Rush Limbaugh is such a jealous and petty individual that he must belittle Lindsey's success or someone is pulling his strings. I think it is the later, but I'm probably wrong. When Lindsey was doing what Rush wanted, he was the conservative darling of the western world. Now, since he is stepping out on his own and trying to be a STATESMAN (read someone who puts the health of the nation ahead of personal ambition) and that agenda is not something Rush and all the little conservative goose-steppers want it to be, then well, Lindsey Graham, like John McCain, is evil, therefore must be eleminated from the face of the earth. It's that simple.
How pathetically pathetic.
