Look, I'm prejudiced here. I'm a John McCain supporter. I don't give a rip about Barack Obama, and would never bother with him if he weren't running for POTUS. But let's be honest here. John McCain is cleaning his clock in the campaign ad department. Obama is now playing catch-up and is starting to look and sound like the spoiled, snot of an incompetent brat that he really is. Let's be honest about something else, it is beoming more and more apparent Obama is being proped by the MSM to the point where even Dem's don't particularily like them. If it weren't for Oprah's brain dead minions, Hillary would be the nominee and the GOP would be losing big time. I don't know about you, but if the reports are true that Oprah is responsible for a million votes, isn't there some sort of way celebs could be forced to reder restitution to the country when they manipulate their status the way Oprah has. The very least should be some sort of campaign funding problem.
"...Those data points were cross-referenced with the votes cast for Mr. Obama in various polling precincts. The results showed a correlation between magazine sales and the vote share obtained by Mr. Obama, and extrapolated an effect of 1,015,559 votes...The economists did not, however, look at how Ms. Winfrey’s endorsement of Mr. Obama may have affected her own popularity. A number of people — women in particular — were angry that Ms. Winfrey threw her first-ever political endorsement to a man rather than his female opponent...."
This woman's celeb status manipulated over ONE MILLION VOTES for Barack Obama. If were to simply say it's a buck a' vote, Obama is in her clutches for a minimum of a million dollars worth of free publicity. A few years ago when I was working with Lindsey's first primary campaign, that sort of thing was called "in kind" and we were limited to individual contributions of $2500 for the primary and another $2500 for the general election. My mother, father, and I ended up kicking in about $7500 in in-kind contributions for that specific election. Lindsey's campaign effort needed someone who could cater (my mother) and decorate events (your humble blogger).
The bottom line here is there is only so much an individual can do, legally, unless they go through a PAC or something. I don't know how effective it would be to press the Oprah issue because it could backfire. I do know, however, that McCain is driving Obama crazy with the "celeb" ads. I think it is something to push. Let's face it, Oprah OWNS Barack Obama. No one, Republican or Democrat should be so beholdin' to anyone.
FAN CLUB And now there is the new McCain ad "Fan Club. The fun part about this one is the fact that someone in the McCain crew has a sense of humor and knows their movies. Go into this clip from Independence Day about 7:10 into the clip. Then, watch the new McCain ad.
