SOME CONSERVATIVES JUST DON'T GET IT
REPUBLICANSWhen I hear conservatives wax poetic against John McCain, and some conservatives who swear up and down they are anti-abortion and yet plan to vote for Barack Obama (I'm related to at least one) I mention two words: Stevens & Ginsburg. If they aren't bright enough to figure out to whom I am referring, then there isn't much hope and they are true, clueless Barack Obama voters.
But - then there are the conservatives who do get it and are still determined to do everything in their power to insure an Obama victory by defaming John McCain when possible. These individuals are not Republicans. They are sore-headed conservatives who are going to vote for either Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin. A few are planning to vote for Obama "to teach the GOP a lesson" AS IF their individual vote is enough already yet to teach anyone a lesson. This is reality people, it's not a formula television show where Ben Cartwright rides in on his noble steed and saves the day by casting a vote to end the tie for the mayor's race. It doesn't work that way. Contrary to how narcissistic you are, you aren't that important.
There is no way you can even begin to make a difference in teaching the GOP a lesson unless you united with the Ron Paul bots, the out of control libertarians, and Chuck Baldwin's little KKK and neo-Nazi friends. Even then, you can only do just so much. You aren't teaching the GOP a lesson, you are showing what an abject ass (mascot of the Democratic party) you truly are.
Get it?
The real problem is Republicans need to get smart about Conservatives, Libertarians and Republicans. They fall for this myth that conservatives are honorable people – all of them. Unfortunately they are just people, good, bad, and ugly. The bad and ugly ones pretend to be something they aren’t, and suck in decent Republicans who aren’t bright enough to know the difference. Libertarians and Constitution Party members are just as much "the enemy" as are Democrats.
Somehow it is appropriate that Jessie Helms and Bozo the Clown (Larry Harmon) die during the same news cycle. While I know this will outrage conservatives, you do know I don’t give a rip. Let’s face it, Jessie Helms embodied all that went wrong with conservatives. During this age of conservative amnesia where Reagan is worshipped as a false god, Jessie Helms did his utmost to stonewall Reagan when ever possible. Not that today’s conservative will remember, but Helms was Reagan’s nemesis. He opposed Reagan. He embarrassed Reagan. He was a total ideologue, emotion without reason. He was my least favorite Republican. (Read John Fund’s commentary on Helms)
It is rather ironic today that conservatives have chosen to follow the of-times obnoxious path taken by Jessie Helms, partisan and cantankerous rather than the lofty, uplifting positive, reasonable conservative Republican life chose by Ronald Reagan.
Let’s be honest here, we’re living in a time where many conservatives embody the attributes of Bozo. They’re acting like a bunch of clowns. Let’s face it, the worst offender of the bunch seems to be Rush Limbaugh. Will someone tell Rush Limbaugh just because he has more money than god (Barack Obama) he has no right to constantly do his utmost to derail the McCain campaign.
In many ways people like Rush Limbaugh and his bunch of little friends like Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter, who doesn’t have the brains to vote in the correct Palm Beach County precinct, deserve everything they are going to get if Barack Obama is elected. We all know the first thing he and his jack-booted, goose-stepping little fascist-Marxist little freaks are going to do is enforce the ‘fairness doctrine” and basically shush Rush.
“…RUSH: … In fact, there's a story here in Politico.com from last night, and the headline: "McCain Game Plan Worries Insiders." When I saw that headline, I said, "Well, I will be fascinated about this." "Four months have passed since John McCain effectively captured the party nomination, and the insiders are getting restless. Top GOP officials, frustrated by what they view as inconsistent messaging, sluggish fundraising and an organization that is too slow to take shape, are growing increasingly uneasy about the direction of the McCain presidential campaign." Whoa. The insiders? The insiders are worried? Now? How long did it take 'em to catch us and get up to speed? This is laughable. The insiders are getting restless? The insiders got exactly what they wanted! The insiders have a candidate who's going to go out and appeal to Democrats and independents. That is exactly what they wanted!
Why are they upset? What do they expect? What did they expect? "While the practice of second-guessing presidential campaign decisions is a quadrennial routine, interviews with 16 Republican strategists and state party chairmen -- few of whom would agree to talk on the record -- reveal a striking level of discord and mounting criticism about the McCain operation. 'It's not just message or not having just one single meta-theme to compete with Obama,' said a veteran Republican strategist with close ties to McCain's top advisers. 'It's not just fundraising, which is mediocre. And it's not even just organization, which is [just] starting or nonexistent in many states.' 'McCain's campaign seems not to have a game plan. I don't see a consistent message,' said Ed Rollins, a veteran of Republican presidential campaigns. 'As someone who has run campaigns, this campaign is not running smoothly. But none of this matters if they get their act together.'" It's not running smoothly. Why is it not running smoothly? These insiders should pay a little more attention to what those of us who really care about winning these elections might have to say.
Let me put this in perspective for you. Some of you are going to get mad at me here, but it's early and if you want to explain why the insiders are mad and why there's no game plan here, why there's no organization, here you go. We know that Obama thinks of himself as a messiah. We know that he thinks that the power and the force of his personality will carry the day. The dirty little secret is that McCain has a little of that in him, too. He thinks not of himself as a messiah but just his existence, just his presence on the scene is enough. There doesn't have to be a whole lot of organization. In fact, we've discussed on this program before, you think McCain's going to have any GOP coattails? Does he seem interested in running around and helping House candidates either raise money, Senate candidates raise money, get reelected? There are some people who think that McCain has it in for the Republican Party and has had it in for the Republican Party since 2000. That would be tough to prove and tough to quantify….”

I was listening to a commentary the other day where someone mentioned a Barack Obama victory would benefit Rush much more than would a John McCain victory. Then there is the defeatest wing who may actually want an Obama victory. It would “cleanse” the GOP. Lord have Mercy! Evidently this is either a growing movement or they are just a bunch of nasty little brats who are determined to have their own way no matter who they hurt.
“…Four or eight years of a President Obama with a Democratic Congress ought to give Republicans some time to build an agenda around these time-tested ideas. Complete Democratic control is a troubling prospect, but it might be the quickest way to turn a rotting corpse into a living organism….”
If a certain group of conservative continue along their current course, they are going to hinder John McCain’s election. But then, I have a feeling that is their plan. John McCain is Rush Limbaugh’s worst nightmare. If McCain is elected Rush Limbaugh, for all his hundreds of millions, will have lost. I’m waiting for that day.
In many ways, good, well meaning Republicans who want only the very best for the GOP are the problem. They have basically been brainwashed into believing in the great, vast "conservative base" that is little more than a myth promoted by Rush Limbaugh and repeated by his little minions on talk radio. There may be a small minority of conservatives, but they are in no way a REPUBLICAN base. They are not Republican. They will vote Republican and hold their nose, but have no real loyality to the GOP.
It is time for good Republicans to stop pandering to this bunch of sore-headed cry babies who are nothing but brats and start playing to the real base. The problem is, moderate conservatives like your humble blogger have been demonized to the point where we are the enemy - and we are not. We are the BASE - the very real GOP base. You'd better realize it before this additional pandering to the great nasty conservative 'minority' continues.
AJ Strata continues the theme about certain conservatives believing the only way for the GOP to be "saved" is to fall on the sword of Obama and suffer abject defeat. If you want to know what total defeat is, just do a little historica research into the defeat of Carthage. That is the kind of defeat these conservatives are demanding the GOP suffer this year. Problem is, let's get down to the bottom line - these LIBERTARIAN and CONSTITUTION PARTY conservatives are terribly self-serving. A total GOP defeat benefits their third parties.
Unfortunately, no one has ever accused the GOP of being smart. Republicans continue to fall for this line - THE CONSERVATIVE BASE. They continue to campaign as conservatives instead of Republicans. It is a recipe for eventual disaster.
