The Pink Flamingo :: Just Another Jett Rink

I emailed one of The Pink Flamingo's readers earlier this evening that Obama is starting to believe his own press. When that happens, a person will soon be toast. The American people don't like arrogance or fakes. Barack Obama is a fake. Unfortunately he is getting 50% more media coverage than John McCain. When one considers how close the polls are, it makes you wonder how far ahead McCain would be if Obama were treated like McCain is being treated. Let's be honest here, the only reason Obama defeated Hillary is the fact that he ran a nasty smear campaign against her. Is that what he is planning for fall? Don't ever doubt it.

I've been trying to figure out who Barack Obama reminds me of, then this evening it dawned on me. Have you ever see the classic movie, Giant?

It stars Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and was James Dean's last film. Dean played a character called Jett Rink. A fascinating summery tells us:

"...The Benedict/Rink rivalry comes to a head when the Benedicts find Luz Jr. and Jett Rink have been dating. At a huge gala Jett organizes in his own honor, Jordy tries to fight him, after realizing he and his Mexican American wife, Juana (Elsa Cárdenas), were invited just so Jett's employees could turn Juana away. Bick then takes Jett to a kitchen room, about to fight him, but realizes that Jett is a shell of a man, who only has money. He tells him, "You're not even worth hitting...You're all through," and leaves. The party ends when Jett, completely drunk, slumps down in front of everyone before his big speech. Luz Jr. sees him afterwards, once everyone has left the ballroom, and discovers that he is a lonely wreck...."

Dean's character is someone who is so envious, so ambitious, and so empty of character that he can only deal with is empire for so long.

Once faced with someone who tells him "no" he goes to pieces, shattered.

I don't think there is a more appropriate description of Barack Obama unless we go back to a 1942 Tracy-Hepburn film called Keeper of the Flame.

"...Cukor's last project before his military service, Keeper of the Flame was his first and only film with an explicit political message. "The screen is a powerful factor for the expression of those ideals in which we believe and today are fighting for," Cukor said in one of his rare statements about film as propaganda. Keeper of the Flame was a suspense mystery that "also gives an opportunity to speak the truth of democracy and Americanism." Stewart, who had become very political during the War, stuffed the script with all kinds of anti-Fascist messages.

Tracy plays a journalist who sets out to write the biography of Robert Foster, a leader he admired. Refusing to cooperate, Foster's widow (Hepburn) puts obstacles in his path. As it turns out, she's trying to conceal the fact that her husband headed a vast secret organization that was going to turn the country over to Fascism. Made during a period of undercover Fascism in the U.S., Cukor filled the film with contemporary references, attacking the phenomenon of hero worship, the effects of leaders on youth, the funeral with Boy Scouts in attendance, official speeches patriotism...."

Barack Obama has become his own biggest fan. Charles Krauthammer wrote:

"...Americans are beginning to notice Obama's elevated opinion of himself. There's nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?..."

Like Medved says, he has become a cult leader.

"... To Obama’s true-believers, adding an Islamic middle name is a small price to pay for connecting with a candidate who qualifies as a “lightworker” and “an enlightened being,” according to San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford.

“Many spiritually advanced people I know,” he writes, “identify Obama as a Lightworker, the rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.” (Italics in the original)

Author Garen Thomas makes similar observations in “Yes We Can: A Biography of Barack Obama”, a newly published book for children. “There has emerged a new leader who seems to be granting Americans a renewed license to dream. Barack Obama has proven repeatedly that he can touch people from all genders,” (not just both of them, you’ll note, but all of ‘em), “political affiliations, and across racial divides. There are few times in your life when you have a real opportunity to alter the course of history and put civilization back on a course toward prosperity and unity for all races and genders.” All of them—again. “If you were to look at dates in your history books, you might see centuries pass before something remarkable and worth noting occurred, when one person or a group of people stood up for change, making an enlightened leap in the evolution of the human story.”..."

THE WEEKLY SMEAR
This week the smear is that Barack Obama is basically God.

He's the new messiah. He's the long awaited coming of pure BS. His election is for-told by the Stars (Hollywood). Sally Vee alerted me to the unauthorized biography of He Who Must Not Be Mocked at The People's Cube. If you are not familiar with The People's Cube, deal with it.

His father was a militant piano tuner from one of those African countries where they change the national boundaries every other week. His mother was a loan officer at the Oppressed Proletariat Bank and Trust Company where she spent her days rejecting loans to people who had little more to cling to than God and guns. His father, not finding a large number of militant pianos in the American Great Plains, left the fledgling family for places with more bellicose musical tastes, leaving young Steven and his mom to fight capitalism alone..."

None of this really matters, does it? I think one of the reasons I am not writing about Obama all that much is why bother? I have better things to write about, so why feed his ego? If I have a story, I'll post it, otherwise, there is a big world out there, and Obama may think he is god of all - hot snot on a china platter, but's he's just a (pardon the graphic language) cold you know what on a paper plate.
