The Pink Flamingo :: Getting Away With Murder in Pennsylvania

If Luis Ramirez were an illegal immigrant who was part of a party of wild animals who beat a father to death, you would be hearing about it from Malkin and cover to cover on O'Reilly. Unfortunately, Luis Ramirez, an illegal immigrant is the man who died. He was brutally attacked and beaten to death by a group of high school football players in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. They attacked him like a pack of wild animals, cursing him and telling him to to back to Mexico.

Evidently in Pennsylvania it is acceptable to murder illegal immigrants. According to the Republican Herald:

"...The 25-year-old illegal immigrant was beaten over the weekend after an argument with a group of youths, including at least some players on the town’s beloved high school football team, police said. Despite witness reports that the attackers yelled ethnic slurs, authorities say the beating wasn’t racially motivated. Hate crime or not, the killing has exposed long-simmering tensions in Shenandoah, a blue-collar town of 5,000 about 80 miles northwest of Philadelphia that has a growing number of Hispanic residents drawn by jobs in factories and farm fields. An investigation continues, and no charges have yet been filed, but police say as many as six teens were involved in the fight, which ended with Ramirez in convulsions and foaming at the mouth. He died early Monday of head injuries.

Crystal Dillman, the victim’s 24-year-old fiancee, who is white and grew up here, said Ramirez was often called derogatory names, including “dirty Mexican,” and told to return to his homeland. “People in this town are very racist toward Hispanic people. They think right away if you’re Mexican, you’re illegal, and you’re no good,” said Dillman, who has two young children by Ramirez and a 3-year-old who thought of him as her father. On Dillman’s fireplace mantel hangs a medallion of Jesus that Ramirez was wearing the night he was beaten. Ramirez had an imprint of the medallion on his chest, marking where an assailant stomped on him, she said.

Police Chief Matthew Nestor acknowledged there have been problems as the community — the birthplace of big band musicians Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and home of Mrs. T’s Pierogies — has tried to adjust to an influx of Hispanics, who now comprise as much as 10 percent of the population. Teenagers have sprayed racially tinged graffiti and yelled racial slurs at the newcomers, he said. “Things are definitely not the way they used to be even 10 years ago. Things have changed here radically,” Nestor said. “Some people could adapt to the changes and some just have a difficult time doing it. ... Yeah, there is tension at times. You can’t deny that.”..."

This crime was committed by a half dozen of the town's local high school football heroes. A retired cop even heard the racist remarks and the obscenities shouted at Rameriz.

"...Eileen Burke, a retired Philadelphia police officer who lives near the scene, said about the time of the beating she heard someone shouting “You tell all your Mexican friends to get out of town.” “We saw a bunch of kids walking away and screaming things like ... ‘Go back to Mexico.’ We called the police,” said Arielle Garcia, 17, a friend of Ramirez who was at the scene. Police said they are not commenting on the assailants’ motivation until interviews are complete. Six Shenandoah juveniles, five of whom are Shenandoah Valley High School students, were being interviewed, along with neighbors in the area and friends of the victim, according to Moyer...."

But, they were just boys being boys. They were local heroes. Rameriz was an illegal Mexican. He deserved to be murdered, right? Evidently in small town Pennsylvania, that's the way things work. There was nothing racial about it.

"...Retired Philadelphia police Officer Eileen Burke, who lives on the street where the fight occurred, told The Associated Press she heard a youth scream at one of Ramirez’s friends after the beating to tell her Mexican friends to get out of Shenandoah, “or you’re going to be laying next to him.”

Shenandoah Valley High School principal Phillip Andras said he knew little about the alleged involvement of any football players. A call by the AP to the athletic director was referred back to the principal.

But the players’ possible involvement has added to interest in the case. Football, along with the town’s many block parties and festivals, is a major attraction; home games typically draw thousands of fans.

Arielle Garcia and her husband, who were with Ramirez when he was beaten late Saturday, said they had dropped their friend off at a park but returned when he called to say he had gotten into a fight.

She saw someone kick Ramirez in the head, she said, and “that’s when he started shaking and foaming out of the mouth.”

The Garcias said they heard the youths call Ramirez “stupid Mexican” and an ethnic slur.

Burke, the former Philadelphia officer, said she saw shirtless youths swarming around Ramirez, called 911 and went outside, when she heard a youth yell obscenities and make the get-out-of-Shenandoah remark.

Despite the witness statements, Borough Manager Joseph Palubinsky said he doesn’t believe Ramirez’s ethnicity was what prompted the fight: “I have reason to know the kids who were involved, the families who were involved, and I’ve never known them to harbor this type of feeling.”..."

Instead of blaming the racist football players who murdered the young father of two, locals are blaming the media for stirring up problems.

"...O’Neill unlocked the police department to provide access to the incident log at the Shenandoah police station. The log did not contain reference to the beating, which Moyer said is the police department’s practice, and that a report will be written when charges have been filed.

Moyer said the case is complicated because a large number of people are involved. Further interviews were conducted Thursday, Moyer said, and the process is time-consuming because investigators are conducting follow-up interviews as they try to piece together conflicting accounts of the incident.

“It’s hard to get the truth on the first time,” Moyer said.

When a reporter initially asked to gain access to the incident log in the locked police station Thursday, borough Manager Joseph Palubinsky questioned why The REPUBLICAN & Herald wanted to see it.

“I think The REPUBLICAN has done enough damage already,” Palubinsky said. Palubinsky did not clarify his concern regarding reporter access to the log or how specifically the newspaper’s coverage of the high-profile homicide on a public street had been damaging...."

Instead of blaming the high school football players who murdered the man in cold blood, you should read some of the comments..."

In other words, this is like any other small town where the important people get away with murder, literally, and those who aren't important pay the price. If an Illegal immigrant had done the murder, it would be all over the news, but check out the story NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING.
TREATED LIKE A MONSTER
We now live in a nation where a pregnant woman, captured by ICE, goes into labor and is CHAINED to a hospital bed while giving birth. Then the baby AN AMERICAN CITIZEN BY BIRTH, is taken away from her. I guess law enforcement itself provides the signals. It is okay to murder Mexicans who are here illegally.

"... a Nashville woman, nine months pregnant was arrested, handcuffed, and thrown in jail for a week for not having a driver's license. However, the woman said it's because she is Hispanic. Juana Villegas's July 3rd traffic stop is launching a fire-storm of controversy. Her supporters want to know why an officer from Berry Hill took her to jail instead of simply writing a citation.
Berry Hill Police Department insists it followed procedure even if those on Villegas's side aren't convinced. Juana Villegas,33 is a wife and a mother of four, but she is also am illegal immigrant, lawbreaker., and according to her supporters, a victim....Gregg Ramos: "She should have received a simple, written citation instead of being physically arrested and brought down to the jail," said attorney ad advocate, Gregg Ramos.

Furthermore, Villegas was rushed to Metro General Hospital to deliver her child, but remained handcuffed up until two hours prior to delivery and six hours after. "When I was in bed, I was begging the sheriff, 'Please, let me free. At least one hand, because I wanted...' And he say, 'No.' He didn't want to," said Villegas. A spokeswoman for the sheriff confirmed Juana Villegas was deported and ordered to leave the country in 1996. So, in the eyes of jail staffers, Villegas was a "medium security" inmate, which required the inmate to be restrained in some way even if she was nine months pregnant. That spokeswoman added Villegas should have been released July 10th and automatically removed from the country. Instead she was surrendered to her family. The sheriff's department also said Villegas's jail stay was prolonged because of the 4th of July Holiday, and the obvious interruption of several days in the hospital...."

GILCHRIST DENOUNCES MINUTEMEN
There is a rancid aura of anti-Hispanic racism that is oozing throughout the nation, especially in "middle America. Hispanic leaders in North Carolina are now fearing for their safety. Things have such a boiling point that even Jim Gilchrist, founder of some of the minutemen, is concerned, he says.

"...When Jim Gilchrist headed to the U.S.-Mexico border three years ago to press for tougher immigration enforcement, he carried binoculars. Today, Gilchrist is worried that a few self-proclaimed patriots might be carrying a gun. After seeing online videos that encouraged border violence amid calls to crack down on illegal immigration, the 59-year-old Aliso Viejo resident said he feels responsible for what started out as a publicity campaign and has since fallen prey to internal divisions and to influence by people he believed had "Saddam Hussein mentalities."

"In retrospect, had I seen this, had I had a crystal ball to see what is going to happen… Am I happy? No," Gilchrist said in a phone conversation late last week. "Am I happy at the outcome of this whole movement? I am very, very sad, very disappointed."...ow, Gilchrist continues to run his group with a web site that carries his name. He has adopted a two-mile stretch of Route 133 under California's Adopt-A-Highway program, planning to pick up litter and keep the roadway clean in exchange for the right to a promotional sign.

His former collaborators, including Barbara Coe of the California Coalition of Immigration Reform, continue to lobby for immigration enforcement on their own. Coe said she hasn't seen Gilchrist at rallies or on the border for some time. Coe, an anti-illegal immigration activist since 1991, said she hasn't come across any instigators in her group. "Because that is rule number 1," she said. "You do not use inflammatory language and you never, never get violent – obviously, unless it is in the case of self-defense." Gilchrist readily admits the movement has splintered over the last year. He said he still has ties to about 20 Minuteman Project chapters around the country – but used to have more.

Sometimes, Gilchrist said he thinks about leaving the debate over illegal immigration and taking on a new issue like urban blight or tax reform. For now, he said he will continue to lobby for more border patrol agents but not from a perch on the border, watching for people trying to cross. "I have found, after four years in this movement (…) I very well may have been fighting for people with less character and less integrity than the 'open border fanatics' I have been fighting against," he said. "And that is a phenomenal indictment of something I have created."..."
