THURSDAY, JULY 31

Things around town are drying out, even though there is still a ban on using tap water for drinking.  No one knows when the local eateries can start serving water, tea, and coffee, let alone ice because the moronic Ruidoso News, the poorest excuse for a newspaper I've ever encountered, has yet to update their web site.  You'd think with a local crises they would use the gray matter between their shoulders and try serving the community for a change, but forget that.  The track will probably open on Saturday, but forget reading about it in that ...   more »

THE HISTORICAL ROOTS OF POPULATION CONTROL

ON of the great false-hoods of immigration reform is that it is a conservative entity.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  Instead of having roots in conservative thought, it stems, instead, directly from Marxism.  It is all about population control and eugenics, and is directly contrary to the very concept of the Republican Party.  Part I of this series deals with the evolution of the individual, the role of the value of the one, to the devalue of the individual through collectivism.  Through this collectivism came the modern liberal and through the modern ...   more »

WEDNESDAY, JULY 30
We began the game of Musical Kittens this morning around 5:30AM.  I caught Rumsfeld trying to "play" with the sand colored 'red'.  I picked her up and snuggled her.  She's a baby doll, but rather placid.  The other little red tabby is feisty, and did a lot of spitting at me when I picked her up.  Mommy Cat wanted them in the living room.  I locked Rumsfeld in the bedroom and helped Mommy Cat carry the babies up to the living room.  She went down for the little mottled calico while I was photographing the other two.  ...   more »

ENTERTAINMENT OR AN AGENDA?
This week Human Events is honoring Rush Limbaugh. Mark Levin has a Human Events column that can only be described as nothing but abject fawning, gushing, and outright worship.  I am fully aware of Limbaugh’s good points.  He is well known for his charitable work, and he donates a tremendous amount of money to very worth-while causes.  He is one of the single largest donors to leukemia research.  For that, I am personally grateful.  His donations may have been the tipping point in the medical research that is keeping my cousin Jim alive (and maybe even ...   more »

TUESDAY, JULY 29

If you listen to the news for very long, Lincoln County is all in ruin.  It's not. I have another flood story, but I'll wait until tomorrow.  Instead, let's discuss the Snowy River formation, near Fort Stanton, which is the world's longest cave system.  The cave was only recently discovered, or rather the outside world has only recently learned of the cave while it was being explored.  Unfortunately (or fortunately) it has been discovered that the cave is so big, it will take quite awhile to explore it.

WHICH ARE YOU?

Are you a Martha or a Mary?

Naturally we all want to be a Mary, because she's the goody-two-shoes (she was once a loose woman), but she was the one who would wax perfection at feet of Christ, never lifting her finger to help her sister Martha, who was trying to make everything perfect for Jesus when He visited Martha's home.  Mary would just sit there, simper and sigh.  She would get this radiant look on her face - don't you know the type?  Everyone would think she was the devout one, the goodly one, the perfect ...   more »

CONSERVATIVES HATE HIM?

When is a conservative not a Republican?  Are the one in the same?  Or....can they be completely different party animals?

I have an article over on Right Pundits that is basically an edited version of one I posted on The Pink Flamingo last week.  I am pointing it out simply because of the extreme way over the top comments by Ron Paul supporters who consider themselves the minion army of their savior, Ron Paul, who is going to be the GOP version of Barack Obama.  If only the extreme, very evil, and very stupid Republicans would dump ...   more »

MONDAY, JULY 28

Once again my blogging is basically limited to the events here in Ruidoso. I spent several hours around town taking more photographs.  I've taken nearly 300 or so.  Tomorrow The Pink Flamingo will be back with a tale of how the anti-immigration industry has conned good and decent conservatives out of their minds.

I've been hearing from friends all over the country.  How bad is it?  Are all the roads closed?  It must be terrible, with all that flooding.  How many people are homeless?  Is it safe to go out on the roads?  Let's try the answers ...   more »

THOSE WHO CAN LEAST AFFORD IT
One of the saddest aspects of this disaster is the fact that many of the people who can least afford to lose their homes and belongings have been some of the victims.  If you are driving on Meecham, toward Suddreth and look on your right, there are some very nice homes.  If you look to your left, there is a rather dowdy trailer park. These photos were taken today, mid-afternoon.  The water is still churning, still deadly.

We have a rather large homeless population here in the summer.  They have a tendency to live ...   more »

The Air National Guard has been working with the Red Cross as they rescue stranded campers up at Grindstone Lake. The person in the yellow shirt is one of the incredible Mescalero Smoke Jumpers who is working with search and rescue.  Around here, those guys are the real heroes, and are treated as such.  Many people here owe their lives and their homes to these brave men and women.

While these people were working, rescuing others, our tourists played on.  I found one location where kids were volunteering doing the sand bag thing.  Directly across the street ...   more »

SO MUCH FOR THAT NEW BRIDGE
The new bridge over the Rio Ruidoso had only been open a few months.  So much for it.  That specific low-lying area is always flooding.  If you know Ruidoso, you hang a right before you hit Walgreens, and head toward Hull or up the whole canyon to the ski area.  The damage here is near one of the little league fields.  The real problem though, was at an RV park next to the river.  The water came rushing in so fast that several of the residents had barely vacated their RV's when the propane ...   more »

SUNDAY, JULY 27

It has been a very rough day.  My wake-up call came around 7:30 with the parents calling to tell me they were evacuating "The Downs" was flooding and was being evacuated.  We had anywhere from 5 to 7 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.  I can't get a straight answer on the actual amount.  I was up quite late (or early) dealing with my leaking skylight.

EIGHT BRIDGES - GONE
These are the after-effects of nearly 5 inches of rain.  This is Eagle Drive, downtown.  If you are familiar with Ruidoso, Eagle Drive goes by the old firehouse, and up to Cree Meadows.   The bridges are out at Cree.  You can't even get back in there.  The 2nd bridge is out at Upper Canyon.  If you follow the photos, one of my best friends lives at the top of the hill. Her 84 year old mother was flooded out.  Alicia had to get the fire department to help her with her mother.  She is now staying ...   more »

RACE TRACK FLOODED!

The world famous race track at Ruidoso Downs is underwater - somewhat.  The river is over-flowing into the far lane of the track which is washing away, but the blessed casino is open! Last night we had a good 4 inches of rain.  The dam up on the Mescalero Reservation (Inn of the Mountain Gods) is over-flowing into the Rio Ruidoso, which is not a good thing.  When I went by the track it looked like they were evacuating the horses.  They say the Rio Ruidoso is now 6 to 10 feet over crest. THEY WILL NEVER LEARN!

How long is it going to take for Republicans to figure out that they are REPUBLICANS FIRST and conservatives second?  Let's face it, the reason the GOP looks so bad and the reasons our candidates have been on this wonderful losing spree is because they were so darn busy pandering to hard line non Republican conservatives.  There are any number of special interests out there who are conservative.  I'm a "normal" conservative, but I am a Republican first.  Maybe that's the term we need "normal" conservative as opposed to Reagan Revisionist Conservatives who wax poetic about ...   more »

DISLOYAL COWARDS ALL

There are nearly a dozen candidates for the US Senate (some incumbents) have decided it might be better for their careers and election chances if they basically thumb their nose at the Republican Party that sustains them.  They are considering not attending the GOP convention in Minneapolis.  Evidently they are so terrified of the "Republican" brand that they are quaking in their boots about being identified as Republicans.  It leads to the question:  Why the H-E-Double-tooth-pick are they even running as Republicans?  Why not just follow Bob Barr and don't let the door hit you in the ...   more »

A KITTEN UPDATE:  Mommy Cat brought the little ones out today for me to see.  They were born on July 6th or so, which means they are nearly 3 weeks old.  For babies that age, they are a very good size, and look rather healthy (for a change).  One of the two little red/white ones is already walking!  The little gray one is NOT a rat!  She is a very pretty mottled gray calico and could have long hair. WHAT GIFT GIVING SAYS ABOUT YOU?

It is true confession time.  While you may think I am this horrible "B_T_H", when it comes to gift giving, I am a total push-over.  I'll be honest.  I love giving presents.  Nothing to me is more enjoyable than shopping for the perfect gift for someone, then presenting it in a perfectly wrapped package.  It probably doesn't amount to much in this crazy mixed up world of ours, but to me it is a momentary sigh for a person.  It is just a quickie little thing that says, "Someone thinks you are important."
