THURSDAY THIRTEEN
Thirteen Reasons Why Sherrill Milnes Is THE Greatest Baritone – Ever

I have a dirty little secret.  I love opera.  I am an opera freak, fanatic, fan, groupie, abject witch-with-a-b about my music.  A true opera fan is very eclectic with their music, and enjoys most kinds of music.  My exceptions are country, folk, hip-hop, "Christian" and rap.  I love beautiful, lofty "Christian" music that is traditional, choral, vocal, and done extremely well.  Okay, I'm a music snob - a snot actually.  I love reggae, my oldies, and quite a bit of international, but don't shove country music down my throat.  Don't make me listen to this modern "Christian" stuff.  Give me Bach, Beethoven, Verdi, Wagner, and John Williams any day of the week.  Yes, I said Star War's John Williams.  One day he will be considered one of the greatest composers ever.

So sit back and enjoy my man.  There's nothing like a baritone or a good base.  Those are the men. Their voices are deep and incredible.  Milnes sends shivers up the spine.  A large man, he looks more like a baseball player than an opera singer.  He re-defined what an opera singer looked like - with his movie-star good looks and sense of the theatrical.  Once upon a time, he even dubbed the "Malboro Man" commercials.  Now retired, he spends his time teaching young and future opera singers.  I miss him.

I am a Sherrill Milnes groupie.  I have followed him from one end of the country to another. Once upon a time I had season tickets to the Metropolitan Opera - 2nd Row.  I saw him do some incredible roles. He has retired.  And I miss seeing him!
