The Pink Flamingo :: Voters, Trends, and What Could Happen? Introduction

A four part series on a few theories about the coming election are located below. It did not start out that way, but that’s how I’ve posted it. I am throwing in a number of trackbacks in the introduction. Some may belong elsewhere in the article.

It is possible we are seeing some major changes in not only the GOP, but the Democratic Party. We could also be seeing changes in the Libertarian and Constitution Parties. Frankly, I don’t think the latter parties have enough members to make a difference, but there are some conservatives who truly belong there instead of the GOP.

Or will things go back to normal around mid-November if not before then? How much is hype?

First, Tom Tancredo has given up and is officially endorsing John McCain. Is this a sign of the times, a sign that even Tancredo does not want Obama winning, or something even more sinister. Are we approaching the conservative apocalypse? Is it possible that the end is near? If this Townhall column by Maggie Gallagher is any indication, they’re just about on their last legs, completely out of ideas, goals, agenda, and maybe even their own morality. One reason is the fact that they won. Many of their ideas have been made reality. The second is the fact that they are the victims of their own success.

Everyone and their step-brother want to run “conservative” to the point where the word is worthless, bankrupt, both morally and intellectually. Conservatives have become their own worst enemies. When a group reaches the point where there is no room for contrary ideas. All ideas and individuals who are not “pure” must be silenced and ridiculed to the point where they simply melt into the wood work. In many ways there is nothing worse than success. They started believing all the hype. They started acting like they were “god”. They forgot humility, honesty, decency, and basic human kindness. They have become sniveling cowards, pandering for votes, afraid of their shadow or a constituent phone call.

Or – as I have been saying for quite some time, the conservatives who make the most noise, cause the most trouble, and get all the attention are not even Republicans.

There has been much talk about this year being one of re-alignment for both political parties. So far we have learned that the ultra liberal wing of the Democratic Party is less than 25%. It appears, to me that the ultra conservative wing of the GOP is maybe 10%. If this is the case, then the conservative base is nothing but a myth and a gleam in Rush Limbaugh’s eyes. There is no conservative base in the GOP, at least not the base that is being used to hammer Republicans into taking positions (out of pure cowardice) that are constantly getting them defeated. I truly hope we are reaching the point where conservatives become so dispirited they splinter as a “group” and stop listening to the multi-millionaire talking radio heads and start thinking for themselves.
