THURSDAY, MAY 8

First up, Glenn Chang is graduating from New Mexico State on Saturday! Congrats to he and his wonderful parents. Glenn was telling me one of his classes was using The Pink Flamingo as part of their discussions. He said everyone in the class but he and one other person were liberals. It's not what they say about you, but that they are talking about you!
My blogging is “lite” today. I managed to sleep (a little). This is getting funny now. I’m just not quite sure what a person must do to get a decent night’s sleep. We’re talking two weeks come Saturday since I had a real night’s sleep. I’ve reached the point where I’m just not quite sure what is going to happen next. I felt so bad today I even forgot to take Rumsfeld to the Poodle Parlor!
My friend Josie had a blow-out for herself tonight. It was a huge crush. The pile of birthday tribute she received was quite impressive, with vino being the gift of choice. I’d say she took in at least two cases of when when all the bottles are collected! A bunch of us ended up going next door to the Great Wall, where we stayed until my mother started getting extremely tired. We went back to Josie’s to see what was left after the party. It was nearly 10:30 by the time I arrived home – thus not much in the way of posting tonight.
Land of Enchantment has another Only in New Mexico (why is it always UFO’s?) (it actually happened in Colorado)
Did you hear the one about the sinkhole devouring Texas?
Clean air is destroying the Amazon rainforest!
John Glenn says the shuttle needs to keep on keeping on!
50 Etruscan tombs have been discovered!

Is worthy of a passing note as the first institutor of the modern system of police. He was a man of high family and no small personal merit, and when he took the position of lieutenant of the Parisian police, in 1697, he was considered as somewhat degrading himself. He contrived, however, to raise the office to his own level, by the improvements which he introduced, resulting in that system of easy and noiseless movement which not only checks ordinary breaches of the law, but assists so notably in preserving the government from its enemies. Argenson was a native of Venice, and received his first honours in that republic; it was probably from the old secret practices of the Venetian state that he derived his idea of an improved police for Paris, that form of police which has since been extended to Austria, Prussia, and other governments. He finally became the French minister of finance, and died a member of the Academy.
