The Pink Flamingo :: The Wit and Wisdom of Barack Obama

This is my tribute to Barack Obama. It is a heart-felt piece honoring his apparent victory over Hillary Clinton. I hope it is taken as I intended – as abject sarcasm and farce. I threw in the Jerome Hines piece because it sounded so good! Let’s be honest here. I apologize for not being as bright as Barack Obama.

He is a genius. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.

I did not know we had 58 states until he told us we did.

There is some controversy here. One well informed source thinks there is 59. He reports to me that he has another scholar that feels Barack Obama was intending for there to be 60 states.

I think what makes me so angry is the fiasco he is making of our remarkable heritage. He doesn’t give a rip. He doesn’t care. It means nothing to him. If it did, he would not make so many mistakes. I had intended th is post to be funny, but it really isn’t. The real problem – no one cares. They are so busy with his rhetoric, they don’t care.

IMMIGRATION REFORM
Then there’s the one about calling Rush Limbaugh and Lou Dobbs Xenophobic. I can see throwing that epitaph at Lou Dobbs, but not Rush Limbaugh. I’ve called Rush Limbaugh a lot of things, but never Xenophobic. (Oricus)

A PROBLEM OF LINGUISTICS
Then there was the time the Obamassiah did not know the language spoken in Afghanistan, even though he is the chairman of the oversight subcommittee on Afghanistan.

“…Obama posited -- incorrectly -- that Arabic translators deployed in Iraq are needed in Afghanistan -- forgetting, momentarily, that Afghans don't speak Arabic.   "We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then its harder for us to use them in Afghanistan," Obama said.   The vast majority of military translators in both war zones are drawn from the local population. Naturally they speak the local language. In Iraq, that's Arabic or Kurdish. In Afghanistan, it's any of a half dozen other languages -- including Pashtu, Dari, and Farsi.  No sooner did Obama realize his mistake -- and correct himself -- but he immediately made another.  "We need agricultural specialists in Afghanistan, people who can help them develop other crops than heroin poppies, because the drug trade in Afghanistan is what is driving and financing these terrorist networks. So we need agricultural specialists," he said.   So far, so good.

"But if we are sending them to Baghdad, they're not in Afghanistan," Obama said.  Iraq has many problems, but encouraging farmers to grow food instead of opium poppies isn't one of them. In Iraq, oil fields not poppy fields are a major source of U.S. technical assistance.   There are other infrastructure problems both countries share that U.S. advisors have struggled to address -- a lack of safe roads, schools, adequate electricity, etc. -- but Obama did not mention these….”

TECHNOLOGICALLY IGNORANT

“…• Obama told Larry King on CNN -- asked about that anti-Hillary Rodham Clinton YouTube ad, a doctored version of a spot created for Apple computers -- "We don't have the technical capacity to create something like that.. Obama did not know what he was talking about. Any professional media consultant can manipulate images on video. Turns out the creator -- unmasked last week as a political operative who worked for a firm overseeing the technical side of Obama's Web site -- made it at home on a Mac….”

The Obamassiah then tried to cover his gaff by making a remark about his ears. Sorry, but when they carve your face in Mt. Rushmore, it will resemble another American icon – Alfred A. Newman.

THE UNCLE WHO LIBERATED AUSCHWITZ

Reporters noted Mr. Obama’s revised claim, that it was his great uncle who helped liberate Buchenwald. They largely downplayed the error. Yet in another, earlier gaffe back in 2002, Mr. Obama claimed his grandfather knew U.S. troops who liberated Auschwitz and Treblinka – even though only Russian troops entered those concentration camps. That hardly disqualifies Mr. Obama from being president. But you can bet that if Hillary Clinton had done the same thing it would have been the focus of much more attention, especially after her Bosnia sniper-fire fib. That’s because gaffes are often blown up or downplayed based on whether or not they further a story line the media has attached to a politician….”
