WHY I HAVE ONLY ONE PINK FLAMINGO POST TODAY
Regular readers of The Pink Flamingo are probably familiar with the ongoing, and quite tragic, story about my friend Chris and her children, two of which are my godchildren.   Earlier this afternoon I discovered that “J” had earned a spot to attend a specific youth revival in CA this weekend.  She needed about $90 for the week.  Naturally you know who gave her $150.  (She needed money for some ‘stuff’).

Maybe 30 minutes later I told my mother what I did.   Her bright idea – the poor child needed clothes.  Since “J” is leaving on Thursday, you know who was elected.  I called Chris, told her what we were doing.  “J’s” Big Sister dropped her off at Wallyworld.

Do you know how much you can buy for a 15 year old teen in Wallyworld? Under fifteen bucks?

I was exhausted.  By the time I took the kid home (with her ill gotten loot) and visited with her mother for a minute, then arrived back home it was nearly 8PM!  

Oh, I forgot, she’s never been on a trip before!  She’d never had travel sizes – so we had to do those.  I added sunblock, benedryl spray, and a small first aid kit.  She needed a little make-up case.  

The child has nothing.  This is the first time in her life that she has a wardrobe that is completely matching.  We used shades of turquoise, orange, madras, and khaki.  Everything matches and co-ordinates! There had to be at least 25 wallyworld bags!  

I don’t know when I’ve had so much fun.  The deal was that was Christmas, Birthday, Easter, Valentines day…you name it.  She had friends shopping while we were there – they were all coming over to see what she was getting.  

There is no way she had as much fun as I did.  When I went to write the check, I made her leave so she would not see how much I spent.

There’s nothing like doing something like this for someone.  Isn’t that what it’s all about?
