IT’S A WARDROBE THING

“Guess what? You and Hillary wore the very same jacket yesterday.”
“I did not.”
“There was a clip of her on FOX. She was wearing that same peachy colored jacket you wore yesterday.”
First, my mother is NOT voting for Hillary. Not to worry. She is still voting for John McCain.
I think it’s a St. John Thing. My mother has been wearing St. John Knits since the company began in 1962. When the first collection was introduced the prices were right in step with the times. She could buy an entire outfit for about $100 or so, which was quite expensive. She began wearing the knits in earnest in the early 1980’s and hasn’t stopped.
My mother has a difficult time finding clothes (psychologically – I tell her). She has had so many abdominal surgeries that anything tight on her stomach can be extremely painful at times. Annoyingly, she also has this bee up her bonnet that she does not look good in dresses. I have a feeling this commentary could quickly degrade into a daughter’s myriad of complaints about a very strong minded mother who refuses to take care of herself! She has a very serious cardiac problem. We’re now going to be doing even more tests. Three years ago this month her heart stopped – twice. Prayer is a wonderful thing. Yikes – I forgot the 12% bone density and her increasingly chronic osteoporosis.
These physical problems have lead her straight to St. John Knits. They are (according to her) very comfortable. They are very light weight. She can’t have tolerate anything pulling on the spot in her chest where they inserted the pace-maker. She can’t handle anything tight on her stomach, but wants to wear something decent. She can’t handle anything heavy on her back or shoulders.
She likes to travel. A St. John Knit can be rolled up and shoved into a bag. They don’t wrinkle. They are easily dry-cleaned. They have a host of accessories. The company puts out a limited number of colors each year. They keep their same colors. Things my mother bought 20 years ago still work. They put out a number of pieces with each color.
My mother loves her St. John Knits. We have been known to taunt her – about her constant wearing of black. So, last fall she purchased some additional colors. This spring she did the same thing.
Much to her dismay – Hillary Clinton is wearing the very same thing! They could be Twins!
Hillary has been criticized for her dull taste in clothing. In Europe they’ve made fun of her. Various sources here are making fun of her. Every time it occurs, my life-long Republican mother cringes. When Hillary’s wardrobe is assaulted, her wardrobe is assaulted. She has become one of Hillary’s biggest defenders. This is rather amusing, considering she has been one of Hillary’s biggest critics over the years.
So we have come full circle. Just remember, when you criticize Hillary Clinton’s wardrobe, you are insulting my mother’s taste. (And you don’t know how funny this is).
I have a feeling Hillary Clinton is also wearing Stuart Weitzman on her little tootsies. Why? It’s an American company. They are also some of the finest shoes made today. Yea, my mother wears them.
So I mentioned to my mother that I was going to write about she and Hillary and their wardrobe. She said she had a hunch Hillary probably wore Stuart Weitzmans.
Why?
Both companies represent some of the finest apparel products made in this country.
The punch line?
Hillary Clinton has taken care to wear American made designer togs – and no one has noticed. I've not noticed her handbag choice. She usually doesn't carry one. There will be one - and it will be American made. We have some wonderful upscale designers in this country. Trust me.
The other thing that annoys my mother is when they complain about Hillary wearing pants all the time. Have you noticed all the climbing up on platforms, stages, ups and downs? Pants are much more comfortable. It levels the playing field. You also don't need to worry about your dress blowing up over your head if there is some catastrophic ill wind!
