CONSERVATIVE NOT REPUBLICAN
For months I've been telling you that there are certain conservatives who are no more Republican than Barack Obama is.  Mark Levin just proved me correct.  This is the WORST piece of you know what I've ever heard.  This needs to end - now.  Right now I am absolutely furious.  I don't know when I have been so angry.  We are dealing with people who are so warped that they do not comprehend they have destroyed the "brand" they once embraced.  Maybe Mark Levin needs to go back and read the Contract with America.  Not once in the whole document is the word "Conservative" used.  Not one time. Just put Mark Levin in the same column as the other suicide bomber conservatives.  He is more concerned about HIS agenda than he is the fate of the nation.  Yes, I am angry.

From Hot Air:

This is the single worst thing I've heard in a long time. It will make you ill.  How someone like this has any viability is beyond my comprehension.  He is basically advocating destroying the GOP.  He is advocating John McCain's defeat and the victory of Barack Obama.  I'm sorry, this is absurd.  It is insane.  To me, it is almost evil.

While Mark Levin is doing the Henny Penny thing and crying about the sky falling, Big Lizards has uncovered the real reason Tom Cole lost.  As usual, it wasn't the GOP - but a very flawed candidate - a very flawed conservative candidate.

The problem is people like Mark Levin, who are so far right conservative that they are completely out of step with reality are destroying the GOP.  They are not Republican.  Why not take their little game and go play with the new (loser) Conservative Party.  They are killing us.

Their immigration policy is killing the GOP.
"...Well, I have a theory, and it is that Americans are basically pro-immigrant but ambivalent about it. This ambivalence is reflected in polls, which of course provide different results based on how questions are asked. For example, last year a CBS News poll asked, "Should illegal immigrants be prosecuted and deported or shouldn't they?" And 69% of respondents favored deportation. When the same interviewers asked the same respondents what should happen to illegal immigrants who have lived and worked in the U.S. for at least two years, and then offered a specific alternative to deportation, only 33% favored deportation; 62% said they should be given a chance to keep their jobs and eventually apply for legal status. When a separate Gallup poll asked a similar question but offered four alternatives, just 13% favored deportation, and 78% said illegal immigrants should be allowed to keep their jobs and apply for citizenship...."

People like Mark Levin are completely out of step with average Americans.

I think tonight I have reached the point of no return.  I think it is time for conservatives to take their nasty little blame game and go somewhere else and let the GOP get back to business.  They have corrupted the party to the point where we can no longer win. They are destructive, vicious, and completely out of step with regular Americans.

I think today's WSJ has the right idea.  Quit blaming President Bush.  Don't blame Iraq.  Quit blaming John McCain. The Republicans in the House are moral idiots.  People like Mark Levin aren't helping things.
"...Democrats won with 54% of the vote in a district that a Republican won with 66% in 2006 and that President Bush carried in 2004 by 25 points. It was the GOP's third special election loss this year, and it has Democrats predicting that November will be another rout of 2006 proportions. Oklahoma's Tom Cole, who runs the National Republican Congressional Committee, captured the GOP reaction when he declared that "There is no district that is safe for Republican candidates."

This is the lesson Republicans should have learned in 2006, but the Members preferred to blame their failure on President Bush and Iraq. House Republicans pooh-poohed their own earmarking scandals, spending excesses and overall wallowing in the Beltway status quo. Rather than rethink their habits, they re-elected the same party leaders and even kept Jerry Lewis as their chief Appropriator. Congressman John Shadegg of Arizona is right when he says that "Since the 2006 elections, Republicans have done absolutely nothing to redefine themselves. We can't even get behind an earmark moratorium bill."

They've also been content to replay their same losing political attack strategy. In 2006, they thought they could save their majority by donning a Nancy Pelosi fright wig and shouting "liberal, liberal, liberal." This year they're wearing a Barack Obama mask, and that isn't working either.

In the Mississippi race, the national GOP tried to link Democratic candidate Travis Childers to Barack Obama and Reverend Jeremiah Wright. One TV ad declared: "Travis Childers: He took Obama's endorsement over our conservative values." But Mr. Childers was well known as a cultural conservative who favors gun rights and opposes abortion. In a year when Americans are mad as hell, such a negative attack strategy merely reminds voters that Republicans have run out of ideas...."

As Earl Capps, a South Carolina blogger has so aptly put it today,
"...If the GOP wants to challenge the soft paternalism offered by the Democrats, the British conservative experience may well offer points worth considering. As polling suggests voters are increasingly turned off by the "tough party for tough times" image that is often associated with contemporary American conservatives, a softer and more nuanced message may help lure them back into the GOP column before they become, as voters did for a half-century following the Great Depression, lost to the Democrats for two more generations...."
maybe conservatives here in the US need to change - to evolve.  They are obsolete - dinosaurs, incompetent, corrupt, and just plain nasty. It is time for people like Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Laura Ingraham to either evolve or go extinct.  If not, the GOP is going to be doomed.  Unfortunately, I am afraid this is exactly what they want.  It is obvious their brand of conservative is a total and complete failure.  It is also obvious their brand of conservative is not Ronald Reagan's conservative.

The problem is they just don't get it .  Doug Ross is proposing the same old - same old - losing propositions.  It sounds good on the surface, but NOTHING IS NEW.
"...STRENGTHEN NATIONAL DEFENSE - increase the size, capability and efficiency of our Armed Forces, bringing back our defense spending to historical levels as percentage of GDP.

GAIN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE - open up ANWR and the OCS to exploration; aggressively pursue nuclear energy and green technologies; and incent private industry to aggressively pursue clean, renewable energy sources.

SECURE THE BORDERS - build physical barriers immediately as a precursor to an overarching, sensible immigration policy. If the boat's sinking, you plug the holes first.

DEATH TO EARMARKS - zero tolerance for earmarks.

DEATH TO CORRUPTION - zero tolerance for corruption.

ENGLISH AS NATIONAL LANGUAGE - national unity requires a national language. That language is English.

IMPLEMENT FLAT TAX OR FAIR TAX - simplify the tax system by eradicating a tax code gone mad.

REDUCE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT - provide "whistleblower-style" awards for reducing the size of government and task the IRS (which will no longer have to worry about enforcing the tax code) with achieving the reduction goals on an annual basis

SPUR HEALTHCARE COMPETITION - Address health-care deficiencies - with competitive, free-market solutions, not Government largesse.

ADDRESS ENTITLEMENTS - engage a bipartisan consortium to create a multi-million dollar competition to incent teams from private industry and academia to create solutions for our social security and Medicare liabilities...."

This is all very nice.  I agree with 80% of it.  But - we've been there and tried to do this - it doesn't work.  It cannot work until we realize that the world has changed.  People have changed.  Hard-line conservative is an idea that has come, failed, and now needs to be gone with the wind.

Seriously, the platform isn't the problem - the people are.  The GOP needs to be vetting its candidates.  They need to shut the frak up about conservative values and concentrate on REPUBLICAN Values.

REPUBLICAN PRINCIPLES

I am a Republican Because...

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.

I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government….”

Just go back to this and you can't lose.
