ARE CONSERVATIVES BETRAYING MCCAIN?

John McCain betrayed conservatives yesterday when he caved to the dastardly theology of "Global Warming".  Or did he?  He addressed the problems of global climate change, which even the most conservative of thinkers acknowledges is occurring.    Anyone who follows science news knows something is happening out there.  Frankly, I go with the theory that humans aren't important enough in the great scheme of things to completely disrupt the planet unless they blow it up with a bunch of nukes.  I don't see a Death Star anywhere, so until the Grand Moff Tarkin comes around with the Death Star I don't think we need to worry about that.  We do, though, need to concern ourselves with the out of control polluters of China and those emerging countries.  China has polluted its rivers to the point where they are lost - completely lost.

There is nothing wrong with not polluting the planet. Even I agree with that.  There is nothing wrong with regulating greenhouse gases. There is something going on with our climate. Our climate has changed.  Like my mother said South Florida would get so cold it was miserable.  They would keep a fire going 24 hours a day.  They say where I now live in New Mexico would have several feet of snow a year.  We've had very little in the past 4 or 5 years.  Any idiot knows something is going on - but it isn't man made.  Read John McCain's speech. He never mentions that it is man-made, only that the world seems to be getting warmer and we need to deal with it.

Believe it or not, climates wax and wan over the centuries.  During the "Biblical" Roman times, the world's climate was several degrees warmer than it is now.  It was a golden age of civilization. There are theories that one reason Rome ceased to flourish in from about 450AD onward is because the world wide climate suddenly grew much colder. (535-536 AD) This is known as the Age of Arthur. It was a time of plague, death and the beginning of the "Dark Ages".   It was also known as La Morte d'Arthur - the Death of Arthur.  My personal theory is that, along with a volcanic eruption, there was some sort of extra-planetary event that occurred in the northern part of the British Isles.
"...The 536 event and ensuing famine has been suggested as an explanation for the Dark Age fact that Scandinavian elites sacrificed large amounts of gold at the end of the Migration Period, possibly to appease the angry gods and get the sunlight back. The decline of Teotihuacán, a city in Mesoamerica comparable in power to ancient Rome,is also correlated with the droughts related to the climate changes, with signs of civil unrest and famines. David Keys' book speculates that the climate changes may have contributed to various developments, such as the emergence of the Plague of Justinian, the decline of the Avars, the migration of Mongolian tribes towards the West, the end of the Persian empire, the rise of Islam and the fall of Teotihuacán. In 2000, a 3BM Television production (for WNET and Channel Four) capitalized upon Key's book. This documentary, under the name Catastrophe! How the World Changed, was broadcast in the U.S. as part of PBS's Secrets of the Dead series. However, Keys and Wohletz' ideas are not widely accepted at this point...."

The planet began warming around the 1200's, ushering in the first wave of the Renaissance. Renaissance Europe was much warmer than the post-Roman period.

But - in North America, the cooling of the planet brought the development of civilization in the Southwest and in South America.  The warming phase that heralded the Renaissance ushered in some very serious drought in the Southwest.

Why?

It's the sun, stupid.

I think one of the problems is the infantile study of climatology.  It is still way too new.  They study recorded climate.  Historians study history - we are smarter, have more resources, and because we know history we are not doomed to repeat it.  A good historian now must know how to study a heck of a lot besides history.  It gives us a better perspective of the world.  The thing that bugs me the most about climatology is the fact that they never bother with geology, which gives you a completely different version of the world.

Global Warming idiots forget that there are other forces afoot that influence climate.  There is this theory that global warming is going to bring about volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and doomsday but that is a crock.  Earthquakes are caused by the movement of tectonic plates.  Volcanoes are caused by the movement of magma under the earth's crust. One single massive volcanic eruption can completely disrupt the world's climate.  In 1815 Tambora erupted with such a force that it caused the global temperature to drop enough to push the planet into starvation.  About 75,000 years ago Toba erupted, pushing humanity to the brink of extinction.  The supervolcano that is Yellowstone is "due" to erupt.  When it does, we will go the way of humanity at the time of Toba.

Then there is the El Nino & La Nina Cycles. We are currently going through the last gasp of a very strong La Nina.
"...There was a strong La Niña episode during 1988-1989. La Niña also formed in 1995, and in 1999-2000. The last La Niña was a minor one, and occurred 2000-2001. Currently, there is a moderate La Niña, which began developing in mid-2007. NOAA confirmed that a moderate La Niña developed in their November El Niño/Southern Oscillation Diagnostic Discussion, and that it will likely continue into 2008. According to NOAA, "Expected La Niña impacts during November – January include a continuation of above-average precipitation over Indonesia and below-average precipitation over the central equatorial Pacific. For the contiguous United States, potential impacts include above average precipitation in the Northern Rockies, Northern California, and in southern and eastern regions of the Pacific Northwest. Below-average precipitation is expected across the southern tier, particularly in the southwestern and southeastern states. "[9] In March 2008, La Niña caused a drop in sea surface temperatures over Southeast Asia by an amount of 2°C. It also caused heavy rains over Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. ..."

Why is climate study so important?  Currently we are dealing with a very strong LaNina.  Farmers in the Mid-west have yet to be able to plant their grain crops.  We are currently dealing with very serious corn shortages and the beginnings of some starvation in third world countries. Are you familiar with the story of Joseph?  We need someone who can read climate change like Joseph and a leader with the wisdom of Amenhotep III, who was willing to take a chance on a Hebrew slave. (But then that's a whole 'nuther story).

If we knew a La Nina was coming, someone who was using "climate change" could maybe realize that the emphasis on bio-fuels in a La Nina year could lead to third world starvation because of the shortage of grain crops.

I think John McCain may have an idea whose time has come.   I don't see anything wrong with this, either.
"...Wind is a clean and predictable source of energy, and about as renewable as anything on earth. Along with solar power, fuel-cell technology, cleaner burning fuels and other new energy sources, wind power will bring America closer to energy independence. Our economy depends upon clean and affordable alternatives to fossil fuels, and so, in many ways, does our security. A large share of the world's oil reserves is controlled by foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart. And as our reliance on oil passes away, their power will vanish with it...."

I think anyone building a new house ought to use as many "eco" products as possible.  I'm determined that my parents are going to utilize wind-power, solar power, and anything else we can build into their new home.  If you do it from the beginning, it is affordable. I think wind power is amazing.

Let's face it.  There are certain conservatives who detest John McCain.  They are never going to like him.  They aren't going to vote for him.  They are going to do everything they possibly can to make sure he loses the election. They pretend to be "Republican" to influence our more cowardly office holders and candidates, but they aren't.  It's time we get a little bit smart and put these people in their places and go on with our lives.   And then there are the multi-millionaire talking head radio show hosts like Sean Hannity who are no more a Republican than Hillary Clinton is.   These NON-REPUBLICAN conservatives are having a fit.  Naturally we're going to be hearing a lot of do-do about them being the GOP base, but that's a crock.

I suggest you read McCain's speech before you start criticizing it.
Political Mafioso has an interesting re-cap of the speech and "normal" reaction to it.

Pajama Pack is the voice of reason.  There IS a conservative pile-on against John McCain.  I think it is distasteful the way conservatives expect the man to pander to them, expecting 100% loyalty from him, but  they reserve the right to betray him at a moment's notice.  Frankly, I don't want to vote for a POTUS candidate who is so very weak he/she must pander to ANY group, liberal, conservative, or moderate.  I want someone who has the courage to stand up for what he/she believes.  I don't want someone who sways and cowers with fear every time Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Ann Coulter says boo. Let's face the fact that John McCain is the far right pandering conservatives worst enemy.  He is Rush Limbaugh's worst enemy.  He is Sean Hannity's worst enemy.  He is Ann Coulter's worst enemy.  He wins - they lose their grip on the "Republican" base. And  -   it's about time this happens.
