FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILD
I can’t help contrasting the actions of my friend Chris and the mothers from that breakaway LDS cult. (Prairie Pundit has a good commentary) I have a real problem with a new trend in “conservative” blogs to complain about the police actions against this cult (Say Anything Blog)
On Easter Sunday Chris discovered that her 14 year old daughter ® had been molested by her father for a period of at least 3 years. Chris called the cops and told them to come pick him up or she was going to kill him. They arrived en masse. He confessed on tape almost immediately.
Yesterday he did a plea - life. They did 22 counts of molestation. (have all the evidence) He must still do the formal sentencing in a few months. If he does not take the deal, the DA has 240 counts and 3 additional women he has molested as children. All have given evidence against him, including his brother.
I finally confronted Chris today about her financial situation, which is bleak. She has lost her husband's income, and is limited to something like $400 a month (I'm not sure all the right #'s) social security. She will be getting about $200 more a month when she faxes them his arrest records, etc. She gets about $240 or so for food assistance.
Her nest egg was used up on insurance for her old van. She's trying to sell her soon to be ex's power tools and all his equipment. That will provide some income.
Her house payment is about $350
Her gas is about $150 or so - due on the 22nd(?) or they will cut it off.
She needs about $80 so they won't turn off her water.
She is also going to need money for her electricity.
There's no way they can make ends meet on $240 for food.
I'm in the process of rounding up people to help her. Your prayers are needed and appreciated. She and her children have a long healing process ahead of them.
I am so impressed with the way the cops and the DA have handled this - very impressed. I did not think they had it in 'em. I will now quit complaining about them. They have been professional and have done everything “by the book”.

Then I contrast my friend to the mothers from that break-away LDS polygamist cult. The women who claim to be “mothers” don’t seem to understand that their daughters have been molested. They don’t seem to care about it. They just want their life back. My friend’s actions have cost the family their livelihood. Her husband is now going to prison for the rest of his life. Her children aren’t happy that she put their father in prison. She can’t make her house payment. Because of a severe back injury years ago she cannot work, being a virtual invalid herself.
BUT – she risked it all to protect her children. The woman who have been rescued from a life of servitude and sexual slavery appear to want to go back to that life, and to send their innocent daughters back to it.
Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
