ATTACKING BIG MAC

Look, just color me cynical.  I’m worried.  Things are WAY too good for John McCain right now.  If this were October, I would be a very happy person.  Unfortunately this is March.  What goes up must come down, unless…. Something like this occurs:  Condi may be interested in the VP spot.

The Phoenix from Phoenix?   Unfortunately it is too early and there are too many anti-McCain conservatives and way too many NON REPUBLICAN anti-immigration nativists who will do just about anything to throw a monkey wrench into the machinery.

I TOLD YOU SO

Last night I warned that something is up trying to attack Big Mac on Immigration reform.  I TOLD YOU SO.  We hear from Allahpundit today, and yes, they are attacking him. I have a feeling the Dems could use the issue as a wedge between Big Mac and the more irrational members of the “conservative base”.  The problem is these people aren’t going to vote for him anyway, so what’s the deal.  The danger is the fact – and I know they will do so – that John Tanton will manipulate his nativist army to go after McCain.  It’s coming.  Yep, Dan Stein is attacking Big Mac – same story, so it comes from ON HIGH.
The story is coming out of “Blue Ridge Now
“…U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler says he believes Republican presidential candidate John McCain blocked his immigration bill from getting a vote on the U.S. House floor. McCain's staff denies it. The Waynesville Democrat spoke to the Rotary Club of Hendersonville on Tuesday. He said the Republican leadership tried to bring the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act to the House floor. They used a provision of House rules called a discharge petition, in which a simple majority can bring to the floor a bill that is stuck in committee. The petition had 181 of the 217 signatures needed to force a vote on the bill. "It was going great until McCain blocked it," Shuler said. McCain, a U.S. senator from Arizona, called Republicans in Congress and asked them not to sign the petition, Shuler said. He said after McCain's intervention, Republicans in the House were less willing to sign onto the bill. "We've really slowed down in the last week in Washington," Shuler said. A spokesman for McCain denied any involvement, saying the senator has neither taken a position on the SAVE Act nor tried to block anyone from signing it.

SAVE Act

The SAVE Act is in a strange position. Republicans want to force a vote on the bill, trying to show they are tough on immigration. The bill increases border security and requires employers to verify the residency status of new employees….”

Mark Kirkorian, John Tanton’s FAIR flunkie is also slamming Big Mac over on NRO.  Ace of Spades is hyper-ventilating over the issue and is ready not to vote.  LORD HAVE MERCY!  I guess we have another case of  a decent person turning Suicide Bomber Conservative.  There is more to this election than immigration.  What is wrong with these people?  Are that that blind and that filled with hate?  Are they so stupid they don’t understand we are dealing with a war on drugs on the border and their demands for strong enforcement and all these petty ICE raids are detracting from the real problem?  So Ace of Spades is going to believe a Waynesville Democrat who is barely holding on to a district that is probably the most racist in North Carolina. This is the real red-neck mountain section of North Carolina. Get it?  They don’t like Blacks.  They don’t like Jews.  They don’t like Catholics.  So, why the heck would they like Hispanics?

This part of North Carolina was so bigoted my father could not allow his Black delivery truck drivers up into that region.  They were threatened many times.  If he did not have a white driver available he would ride along with his Black driver to make sure they were not bullied, attacked, or harmed.  Oh yea, let’s tell the truth here.

So, my dear anti-immigration conservatives, if you want to fall in with some terribly bigoted areas of the country and believe a lying democrat over John McCain, be my guest!

NOTE:  I checked with my father to make sure I was correct.  He was telling me there was a certain area in that specific Congressional district where they threatened to murder any Black person who stepped foot in their town. He told me a few other horror stories, mostly about the old timers.  Like he said, few are left. He said the people in that area were not very nice to these people.  He told me a story about the people who owned the house he and my mother purchased and remodeled.  He said the owner hired a black farm hand.  That night the KKK came and scared him so bad he disappeared.

So, this is the district represented by Heath Schuler.

Whistler at Say Anything Blog has also fallen for this tripe.  He’s saying McCain had BETTER set the record straight.  Just who is Whistler to demand John McCain say anything?

The Minutemen protest Big Mac in Newport Beach.    I can’t wait for these yahoos to run afoul of the Secret Service!

Big Mac attacks Obama over his attacks!

In Monday's Political Diary John Fund wrote:
“…As Gallup reports, only 59% of Democrats who back Hillary Clinton say they would vote for Mr. Obama against Mr. McCain; 28% of these Clinton supporters say they would cross the aisle to vote for Mr. McCain. Should Ms. Clinton be the nominee, 73% of Mr. Obama's supporters would back her in the fall while 19% would plump for Mr. McCain. No one expects the number of defectors to be that large come November, after months of efforts by Democrats to restore party unity. In Gallup's historical final pre-election polls from 1992 to 2004, 10% or fewer of Republicans and Democrats typically vote for the other party's presidential nominee. However, as Gallup also reports: "When almost 3 out of 10 Clinton supporters say they would vote for McCain over Obama, it suggests that divisions are running deep within the Democratic Party." Expect the Gallup result to be a major talking point for Team Clinton in its upcoming conversations with superdelegates….”

GWB isn’t going to be an albatross around Big Mac’s neck.  I think I’ve been telling you the amount of Bush hating has been greatly exaggerated.

Fred Barnes has an interesting Weekly Standard post, calling John McCain the luckiest man in the race.  I don’t know if it is luck.  Maybe it is, but I think there is more at work here.
“…John McCain is one lucky fellow. Of course you can make your own luck, as the saying goes. That's what McCain did with great courage to survive five-and-a-half years at the Hanoi Hilton. And he made his own luck again by advocating a surge of troops in Iraq that later proved to be successful. In winning the Republican presidential nomination, however, McCain has mostly been just plain lucky, no thanks to his own fortitude or foresight. Conservatives inadvertently aided him by failing to line up behind a single rival. Mike Huckabee ruined Mitt Romney's strategy by beating him in Iowa. And Rudy Giuliani helped by pulling out of New Hampshire and fading in Florida, allowing McCain to sneak ahead and win primaries in both states. Now Democrats are boosting McCain's chances of winning the presidency by prolonging the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination. "They are eating their own," says Dick Morris, the onetime adviser to the Clintons. The result, for the moment anyway, is..”

As if to prove Barnes correct, Flap has news that if the election were held this week, John McCain would basically paint the map red!    The only chance today – for the Dems to win is with Hillary. FlapI guess this puts new perspective to the Obama campaign’s bullying.

LJ at Race42008 has a column “It’s Like Christmas Everyday”

I do not want to be the voice of doom and gloom.  It is to early – way to early, to be planning the Inauguration. We have something like 7½  months to go.  ANYTHING can happen.  If this were the middle of October I’d be so darn happy… but it is March.

MCCAIN’S MINISTER

Sally Vee sent
me a link, then I also have mis-appropriated this one from the ARRA News Service, also. Bill contrasts a profile of John McCain’s minister, Dan Yeary,  to that of Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright.

THE MAC BLOGETTE
You need to read Megan McCain’s March 27 entery about her dad’s speech yesterday.  Sally Vee pointed it out to me.
