THURSDAY THIRTEEN
THIRTEEN GREAT MOVIE SCENES
The Pink Flamingo’s 65th Edition Thursday Thirteen

They may not be the greatest movie scenes, but they are great - and they are favorites of mine.  Also they are the scenes I could locate on YouTube.  Okay, there are more than 13 scenes.  I can't pick.  Let's face the fact that we could do a whole TT just on Casablanca!  You may also want to notice how often Humphrey Bogart appears in this list.  The AFI did a list of the top 100 great movie quotes (or something like that) and Bogey had more than anyone. You may also notice the presence of Cary Grant on the list.  He was my VERY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE STAR!  There was no one like Cary Grant.

1.  CASABLANCA
The French National Anthem scene is always  one of the most stirring scenes in all of movie history.  Years ago I saw Casablanca at the now defunct Silver Screen in Atlanta.  When this scene ended people stood and cheered.  The 2nd clip could be the greatest scene in movie history.

2.  GIANT
I can’t find a clip, but the scene is in the Trailer – where Jett Rink strikes oil. If you have not seen this movie, you are missing one of the greatest films, ever.  The scene I want, is where James Dean announces  his new wealth.  (I gotta take an evening off and watch this masterpiece again).

3.  TO HAVE AND TO HAVE NOT
This one doesn’t need an explanation.  If you've never seen it, you are an ignorant  wretch and culturally illiterate.  Sorry, but the truth hurts.

4.  THE PHILADELPHIA STORY
Arguably this is the greatest movie ever made.  My mother thinks it is.  I would probably put it at number three, right behind Field of Dreams and Giant.

5.  BRINGING UP BABY
I think this is simply the funniest movie ever made.  Watch it alone.  You will embarrass yourself laughing.

6. BEN HUR
I think this may be the most perfect scene in all of movie history.  I was looking for the shipwreck scene, where Charlton Heston proved (sigh) oh my gosh how absolutely perfect his bod was.  He makes today's fake hotties look like shrimps.  The second clip has just a touch of how good that man looked in this movie.

7.  SINGING IN THE RAIN
I think this is the happiest scene ever.  Watch it and tell me you don’t sing along.  BUT the 2nd clip is my favorite - and my favorite 'hoofer'.  It also reflects my basic philosophy in life.

8. THE SEARCHERS
Arguably the greatest closing scene in movie history.

9.  GONE WITH THE WIND

10.  THE BIG SLEEP
I just like this scene.  It proves just what a leading man Bogey was.

11.  THE QUIET MAN
So the Duke was less than gentle, but what a scene!  If you want my opinion, men could take a few lessons here with this scene. The Duke was a man's man (and I'm not talking gay).  We need a heck of a lot more of men like that today.  I think our society would be much better off if we did have more of 'em!

12.  SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
Howard Keel (sigh) is sigh – well, if you’ve not seen this movie, you need to.

13.  THE  ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD
This is colorized, and I do not approve of colorized old movies.
