HE JUST ISN’T PERFECT
I’ve been telling you there is a certain group of conservatives who are making a heck of a lot of noise about not supporting John McCain. They are also making a heck of a lot of trouble for the GOP. I’ve also been telling you for two years that these folks have nothing to do with the GOP and are part of the Constitution Party. This is very serious. I think this is the reason we lost the House and the Senate in 2006. If John McCain were to lose in November, I would lay the blame directly on their doorstep. I also think they are manipulating the whole immigration issue, making it look like a Republican issue, when the majority of Republicans are not hard-line like this. We’re dealing with wolves in sheep’s clothing here. The sooner decent Republicans know what they are up against, the easier to combat it. Frankly, I think people like Chuck Baldwin are a greater problem than the libertarians. I have this bad feeling the two are going to merge forces one of these days. When that happens, we could be in deep you know what.I know I sound like a broken record. I know I annoy good decent conservatives when I go after "conservatives". The people below, Santorum, Chuck Baldwin, Alan Keyes, these are the conservatives I am furious with. They are manipulating the whole "conservative issue" making problems for the GOP with a completely ulterior motive. They aren't interested in building the GOP, they are interested in destroying it so they can build up the Constitution Party. That's what it is all about. It isn't about conservative Republicans - it is about the conservative message being perverted by people like Howard Phillips who talk a good GOP game, and worship at the false altar of Reagan, but are being very dishonest about it all. They have changed the conversation, pulling decent conservatives away from the GOP with their talk of Reagan and strong conservative values, when they are simply pandering to their own party.
Wake up and small the expresso.
These are the manipulators. They are the ones pushing immigration reform. They are the ones terrorizing cowardly Republicans in the House and Senate. They are not Republicans. They are part of the Constitution Party. They have an agenda and it isn't GOP.
SANTORUM ATTACKS BIG MAC
Once again Rick Santorum is attacking Big Mac, who just isn’t perfect enough for Santorum. Now while we must put up with Santorum’s self-righteous ideological pandering, we need to remember McCain campaigned for him, once upon a time. Santorum is also another of those “loser” conservatives who evidently don’t want any other Republican to win, thus proving they are all a bunch of conservative losers.
“…I attended the Council for National Policy meeting last week in New Orleans and listened to John McCain address the who's who of Hillary Rodham Clinton's vast right-wing conspiracy. It was another chance for McCain to, in his words, "not just unite, but reignite the base." How did the crowd think he did? Let's just say it's hard to ignite anything with cold water and no fire. He talked about two legs of the Republican stool - spending/taxes and national security. But the third leg - social issues - went unmentioned. When questioned, he failed to connect with the people who care as much about why you vote the way you do as about how you vote. The vast majority of the people at the meeting and in the conservative movement will vote for McCain. I will. But will the people who make up the backbone of the get-out-the vote effort go to work for him? Only if he demonstrates that his vaunted pragmatism and open-mindedness will lead him to different positions on some issues. Consider immigration and the extension of the Bush tax cuts. McCain says he "got the message." He's accepted the political reality of the need to secure our borders first and not increase people's taxes in a slow economy. That's great, but these conservatives are less interested in conversions based on politics than in decisions based on sound policy….”
Conservatives like Santorum just don’t seem to get the fact tha immigration is one huge loser for the GOP. What will it take?
CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVES
I don’t know if you are familiar with Chuck Baldwin. He is a leading light of the Constitution Party, which I assume is the new home of Alan Keyes. Howard Phillips, who claims absolute loyalty to Ronald Reagan (which is an outright lie) is now the head of the party. They were very much behind the GOP loss of the House and Senate in 2006. I consider them outright dangerous to the GOP because they lack the courage of their convictions to come out of the closet so to speak. They skulk around calling themselves “conservative” and pretending to be Republicans on a number of the radio talk shows. I also think that many of the hard-line anti-immigration people are actually Constitution Party people instead of the GOP. They pretend to be GOP on the subject, literally terrorizing cowering Republicans
Chuck Baldwin
“…Most conservatives--even Christian conservatives--have embraced philosophies and ideals that are antithetical to genuine conservatism. In fact, my experience with these people leads me to the conclusion that today's conservatives do not even know what true conservatism is--or was.
For example, I could not tell you how many times I have listened as speaker after speaker praised and promoted the candidacy of the "conservative" John McCain. These are the same people, mind you, that in 2004 properly identified McCain as the conservative phony that he was--and still is. Many of the same conservative organizations that rejected and repudiated McCain's 2004 candidacy now boldly extol its virtues. But it is not John McCain that has changed: it is today's conservatives.
The reason for this reversal of "convictions" is that this time John McCain is the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee. And if today's conservatives believe in anything, they believe in the Republican Party. They might turn their backs on their best friends; they might forsake their pastor and church; they might even divorce their wife or husband; but, one thing they will not do is forsake the Republican Party. This rabid devotion to the GOP has made mincemeat out of a once-great movement.
Of course, there are modern-day prophets. Men such as Alan Keyes, Judge Roy Moore, and Ron Paul, for example. For the most part, however, America's conservatives--including Christian conservatives--have dismissed these "voices in the wilderness" with either utter contempt or wholesale indifference. These prophets are about as welcome as an outbreak of influenza.
Even as a pastor, I am not immune to the odious attitudes and actions of Christian brethren. I have seen people I thought were my closest friends--people I have helped in untold ways--turn and walk away, without so much as a goodbye. I have watched as my own dear wife and children have been subjected to insults, tongue-lashings, and even obscene gestures by these "loving" Christian brothers and sisters. I have witnessed my preacher brethren refuse to even "reason together" over the omnipresent threats to our liberty and independence.
The beginning of the end came when Christian conservatives began idolizing President George W. Bush. They have done this to the point that they have come to accept just about any and all abuses against the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration principles, and even our very way of life. Furthermore, they have become robotic foot soldiers for universal and everlasting war. At the same time, however, they see no harm in the decimation of individual liberties, as long as it is a Republican who is stealing them. But these same Christians will cry and wail--to the point of almost cutting themselves--against the thought of a Democrat doing the same thing. But, pray tell me, since when does it matter what the brand name is on the tyrant's sword? Are not our liberties just as dead?
But look at how our modern prophets have been treated. Alan Keyes has been forcibly removed from debate platforms, only to be released in remote, crime infested neighborhoods at night by Republican Party operatives. Roy Moore was lampooned and utterly destroyed by Republican Party operatives (including those within George W. Bush's White House) in his attempt to become Alabama's governor. And, in his recent Presidential campaign, Ron Paul has been subjected to the most insidious attacks by Republican Party operatives that I have ever witnessed.
Regardless of how the Republican Party has compromised, capitulated, and castrated genuine conservative principles, conservatives--including Christian conservatives--continue to refer to the GOP as "God's Own Party," and other such nonsense. In fact, the current lapdog performance of modern conservatives to the candidacy of John McCain demonstrates just how far down the road of destruction they will go in order to grovel before the Republican Party…."
