CONSERVATIVES NEED TO BEHAVE THEMSELVES
Fortunately the Sun has set on the 4th Sunday in Lent so I can no longer use profanity.  I wish, though I could.  I think this WPost op-ed from Brent Bozell is THE LAST STRAW.  That’s it.  I give up.  Let’s not even have an election.  Let’s just give it to the Dems and roll over to play dead.  That’s what Bozell is proposing.  I just want to know, who the H-E-Double Toothpick died and made him God?

I don’t understand what is wrong with these people.  They are beyond belief.  Don’t today’s precious conservatives comprehend they are not all of the GOP.  They really aren’t even the “base” unless you are using the derogatory version of the word.  Bozell wrote the following proving he hasn’t been listening to John McCain.  I think McCain has already done much of this.  But – because he is John McCain, it will never, ever be enough.  Frankly, I’ve had enough already yet of these people.

“…This is what conservatives call on him to do:
McCain must present a strategy to defeat the threat of radical Islam. He needs to call on the United States to rebuild its military infrastructure, so devastated by the Clinton administration. He should secure our borders by a date certain. In every great struggle, the citizenry -- everyone, not just the country's military -- has been challenged to participate. McCain could make this the clarion call for volunteerism, for national service. If McCain believes in freedom, he should promise to take the yoke off the American taxpayer. He has embraced making the Bush tax cuts permanent. Good. Now he should pledge to end the estate tax and lower the corporate tax rate to 25 percent. In fact, he should call for an overhaul of the tax system. The flat tax or the fair tax -- either is preferable to the monstrosity that is the Internal Revenue Service. The federal government is out of control. Conservatives don't want to hear talk about "reining in the growth of government." Those are empty words. McCain needs to call for the elimination of entire sectors of the federal leviathan. He should pledge to turn back to the states that which is their responsibility and which comes under their authority. We want to see how he will deregulate the private sector and how he will once again unleash the economic might of the United States. He should champion private retirement accounts and health savings accounts….”

MacsMind picks up the Bozell piece and concludes with:
“…McCain has said he is the one to unite the party, but the fact of the matter is that without the conservative core he will not win. Quite frankly we are tired of the moderates and independents (whom we brought to the party eons ago) calling us party poopers and telling us to suck it up. Nope, not going to happen. We brought the GOP to prominence and success in over the last 25 years, compromise and becoming “liberal-lite” brought it down and nothing else. Moderates are found of telling us that we aim to purge the party, and they are right about that. It’s only a matter of time, and it might take four years or eight years of Obama or Hillary to do it then so be it. It won’t matter to many moderates and independents, they’re just go the way that is popular, they always do.The simple fact is that we don’t need moderates and independents, they need us. We know what we believe and don’t compromise what we believe just to be “popular and accepted”. They have no idea what they believe and believe only half of what they know.If McCain doesn’t get the message from this, then I hope he has a long and fruitful period of retirement when he can think of what could have been….”

How long is this going to last?  Frankly, a few conservatives are starting to act like spoiled brats.  If this bothers you, then you are a part of the problem and may need an attitude adjustment.

HOW BAD IS IT?
The Electoral Map has done some number’s crunching with the latest Survey USA’s polling numbers.  If you go by those numbers, it is positively grim.    These are registered voters (not likely voters) and evidently are not weighted by party, and is a robo call.  Survey USA is giving Obama the benefit of the vote in MI and VA, where I think McCain could take it.  600 registered voters in each state were contacted.   Quite honestly, I don’t see those New Mexico numbers holding.  I’ve been playing with the McCain-Hillary match up:  Looking at the numbers within the 4% margin of error, I could see us taking HI – 4; MN – 10; NM – 5 giving McCain 19 more votes and subtracting 19 from Hillary.  I also cannot see Hillary winning Florida.  I think McCain could be competitive in CA, also.

The McCain Obama Map
I think McCain is in play in CA – 44; CO-9; and very much in NM – 5 if this is the case we could be looking at much different numbers.  The, if we take the margin of error numbers: MI – 17; NV -5; NH-4; ND – 3; and VA – 13 that’s something like 42 votes, which could make the final total much different that when Survey USA envisions.

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM
As usual AJ Strata beat me to the punch line.  Instead of reposting all exacting data, just read what he wrote.    Hastert’s seat is now going to a Dem.  From what I gather, the GOP candidate, Jim Oberweis was a hard-line anti-immigration proponent, once again proving IMMIGRATION IS A LOSING ISSUE FOR THE GOP!
Strata also writes the following – which is chilling:
“…Reader Vince tells me frustrated ‘true conservatives didn’t get their person so they stayed home and helped elect a Democrat. And people wonder why ‘true conservatives’ are not considered reliable, credible or honorable political allies? So the purists will risk everything to get their way. OK - as long they are in the minority and without a voice at the table they can pretend that plan is working to their hearts content….”

UPDATE:  Thanks to SV – I hear Jim Oberweis, hard line anti-immigration loser, is going to attempt another grab at Hastert’s seat.  Will they ever learn?

OHIO
As far as Ohio is concerned, we have a serious problem there.  I happen to think the GOP brand is so tarnished in Ohio that anyone with an “R” beside the name is going to have problems. I think spinning this as a bad GOP PROBLEM may not be quite accurate.   We need to face the fact that the GOP may have plain old lost Ohio.  There’s the adage about Ohio and GOP’s being elected to the White House.  Right now I just don’t see how we hold it.

It’s too bad ideologue conservatives don’t understand they only lose elections, not win them.  We need good, strong practical conservatives who know what pragmatic is.  They are the ones who win elections, not out of touch ideologues.

QUIT DICTATING TERMS
Harold Hutchison at Called As Seen gets it right when he says that  conservatives like Kevin James
need to quit dictating terms to John McCain.

“For the next six months, John McCain will be the most powerful Senator on Capitol Hill. Maverick no more, McCain should seize his newfound stature within “the world’s greatest deliberative body” to take five steps necessary to convince Americans that he has finally learned his lesson about our nation’s dangerously porous borders. If McCain is serious about border security (he recently called the “virtual” fence in Arizona a “disaster”), here’s a short list of things McCain can do NOW to prove that he is truly willing to work with us. (McCain will never be one of us when it comes to the illegal alien invasion of this country, but, as I used to tell my clients when I was practicing law, “Half a loaf is better than none at all.”)…”

Polipundit is the perfect example of the worst of blogging conservatives with this little ditty.  Harold Hutchison at Called As Seen points out a few more.  AJ Strata really hits conservatives with this posting.   He is citing Jeffrey Bell’s disgusting Weekly Standard hit on GWB. With friends like this, who needs Democrats? Junk Science is disgusted because Ken Mehlman is joining the campaign.

A MINI RANT
You may simply want to ignore this one due to my current state of exhaustion, having driven home from Tombstone this evening.  What is wrong with these people?  THEY LOST  Their version of "conservative" has been rejected by the GOP.  Yes, we are still conservative, but we are not EXTREME conservative.  We are normal conservative.  We were the ones who supported Ronald Reagan when ideologue conservatives deserted him and demanded he not run for re-election.  We are going to be here supporting John McCain.  The ideologues can go do what they want, have their own nasty way and make everyone hate them.  It really doesn't matter. We need to start courting the Reagan Democrats.  THAT'S how you elect a GOP POTUS.  Get it?

May I suggest conservatives grow up and get over themselves?
