ROWAN WILLIAMS STEPS IN IT – AGAIN!
I find it a but amusing that the "blog world" is suddenly discovering what we Episcopalians have known for ages. The current Archbishop of Canterbury is an abjectly incompetent fool. This isn't the first time we've been subjected to his idiocy. It is the first time the "conservative" blog world has taken notice that the man is a dangerous idiot. For months those of us who have chosen to remain Episcopalian have been treated a bit like we are liberal morons for not rebelling against those vile (and sometimes gay) Episcopal bishops and go along with the more conservative Anglican Communion. Now you know why.
It is Lent and I am not advocating violence, but where’s Henry II when we need him? Rowan Williams is a disgrace and should be removed as the Archbishop of Canterbury!

The full transcript of the interview. (It’s worse)
“…CL Is part of the challenge that Sharia is regarded as it is? For example the European Court of Human rights says quite simply that it's view is that Islam, is that Sharia is incompatible with democracy and therefore it would be very difficult to see it incorporated in any meaningful way? ABC That's a pretty sweeping judgement and again I think it seems to me to suggest that the court is regarding Sharia as a single fixed entity and a great many Muslim jurists would now say that this is not how you need to see it; case by case within an overall framework of the principles laid down in the Quran and the Hadith. So I think there is a real question about how the discourse of human rights relates to traditional idioms of Islamic law; a real discussion, and there's a lot of literature about that, but I don't think we should instantly spring to the conclusion that the whole of that world of jurisprudence and practice is somehow monstrously incompatible with human rights simply because it doesn't immediately fit with how we understand it, and as I said earlier, it's not something that's absolutely peculiar to Islam. We have orthodox Jewish courts operating in this country legally and in a regulated way because there are modes of dispute resolution and customary provisions which apply there in the light of Talmud. It's not a new problem, not to mention the issues as I mentioned earlier the questions about how the consciences of Catholics Anglicans and others who have difficulty over issues like abortion are accommodated within the Law; so the whole idea that there are perfectly proper ways in which the law of the land pays respect to custom and community; that's already there….”
Gordon Brown shows a little backbone.
“…The Prime Minister rapidly distanced himself from Dr Williams's view. Gordon Brown's spokesman said: "Our general position is that sharia law cannot be used as a justification for committing breaches of English law, nor should the principles of sharia law be included in a civil court for resolving contractual disputes. "The Prime Minister believes British law should apply in this country, based on British values."Dr Williams's words opened a chasm over Islam between senior leaders of the Church of England, who are already trying to deal with an Anglican war over gay rights which broke out after he was appointed archbishop. The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, is facing death threats following his warning last month about Muslim "no-go areas" in Britain. And the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, who has been fiercely critical of Muslim extremists, said last year that "the imposition of sharia law, Britain as a Muslim society - that will never happen"….”
Captain Ed
“…It's not the first time a member of the clergy has suggested appeasement and surrender for a strategy against expansion of radical Islam. The endorsement of these strategies by the leader of the Anglican Church is especially disheartening, however. That the leader of a worldwide sect of Christianity thinks of shari'a as "inevitable" should prompt questions about his fitness for that office....”
A MINI RANT
Captain Ed is right about questioning Rowan Williams’ fitness for office over this most recent incident, but he’s just now realizing what much of the Anglican Communion has known for the past year or so. This man is completely incompetent.
The thing that truly bothers me is the way Williams has allowed the African bishops of the Anglican communion to completely manipulate him. They have a basic acceptance of Sharia and the traditional witchcraft practices in Africa that has seen the murder of uncounted numbers of innocent people. But they have absolutely no tolerance for one little gay bishop over here in the US to the point where they are basically trying to destroy the ECUSA. I know our Presiding Bishop is a little on the Spong side of liberal, and happens to be a woman, but at least WE aren’t endorsing Sharia. It’s too bad we can’t denounce the Anglicans the way they denounce us.
Imagine, destroying the Episcopal church because Gene Robinson is gay, and then approving the use of Sharia in the UK. Something is wrong with this picture, and it isn’t the ECUSA. I think those ill-advised “Anglicanized” Episcopalians who went along with the manipulations of the African bishops and have basically split a number of congregations and Diocese apart ought to be a little ashamed of themselves right about now. It’s okay to damn the gay bishop but not okay to criticize abject barbarism.
I know Henry II was wrong, but still, can’t someone rid us of this loathsome prelate before he becomes a danger not only to himself but the rest of the Anglican Communion. The man is grossly incompetent. I just hope any Episcopalian who is considering withdrawal from the ECUSA and joining this yahoo’s manipulations will think twice.
They say he and Gordon Brown are still ‘buds’. Lord help us all, and I mean that one. The irony here is the fact that Thomas a Becket the troublesome priest who met a bitter end disobeyed the crown by refusing to obey the law of the land, that church law was above the “Crown” and above the civil law of England. What absolute irony that this troublesome priest is doing the very same thing. He does need to be removed from office, but not the way Becket was – it was way to messy, but was rather Sharia like in nature.
