NO FAT CHICKS ALLOWED
From Junk Food Science comes word that the following individuals who have been elected to serve the interests of the people of the great state of Mississippi have decided to ban anyone who is “obese” from dining in restaurants.

I have included their names and their web sites so you can contact them if you wish.  My great dismay is the fact that two of these great men who are only interested in our health are Republicans.
W. T. Mayhall, Jr.  Republican
Bobby Shows    Democrat
John Read  Republican

Somewhere along the line I allowed myself to be sucked into this morass of bigotry against anyone who is not of perfect form, appearance, shape, color, size, and age.  I became so full of self-loathing and self hatred that I nearly with-drew from the world.

Funny thing, but the only acceptable bigotry and discrimination is against people who aren’t perfect.  We are now told that in order to be healthy and have a long life, we must be thin and spent hours a day exercising.  Consequently, there are millions of young women (and now men) who are dying (literally) to be thin. The over-weight person who is healthy is considered something vile, evil, nasty, stupid, uneducated, disgusting, and basically a burden on the medical system, and just plain disgusting.  The unhealthy thin woman is someone to be emulated.

I ought to post a few of the comments I’ve had when I discuss this.  90% of them are horrible.  I had one that came from someone you all would know that suggested I go out and start exercising and quit wolfing down every portion of food.  And, that when I read the comment it would upset me so bad I would go and consume a gallon of ice cream.

People are cruel when it comes to someone who isn’t perfect.  Things like this restaurant ‘ban’ which was designed to bring attention to the problems of society and force “obese” people to diet don’t help matters.  It only makes people treat you worse, if that is possible.

They talk about people who are over-weight having serious health problems.  What to know why?  Physicians are only interested in treating the weight.  Before they consider any other problems, they concentrate on the weight.  They also don’t like people who aren’t thin.  Nurses don’t like to work on overweight patients.  I would like to describe the past six months of medical problems I thought I had, and the $6000 in bills, but no one would believe it.

I woke up one morning and I couldn’t breath.  My heart was racing.  I decided I needed to start taking an aspirin a day like everyone else in the family is doing.  The only problem was the fact that I am terribly allergic to aspirin.  Then, when I started eating certain foods it was like I was having a heart attack.  I end up in the emergency room.  Diagnosis – chronic acid reflux caused by the fact that I am not thin – they never asked about the aspirin allergy. Oh, I was also severely dehydrated because I’d quit eating.  It took over 2 bags of fluid for them to decide my ‘cardiac’ problems were dehydration and stress.   That one visit was nearly $4000.  I go to a gastro what-ever and blow another $800.  He wanted to do a gastric-bypass.  I asked about the aspirin and the allergies.  They were caused, I was told, by my weight.

The next stop was the cardiologist.  The only reason I tolerate him is because he saved my mother’s life.  We don’t like one another.  He never asked a medical history beyond my mothers problems.  He decided the irregularity I was experiencing was due to my weight.  It wasn’t until the end of the visit that he admitted the problem was probably due to the rheumatic fever I had as an infant and not weight related.  He then suggested a few diets.  I informed him I did not eat meat, consumed very little dairy, and had not consumed an egg since I was 8 years old.  No I did not eat seafood of any kind.  Oh.  No, I did not smoke, I rarely consumed alcohol, and had never done a drug in my life.

I started re-booting my whole system to figure out what the allergies were.  By now I’d a family friend who is a retired family practice physician suggested I had a food allergy. I go to another physician who ordered something like $1200 in extensive blood tests.  My cholesterol is fine.  I am not a diabetic.  My problem was a food allergy and stress.

The food allergy?  Sunflowers and sunflower oil.  I’ve recently discovered cottonseed and soybean oil are also causing the same problems.  Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg of NYC, every fast food restaurant and most chain restaurants are now using those three “heart healthy” oils.  Check all the Freto-Lay products, breads, most processed foods – they all contain those “healthy” oils.

I’m learning how to cook.

If a person is not thin and isn’t starving themselves to the point of anoxia they are worthless in the eyes of today’s society.  Because the issue is “weight” they are open target.  If you only knew the comments I have endured throughout my life, but because society views me as vile and repulsive, those slights, rude remarks, and outright cruel comments are not only acceptable, but considered uplifting for me.

I don’t want to be told to diet.  I’ve been on every diet there is.  I am not going to submit myself to the questionable medical benefits of surgery.  And I don’t like to exercise because I don’t like getting dirty.  When I was a little kid I made my cousin Michael do all the dirty work so I could stay clean.  I’m still that bad, even today.

I’ve made myself miserable over the years.  I know the calorie count of every food there is.  I’ve tried just about everything.  My lack of success is not due to mental deficiency.  I’ve come to the conclusion I am what I am.  I am the way The Good Lord made me.  Would I like to weight 100lbs?  Of course I would.  But it is never going to happen.

If I can accept and love myself, why can’t you?  The only reason I’ve come to loath myself is because of the way I’ve been treated.  A few weeks ago I had an email from a woman whose teenage son had recently tried to commit suicide over his weight problems.  He had been brutalized by family, friends, people at school and his teachers.  Finally, he just gave up and decided he would be better off dead than living in the world as a fat monster.  His mother was surfing for information on the problem when she found a story I’d done.  She said it helped her, greatly.

Why can’t we learn to respect and love ourselves?  We can do it for others, but we can’t do it for ourselves.  I’ve given up.  I go back to the Apostle Paul and the problem he had that bothered him his entire life.  I’m learning how to be thankful for who I am and how I look.  Trust me, it isn’t easy, with the disapproving eyes of society looking at the likes of me as though I am some sort of vile, miserable excuse of a human being.

I’m tired of being considered human excrement. I’m also tired of you treating me that way. So, if you want to make a nasty comment, I’m going to save it and show it to the world.  It will end up in my next book.  Someone needs to stand up for people like that kid who tried to kill himself – to take his own life – to stop living – because he was fat and everyone was making fun of him to the point where he wanted to stop living.

There is something wrong with a society that had deemed people who aren’t thin and perfect absolutely worthless to the point where they want to die. What is wrong with you people?  Can you become any nastier or any more malicious.  You are killing kids who are either too fat or too thin. What is wrong with YOU?

After a nasty break-up about 8 years ago, I started hiding because I allowed someone to tell me I was nothing, disgusting, and unworthy of love or basic human kindness because I wasn’t cute and thin.  I have hidden, terrified of meeting people because of their reaction to me.  I’m a strong, grounded person.  Imagine this happening to a teenager who wasn’t strong enough to fight.

You know something, I’ve quit hiding.  If you don’t like the way I look, go look in the mirror.  I’m tired of being treated like bovine excrement. I’m also fighting for those kids who have had the life and future whipped in them.

It’s like this, the odds are that I’m going to be around until I’m pushing a full century of life.  The women in my family who are thin usually depart this life when they are in their 60’s.  The ones who look like me – the ones society considers unacceptable and a burden, well they live well into their 90’s.  I have a long time to stand up for people.

I’m not thin.  Guess what, I don’t care. If you don’t like it, go deal with your own prejudices.  Go scarf down a pint of Ben & Jerry then purge.  It will do you good, just remember to brush your teeth because all that purging destroys your teeth.

Rick Moran and I do not see eye to eye that often, but this time, I agree with him.
