MALKIN LIES, REASON DIES
Once again Malkin
goes ballistic over something she knows very little about, but since it says “Mexico” and it might assist Mexico, and all Mexicans are evil, then it is automatically bad. Hot Air waxes poetic because Rush mentions Malkin. Hot Air’s link to Rush. What is even more fascinating is that one of Malkin’s “gods” The Heritage Foundation APPROVES of this move. THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION approves of the Merida Initiative. I guess on Malkin’s part, ignorance is bliss as she continues to harp on what is a very good thing and a long time needed.
The Merida Initiative is designed to protect Mexico’s Southern Borders. It’s like this you bunch of racist dimwits, get a grip. If you want to stop illegal immigrants from coming into the US from Mexico, you need to stop illegal immigrants from coming into Mexico from farther south. It’s all about BORDER SECURITY. Get it, BORDER SECURITY. It is about drugs. It is about gun-running. It is about dangerous gangs coming in from Central America. Get it?
A RANT THAT IS OVER-DUE
You ought to be glad it is Lent and I’ve given up profanity because this is one of those blank blank blank blank blank times where I would like to use a pile of it.
I love the way these anti-immigration Suicide Bomber (anti-McCain) Conservatives stretch the truth (i.e. LIE) whenever they want to. Malkin trumpets the headline that the White House is going to spend 1.4 billion – on Mexico. But farther down in her blog
“…We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget….”
She admits it is for more than MEXICO, but refuses to say that in her headlines. $550 would go to Mexico, the rest would go to other Central American countries. I thought Malkin wanted BORDER SECURITY. Oh, it’s only the way John Tanton wants her to want it. You gotta love it.
“…This partnership would support coordinated strategies to:
Produce a safer and more secure hemisphere where criminal organizations no longer threaten governments and regional security; and
Prevent the entry and spread of illicit drugs and transnational threats throughout the region and to the United States.
To achieve these goals, President Bush has requested $550 million as part of a multi-year program to provide:
Non-intrusive inspection equipment, ion scanners, canine units for Mexican customs, for the new federal police and for the military to interdict trafficked drugs, arms, cash and persons.
Technologies to improve and secure communications systems to support collecting information as well as ensuring that vital information is accessible for criminal law enforcement.
Technical advice and training to strengthen the institutions of justice – vetting for the new police force, case management software to track investigations through the system to trial, new offices of citizen complaints and professional responsibility, and establishing witness protection programs.
Helicopters and surveillance aircraft to support interdiction activities and rapid operational response of law enforcement agencies in Mexico.
Initial funding for security cooperation with Central America that responds directly to Central American leaders’ concerns over gangs, drugs, and arms articulated during July SICA meetings and the SICA Security Strategy.
Includes equipment and assets to support counterpart security agencies inspecting and interdicting drugs, trafficked goods, people and other contraband as well as equipment, training and community action programs in Central American countries to implement anti-gang measures and expand the reach of these measures in the region….”

This is what those of us who are rational and reasonable about BORDER SECURITY and immigration reform have been requesting for ages. Mexico traditionally gets very little money to help fight the war on drugs compared to the other southern hemisphere countries. Do you people have any idea about what went on in Columbia and the victory there. The only way we are truly going to be able to secure the border with Mexico is to do what we did with Columbia. This is a good start. Unfortunately our Suicide Bomber Conservatives aren’t capable of thinking beyond their hatred of John McCain and cannot think rationally about immigration reform – with this proposal has nothing to do. It is about drugs, gun-running, and gangs. You people scream and moan about the various drug gangs that are coming into this country, but don’t seem to comprehend they are not from MEXICO BUT FROM CENTRAL AMERICA. Do you want to stop them?
Malkin links to this Council on Foreign Relations piece about the MUCH NEEDED FUNDING.
Malkin continues.
“…Naturally, the State Department has taken a lead role. They’ve held meetings in secret and cut out members of Congress from discussion. You’ll love the explanation for the secrecy: Mexico is “sensitive,” you see. Also, according to one expert, “Mexico is very protective of its sovereignty and very worried about any incursion of U.S. security forces or private contractors—like Blackwater—coming in to train Mexicans.” Yeah, they’re worried about incursions and sovereignty…”
I truly wish this were a Sunday so I could use some profanity. All I can think about is the old SNL news skit with Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin, “Jane you miserable slut.”
No profanity, please.
It seems Ms Malkin’s panties are in a wad because Felipe Calderon said that the anti-immigration activists are giving the US a bad name. I hate to break it to her, but they are!
“…"The American economy is suffering, but if you take the point of view that the solution for this situation, a lack of competitiveness of the American economy, is closing the border, you are making a very big mistake," Calderon said. During his speech, Calderon said that he had worked hard to combat drug gangs in Mexico but that the effort would be long, costly and difficult. He also pointed a finger at the U.S., saying the drug trade in Mexico is contingent on the demand for illegal drugs north of the border. "Drugs are not just our problem. We are the neighbor of the largest consumer in the world," he said….”
It’s true! Naturally Malkin is taking her talking points from Dan Stein and FAIR.
She also mis-represents another news article about Mexico refusing to deport criminals – that’s not true – they refuse to deport if a person is facing the death penalty. Once again Malkin misrepresents the story:
“…A methamphetamine dealer who gunned down a deputy during a traffic stop in Southern California. A man in Arizona who killed his ex-girlfriend's parents and brother and snatched his children. A man who suffocated his baby daughter and left her body in a toolbag on an expressway overpass near Chicago. Ordinarily, these would be death penalty cases. But these men fled to Mexico, thereby escaping the possibility of execution. The reason: Mexico won't send anyone back to the United States unless the U.S. gives assurances it won't seek the death penalty — a 30-year-old policy that rankles some American prosecutors and enrages victims' families….”
We are the only “civilized” nation in the world that murders people as punishment. Maybe we would have an easier time with extradition if we would stop murdering people as punishment.
Malkin then hyperventilates as she points to this Brooking’s Report. But - she leaves this part of the report out of her version.
“…The details of this plan must now be shared with the Mexican and U.S. Congress to ensure transparency in the formulation and implementation of the Merida Initiative. The grant of military equipment and short-term measures to contain criminal networks may de-capitate their leadership and create internal confusion for a while, but the underlying political and socio-economic reasons for their criminal enterprise will oblige them to re-emerge. Both our societies need to understand what lies behind this upward catapult in criminal behavior and both Mexicans and North Americans need to understand what is at stake. Threats to security impact daily lives, economic activity, as well as the diversion of resources from education, health and housing to police and military operations. Comprehension of the interrelated nature of security threats requires openness with the public, a willingness to test assumptions and dialogue over priorities. To engage both our societies is to raise awareness and seek public support for a sustained offensive that may have to continue for a decade….”
CONSERVATIVES NEED A HISTORY LESSON
I’ve come to the conclusion that our dear Suicide Bomber Conservatives are even greater revisionists when it comes to history than are liberals. At least liberals have the honesty to admit they are revisionists.
If dear Ms Malkin knew anything, and I do mean knew anything about our history with Mexico since 1848 maybe she could comprehend the problem. But I’ve also come to the conclusion that these people are incapable of rational thought or discourse.
Let’s start with the War with Mexico and move on from there. Have you ever watched any westerns? You know how our guys go back and forth across the Rio Grande with posses chasing them, guns blazing. Guess what? THIS IS TRUE!
Have you ever seen the movie Tombstone? (It is my 2nd favorite Wyatt Earp movie). Well, guess what, it is TRUE! I’ve spent the past 12 years studying just that. I have boxes of papers, including copies of the original documents between the Mexican government and ours. The incursions of the outlaws known as the Cowboys were so flagrant and so frequent and so deadly that the government of Mexico was threatening to invade the United States and put a stop to it themselves if we couldn’t. These border incursions ranged from Texas and New Mexico to Arizona. I have the documents between the Mexican Department of State and ours and from the Mexican War Department and ours. These outlaws, one of the first examples of loosely organized crime, were literally terrorizing the country around the border.
The deprivations were stopped by Wyatt Earp and his Vendetta Posse from around the 22nd of March to the first of May, 1882.
Because of events like this, Mexico is very sensitive of Americans crossing into the country. It is also the reason no one is allowed to carry a weapon across the border.
Look, this is a Wild West thing. If our Suicide Bomber Conservatives know a little bit about history, they would understand this. Unfortunately, they are nothing but ignorant wretches.
Malkin references Richard Lamm. (I’ve been holding back on this one, just waiting for the right time).
PRAISING RICHARD LAMM
Richard Lamm
“…Dick Lamm (left); Mike McGarry of the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform (center) and me, Jan. 8, 2003, Denver, Colorado. I have had the pleasure of speaking and debating alongside former Colorado Gov. Dick Lamm. In Colorado five years ago, we took on an open-borders contingent that was pushing for the illegal alien ID card known as the matricula consular (which I’ve blogged about extensively here.) He’s a true maverick–a Democrat who has long presaged the self-destructive impact of open borders. In 2004, Dick Lamm gave a now-famous speech at one of the Federation for American Immigration Reform’s conferences. The incisive speech, “I have a plan to destroy America,” went viral. I still have at least one or two readers e-mailing it to me every week. I’m reprinting it today….”
SPLC version The Pink Flamingo version
“…More alarming than Lamm's dismal and inaccurate predictions are his policy prescriptions. A key solution to America's health care problems, according to Lamm, is for the elderly to die sooner. Lamm has long been a major booster of euthanasia and in a 1984 speech he spoke of the elderly's "duty to die." In Megatraumas, the secretary of health and human services proposes health care rationing, arguing that money should not be spent on transplants, artificial organs and other life-extending procedures for those over 65.
Lamm's government of the future does not treat citizens of other countries any better. The secretary of agriculture in Megatraumas argues that America's own "shrinking agricultural base" means we must stop sending grain to famine-stricken countries, even in emergency situations.
A Lamm administration is unlikely to be a big protector of civil liberties. Looking back from the year 2000, he writes approvingly, "The very controversial National Identification Act of 1991, requiring all United States citizens to carry identification, has greatly enhanced the ability of law enforcement officers to identify criminals and terrorists."
Nor is Richard Lamm likely to promote racial harmony. When he ran for the U.S. Senate, his long-time tenure on the board of the anti-immigration Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) provoked the hostility of Hispanics. Black Americans have little reason to warm to Lamm either. The Detroit News reported recently that over the past decade, during Lamm's association with the group, FAIR has received $1 million in contributions from the Pioneer Fund, a foundation that supports eugenics, selective breeding and "race betterment."
America's future is far brighter than Richard Lamm or those who might share his philosophy believe. The zero-sum view of the world is wrong about a whole series of issues, including trade, immigration and the economy more generally. If it were correct, then with each new person -- every time a mother bore a child -- America would become a weaker nation, which is simply not the case. Proposals to issue national ID cards, encourage euthanasia for the elderly, end famine relief, block imports and raise taxes would certainly head America in the wrong direction. They're enough to make even Ross Perot look pretty good by comparison. "…"When reporters start covering former Colorado governor Richard Lamm's bid for the presidency on Ross Perot's Reform Party ticket, they probably will focus on the politics of Lamm's run, rather than on his views. That would be a mistake. Lamm has written widely on his vision of the world -- and it's not a pretty picture.
Among Lamm's key issues are establishing population control, stopping immigration, raising taxes to reduce the deficit, increasing tariffs for greater trade protection and ending "excessive" medical care for the elderly. His ideology is based on the "lifeboat" philosophy of human existence, according to which a race or nation cannot survive with its own limited resources if it dispenses those resources to others….”

Note to Michelle: Lamm is a liberal and radical environmentalist.
“…It is noteworthy that in the ballot, only Lamm is really forthcoming about his position vis a vis the immigration issue, and even then the reference is brief and somewhat oblique. Here's what he says:
My priorities are wilderness and biodiversity loss caused by habitat destruction and resource extraction -- overpopulation and over-consumption are critical root causes. Our country's population is exploding, 44 million added since 1990 alone, driven by rising fertility and record immigration. The Club's population programs -- global and domestic -- must be strengthened…”

THE TROUBLE WITH MALKIN
If Michelle Malkin would stick to what she does best, reporting on the war on terror, she would be much better off than with this dribble. Unfortunately she must piddle around with things she is either too bigoted to comprehend or to ignorant to understand. I am seriously afraid it is the former instead of the latter, which is very sad. Once upon a time I gave her the benefit of the doubt but no more. It is quite obvious her primary motivator is anti-immigration. The beautiful, magnificent irony here is that in order for Malkin to legitimize her extreme position, she must wallow with some abject liberals.
I’ve seen her do some shoddy work before, but this hit piece about the Merida Initiative is one of the worst pieces I’ve seen. No responsible party is panning this program, only a few hot-headed anti-immigration freaks. The worst part of it is now Rush is on board and his mindless listeners will start making trouble without realizing that the CONSERVATIVE HERITAGE FOUNDATION supports the program. The worst thing is that Malkin mis-quotes, mis-represents, and basically leaves things out in order to prove her point. Fr. Penn says a half-truth is the same thing as a lie.
I think now is the time to remember that classic line of Dan Aykroyd. Let’s all say it in unision. “Jane, you ignorant slut.”
