LOST IN SPACE
I’ve spent the entire day working on a magnum opus about today’s far right conservatives and how they are rapidly losing their minds. I have nearly 16 pages of commentary, links, and rather damning quotes, but then I realized, what’s the use. I think perspective is rather important right now. Today Sean Hannity endorsed Mitt Romney. Today John McCain was endorsed by the governors of California and Texas. (I did not say Terminator, but I thought about it). He was also endorsed by Ted Olsen.
Have you noticed how the conservative MSM talk show, blogging super-stars have endorsed Mitt Romney. Fact is that’s about all he has in the way of endorsements.
Does he have any celeb endorsements?
Big Mac has Rambo and the Terminator! Huckabee has Walker, Texas Ranger.
Who does Romney have? Hugh Hewitt, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin.
Okay, feel free to snicker, I am.
McCain has well over 100 retired generals and admirals endorsing him.
Mitt Romney has Captain Ed and Ann Coulter. (Sorry, I couldn’t help it).
And finally, John McCain has Rudy Giuliani and Steve Forbes.
Mitt Romney has Rich Lowry.
I was quite upset this evening when I watched Sean Hannity’s Conservative Big Mac Attack. When Ann Coulter started making an even bigger fool of herself than usual, I was furious. It wasn’t appropriate and it wasn’t fair. But when have conservatives been fair lately? I finally gave up and watched Lost. It dawned on me that these people truly are “lost” in the space between their ears. (Sorry).
How much farther into the depths of depravity and mendacity can these people sink?
How did Hurley get off the island?
Has Jack turned into a traitor?
Evidently Locke didn’t go bad after all.
Then my daily copy of Day By Day found its way to my inbox. Funny how the Lord has a way of forcing us to put things into perspective.
The Morning resolve for Feb 1:
Forward Movement Press
“I will try this day to live a simple, sincere and serene life, repelling promptly every thought of discontent, anxiety, discouragement, impurity, and self-seeking; cultivating cheerfulness, magnanimity, charity, and the habit of holy silence; exercising economy in expenditure, generosity in giving, carefulness in conversation, diligence in appointed service, fidelity to every trust, and a childlike faith in God.
And as I cannot in my own strength do this, nor even with a hope of success attempt it, I look to thee, O Lord God my Father, in Jesus my Savior, and ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit….”

Have you ever looked for a sign from the Lord, or just maybe needed a little uplifting. Maybe not, thought after what I just found on from the Anglican Communion Website. The Anglican Cycle of Prayer includes every Anglican bishop in the world.
The Rt Revd Kirk Stevan Smith of the Diocese of Arizona is the designated bishop to be prayed for today. Under his name is the following passage from Proverbs 6: 12-19
12A scoundrel and a villain
goes around with crooked speech,
13winking the eyes, shuffling the feet,
pointing the fingers,
14with perverted mind devising evil,
continually sowing discord;
15on such a one calamity will descend suddenly;
in a moment, damage beyond repair.
16There are six things that the Lord hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:
17haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
18a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that hurry to run to evil,
19a lying witness who testifies falsely,
and one who sows discord in a family.

After reading this, you want to tell me Our Father in Heaven is not in charge?
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Bishop Smith. Aside from being a ‘cowboy’ bishop who goes around in his boots, hat, and belt buckle, he has the excellent taste of considering me a good writer. We might have a bit of a mutual admiration society. He is crazy about the book I wrote about Endicott Peabody and I am crazy the work he is doing to thwart the purveyors of anti-immigration hate. It’s so bad now when he goes into Cochise County he must travel with an armed state police escort. Bishop Smith is a Wyatt Earp and Tombstone fan.
It all goes back to Tombstone and Wyatt Earp for me. When I need a sign, there are times when it somehow connects to Wyatt Earp.
The bottom line here is the talk-show conservatives aren’t in charge. Our Father in Heaven is. With Him, all things are possible.
Thanks be to God!
