HOW TO LOSE - FOREVER
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
Lewis Carroll

I may have a problem with dyslexia that seriously effects my ability to do any sort of mathematical problems, but even a dyslexic knows that there are certain percentages needed to achieve a majority. If we use the theory that 100% = 100%, then in order to have over half that number - or a plurality, one needs no less than 51%.
Please stay with me.
Liberals make up something like 20% of American voters
Conservatives make up something like 35% of American voters.
Now, if you take that 35% and subtract it from 52% you come up with an additional 16% of voters - from somewhere.
Take into account that of the 35% of individuals who identify themselves as "conservative" 20% of those voted for Barack Obama. If so, that leaves only 15% of conservatives who are the GOP "base".
That is a very small number. We need to find another 36% to get to that magic number of 51%.
It takes 51% for a majority.
Are you comprehending this?
So called "ideology" conservatives make up only 15% of today's reliable GOP voting base.
Let's extend these numbers. For the same of my addled brain, I'm going to double the numbers to come up with 100%
For 100% of the GOP - we're now talking 30% ideology conservatives. That's not even a third of the party - less than one third. We're dealing with a little over a quarter of Republicans. That's not even enough to consider them to be the "base".
When you take 100% and subtract 30% you come up with 70%. That is almost three quarters of the GOP.
There is a bottom line here. I don't know if ideology conservatives can comprehend these numbers. They don't function in logic.
You cannot win elections with just 30% of the party. That's why the GOP has been losing elections since 2006. It isn't because of George W. Bush. It is because the candidates chosen by the more conservative base of GOP primary goers are LOSERS. They cannot win.
The worst of it - the "losing" primary candidates are more conservative than was Reagan. John McCain is just as or even more conservative than was Ronald Reagan. Yes, deal with it. Reagan today would be considered "MODERATELY CONSERVATIVE".
Why?
Today's "conservative" has become too extreme. They've lost their pragmatism. They've lost their minds.
This is a recipe for absolute disaster.
If we go the way that Rush, Sean, or the "top shelf" conservative bloggers and pundits want us to go, the GOP is doomed, absolutely doomed to being a minority party forever.
The problem is there is no way we can get this information through the petrified brains of today's ideology conservative. They are as blinded by the "light" as are the most extreme Obamabots.
Michael Medved is 100% correct.
Let's try this another way. Back in 2006 these same people cost us the House and the Senate. Our ideological talk show conservatives thought this was fine. They are conservative. But, these "Blue Dogs" maked up the Dem majority, and voted with the majority. Now, in 2008 they cost John McCain the election. Barack Obama didn't need to raise all that money or have that alleged ground game. He could count on 20% of conservatives to vote Democratic.
ONLY 15% OF CONSERVTIVE VOTERS ARE GOP. The rest are Democrats. Now, remake the GOP out of that puny number and you will doom the GOP to failure election after election.
The world has changed. You either change with it, evolve, or be left behind to become extinct. I do not want my beloved GOP to go extinct. Maybe it's time for the grown-ups to step in and take control of things. The childish conservative ideologues have made a mess of it.
