IMMIGRATION A LOSER FOR THE GOP

The SPLC brings us the lovely and welcomed tale about the ongoing implosion of the minutemen, et. al.  Jim Gilchrist is denouncing the movement he helped to create.  They are denouncing him.  It makes for a wonderful story of how, when you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas!
"...Gilchrist, who has spent the past four years of his life trying to keep immigrants out of the country, is an unlikely booster for ethnically diverse neighborhoods. But, these days, it seems he would rather spend time in the company of immigrants than with his fellow anti-immigrant crusaders. "I get more hate mail from members of my own movement, from so-called Minutemen, than from the open-border people," he confesses. The only border that he regularly visits is the one between his own yard and his neighbors'. "I'd be wary of going down to the border myself these days," he says. "I'm worried about what [the Minutemen] would do with a sidearm."..."
Then there is this great big I TOLD YOU SO:
"...This year, there has been more evidence that, while immigration remains a legitimate issue, the supposed nationwide furor was a product of media hype. With the congressional debate over and the press increasingly ignoring the Minutemen, most Americans are professing moderate views on the issue. As of June, the percentage of Americans who want to reduce immigration levels has fallen within a percentage point of the 20-year low, while 64 percent of those polled say that immigration is a good thing for the country (the second-highest it's been since September 11). Even on Super Tuesday, the height of the presidential primary, exit polls found almost 60 percent of Republican voters favoring immigration policies that Lou Dobbs would deride as "amnesty."..."

IMMIGRATION IS A LOSER
By now we all know the nativist hype from that small percentage of self described "conservative movement" anti-immigration supporters is one of the reasons the GOP keeps losing Congressional seats.  Strong-arm, Lou Dobbs anti-immigration is one massive loser.  Mark Kirkorian and his nativist handlers commissioned a poll about the election and immigration.
"...A new Zogby poll shows only about a third of Obama's voters supported him because of his backing for an amnesty, while two-thirds either voted for him despite his support for amnesty (15%) or it wasn't a factor at all in their decision (51%). Interestingly, among McCain voters, 59% did it despite his amnesty stance, 28% didn't care, and only 11% supported him because of his backing of amnesty. The respondents overall backed enforcement over legalization by 3 to 1, but they were also asked whether those positions were less important to them than a year ago — 11% of enforcement supporters backed it less intensely than a year ago, but fully 20% of amnesty supporters were less committed. Press release here, and pdf of results here and here...."

The strong-arming John Tanton anti-immigration supporters have boxed the GOP into a corner:
"...For the first time ever, whites constituted less than 75 percent of the electorate, a considerable problem for the Republican Party given its historical problems attracting minorities. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) drew just 55 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004, but Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) drew 67 percent of it four years later -- a remarkable showing considering that many of those voters preferred Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) in the Democratic contest and supposedly were resistant to voting for a black candidate...."

In fact, the anti-immigration left-overs, those "Lou Dobbs" voters, seem to be gravitating toward the Losertarians.  What's left of the "minutemen" are forming alliances with the Losertarians and with Ron Paul Bots.  In fact, the future of the GOP, Sarah Palin (2012) even openly warns that immigration has destroyed the Hispanic vote for the GOP.
"...In the first part of Sarah Palin's interview with Matt Lauer, Palin highlights a few reasons why the Republican ticket was defeated: the loss of the Hispanic vote, Obama's fundraising advantage, and anti-incumbency sentiment. In light of her remarks about the Hispanic vote, Allahpundit observes: "If you think she’s going to jettison her position on amnesty now that she’s free of Team Maverick’s clutches, I think you’re kidding yourself.".."
