WE KNEW IT WAS COMING
Around South Carolina, the very conservative junior senator who is the conservative darling, is considered a bit of a diva who will ham it up for any camera. There's never been one he doesn't like. If there's a camera within 100 miles, he's going to find a way to get onto television. The conservative world likes to rail against the recently re-elected senior senator, Lindsey Graham, but in South Carolina, Lindsey is the "beloved" Senator and DeMint is the also ran. He is an also-ran who doesn't like being upstaged. So, this week, when the deluded Republican governors met and for some strange reason known only to them, elected Mark Sanford, the increasingly incompetent governor from South Carolina as the new chairman of the GOP Governors Association.
As the SC blog The Palmetto Scoop puts it, Mark Sanford is incompetent.
"...This is great news for Republicans who like picking petty fights with other Republicans, hypocritically wasting tax dollars on environmental nonsense and personal slush funds, flip-flopping on key issues, and putting television cameras ahead of taxpayers...."
With SC's beloved senior senator getting so darn much attention this fall, and Mark Sanford having just been elected as another sign of how incompetent the GOP is becoming, it was inevitable that Jim DeMint do something to regain the spotlight. Evidently Jim DeMint is so determined to force the GOP to morph back into the party of Reagan, that he forgot Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of a Fellow Republican.""..."We have to be honest, and there's a lot of blame to go around, but I have to mention George Bush, and I have to mention Ted Stevens, and I'm afraid I even have to mention John McCain," he said.
DeMint offered a long list of complaints about McCain's record in the Senate and on the campaign trail.
"McCain, who is proponent of campaign finance reform that weakened party organizations and basically put George Soros in the driver's seat," DeMint said. "His proposal for amnesty for illegals. His support of global warming, cap-and-trade programs that will put another burden on our economy. And of course, his embrace of the bailout right before the election was probably the nail in our coffin this last election. And he has been an opponent of drilling in ANWR, at a time when energy is so important. It really didn't fit the label, but he was our package."..."
Once again, Jim DeMint has proven, as AJ Strata says, conservatives are clueless. Or, as I wrote yesterday, "I'm with Stupid!"DeMint offered a long list of complaints about McCain's record in the Senate and on the campaign trail.
