PALIN 2012!
The week following a normal Presidential election is historically to be the week the POTUS-elect explodes onto the world scene with a much deserved victory lap.
The POTUS-elect is now the center of the universe (or so he thinks).
He is the be all and the end all, the alpha and the omega.
He is to be feted.
He is to be celebrated.
He is all that!
Every reporter in the world wants to snag THE interview.
He is the subject of every conversation.
He grabs every headline.
No one ever steals his thunder.
The losing team is sent home to sulk. They are allowed to re-appear on the late night talk scene. A few months later they can announce the book deal. That is about it until the beginning of the next election cycle except for a few well planned appearances with the local political.
Evidently no one bothered to tell this to Sarah Palin!
The moment the election was over the attacks from “within” began anew, even more viciously. Naturally we, her loyal supporters have rushed to defend her.
Sarah Palin has not stalked off into the dark night.
The vicious attacks on her have backfired (thank heavens)!
The attacks have stolen Barack Obama’s place in the sun. They have pushed him from the American stage just a bit.
In my lifetime I have never seen this – have you?
Sarah Palin has somehow managed to steal some of Barack Obama’s glory. While this bodes very well for continued star power does this say something about Obama’s prowess as a world leader – or lack thereof? Or – does this tell us that Sarah Palin is the NEXT BIG THING?
How long this attention will last is anyone’s guess. Every day it continues is good for her political future. Every day she remains in the spotlight is one less day we need to fight for her place at the top of the 2012 ticket.
The political skeptic in me wants to ask one question. Were the rumors, smears and “attacks” from the McCain campaign exposing her specifically to harm her or is there something else going on here? Are we being treated to one of the most brilliant moves in reverse psychology in GOP history?
If harm was the intent, and I think it was, it has had the opposite effect.
Several weeks ago conservative talk show host Michael Medved (my favorite) expressed the opinion that if McCain were to lose, Sarah Palin’s career was toast. The only way he felt she would be able to salvage any hope of a national presence was if something incredible were to happen.
I think it has.
Sarah Palin has been so maligned and treated so badly that even some of her detractors are beginning to feel a bit guilty about her treatment. She has weathered the slings and arrows with such grace that she is now proving her most vicious detractors wrong.
By turning her into an object of ridicule with so many lies, her detractors have failed miserably. The more they attack her the better she looks.
It makes you wonder who the real loser is.
We all know it isn’t Sarah Palin.
In a way it makes you want to feel just a little bit sorry for Barack Obama – nah.
