THE DEATH OF HONOR?
The Pink Flamingo’s regular readers probably know that their humble blogger is a historian. While I specialize in the life of Wyatt Earp and Tombstone, one of my favorite topics is the history of ancient Rome. Consequently, I find this election absolutely fascinating in many ways. I’ve always said that history is cyclical – what goes around comes around. Historians of every ilk are saying that we are in one of those “moments” of time where we are standing at a cross-roads. This nation can go either way. We can either remain a Republic or deteriorate into a Marxist-Communist-Socialist dictatorship.
It is that simple.
Like everyone else, I’ve been annoyed with John McCain for not going for the jugular with Barack Obama. This morning it dawned on me one of the reasons I so admire John McCain is because he is one of last of a dying breed of gentlemen we can only compare with the patrician Roman senatorial class of the Republic. They were men who were bred to put country first, ahead of personal avarice, ambition, and power. Their sense of that personal honor demanded they behave in a specified manner. Country First. If they violated this code, they had only one recourse: suicide.
We are dealing with a man who values his country more than his ambition. He has put his country ahead of everything from the moment he was shot down over Vietnam. Personal power and ambition are secondary.
When a man of honor goes up against a sniveling little snot of a twit like Barack Obama, unfortunately the honorable one usually loses.
Why?
The answer is quite simple.
The man of honor simply refuses to sacrifice his honor.
That sniveling little bucket of snot known as Barack Obama will do anything to achieve power. He is like Sulla, Caligula, Nero. He doesn’t give a rip about anything but his agenda. Nothing else matters. The ends justify the means. It is a quest for power. It is a quest for affirmation. It is a quest that ends up not only in personal destruction, but the destruction of the state and a way of life.
He has lied.
He has cheated.
He has broken enough Federal laws to spend the rest of his life in prison.
He has supped with our enemies.
He doesn’t care about this nation. All he cares about is the implementation of a personal agenda. To that end he will do anything, and has done just about anything. And, like the devil , he has a pleasing and seductive continence that beckons to the mindless and those of limited thought and intellect.
As a student of history, it has been my misfortune to realize that sniveling little buckets of snot like Barack Obama usually win. The Romans called it Bread and Circuses. He who could provide the most entertainment, the greatest handouts, and could offer the better show was always elected. The man of honor who demanded Country First was usually the one who was left, stabbed, and bleeding to death, on the steps of the Roman Senate.
The man of honor is the one who is always admired by history. Sure, he is more boring. He is flawed, he seldom won, but he is the one future generations used as an example of what a “real man” once was and what future generations of men “should be”.
The sniveling little buckets of snot like Barack Obama end up as the comets of history, bright, flashy, full of trash, and terrifying. They are the ones known as dictators. They are known as despots. They are the ones who crucified Christians. They burned honorable women at the stake if their advances were refused. And they were the ones lit their dinner parties with the pitch covered bodies of lit political enemies who were impaled and were burning alive.
As for me, I'll make my stand with honor. In the long run, honor usually wins. It may be bloodied and bruised, but it eventually comes out on top.
And so, my advise for John McCain?
Just keep on being John McCain. You will go down in history with Cato, Cicero, Seneca, or Priscus. Barack Obama will be on the list with Caligula and Nero.
Dime con quien andas y te digo quien eres.
