HUCKABEE BACK-TRACKING
Mike Huckabee is now learning the heard way. Someone should put a disclaimer across the rear of Jim Gilchrist, alleged founder of the Minuteman Project.
"Mendacious" (It's a polite word for lying)
Too bad Mike Huckabee is discovering what a few of us have known for ages. Jim Gilchrist is not to be trusted. Frankly, I don't think any of his ilk are worthy of trust, but that's another story. So Gilchrist, protector of the planet, magnificent of the minutemen, and defender of the defenseless is just out doing his thing, talking out of both sides of his prevaricating mouth.
Stephen Dinan, of the Moonie and White Supremacist Washington Times is hyping an interview. Gilchrist will do anything and say anything for publicity. He will even screw Mike Huckabee who is innocent - or stupid - enough to fall for the Gilchrist spew.
"...Mr. Huckabee, who won last week's Republican Iowa caucuses, promised Minuteman Project founder James Gilchrist that he would force a test case to the Supreme Court to challenge birthright citizenship, and would push Congress to pass a 28th Amendment to the Constitution to remove any doubt. The former Arkansas governor thinks the case against U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean was railroaded, Mr. Gilchrist said. Ramos and Compean are serving lengthy prison sentences for shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect in the buttocks. "I would make it my first act as president to pardon agents Ramos and Compean," Mr. Gilchrist said Mr. Huckabee told him. "I regret that they have spent yet another Christmas locked up in a windowless cell like animals and unable to be free and with their families." Mr. Gilchrist, who campaigned with Mr. Huckabee in Iowa last week, said Mr. Huckabee explained his positions in a half-hour conversation on the campaign trail. "I read back my notes to him twice and I told him I did not want to put words in his mouth," said Mr. Gilchrist, who also issued a press release from the Minuteman Project detailing Mr. Huckabee's positions. "The guy looked me right in the eye."..."
So now we are dealing with no honor among thieves. You can't trust what comes out of Jim Gilchrist's prevaricating (my favorite of the lying words) mouth and you can't trust the anti-immigration spin that comes out of the Washington Times with their editorial staff connections to some very vile and nasty people like National Socialist leader Bill White.
Not only has Huckabee vowed to repeal the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution and single-handedly pull the rug out from under one of the great freedoms this nation provides, but is also going to pardon those preciously innocent Border Patrol Gone Bad poster-boys Ramos and Compean, abjectly ignoring the fact that they violated so many laws and rules it is pathetic. But you see, as long as you are shooting at a vile illegal Mexican drug mule, the Constitution doesn't matter.
To Dinan's credit he does put a spin on all those infighting little nativitists, exposing their little personal problems.
"..Brook Young, who runs ImmigrationWatchdog.com, produced a Web video criticizing Mr. Gilchrist's endorsement. Mr. Gilchrist fired back last week with an e-mail that appeared to threaten to publicly accuse the man of being a pedophile. "I have been hearing on the blogs, over the telephone and through e-mails that you are a pedophile, Brook. Will that accusation also reach the news media soon?" Mr. Gilchrist wrote. "If the blogs and e-mails say so, then aren't you guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt?" Mr. Young posted the e-mail on his Web site and said he had to go public because Mr. Gilchrist has exceeded the bounds of the immigration debate, "to promote and actually lie about Mike Huckabee and his immigration plan and his past record. Now we feel like we have to say something." "It's crazy," he said. "You get e-mails from this guy and it's like this guy is truly out of his mind." Mr. Huckabee has promised to run a clean campaign. William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee, said Mr. Gilchrist's campaigning reflects badly on Mr. Huckabee. "He's an intrinsic front-row part of the campaign who's sending out e-mails to people who oppose Huckabee to try to lie about them," said Mr. Gheen, who has tangled with Mr. Gilchrist and is trying to block Mr. Huckabee from winning the Republican nomination. Mr. Huckabee's campaign said the governor was not available to comment on the e-mail exchange. Mr. Gilchrist said he was not accusing Mr. Young of pedophilia, but making a point about making up charges. He also said he was not speaking on behalf of Mr. Huckabee when he sent the e-mail, and that the criticism pushed him to the limit...."
Arkansas Times Blog is very unkind to Huckabee. We're at the point where you can't tell the players without a score card. Fortunately, The Pink Flamingo has been wallowing in the manure excreted by these individuals for several years, so, just sit back and enjoy the fight. We are basically dealing with the old adage that there is no honor among thieves. We're also watching a power struggle within the movement, where the more extreme elements are starting to flex their muscles a little and try taking over the leadership of the anti-immigration movement and make a play for publicity. Unfortunately Mike Huckabee, pandering for votes, and falling for the lie that being tough on immigration is going to get him elected, paired up with Jim Gilchrist, who is on his way out, literally.
JIM GILCHRIST - Check out the SPLC report about Gilchrist's legal problems.
ALIPAC - On Dec 26, ALIPAC issued a statement on the Gilchrist attachment to Huckabee. It was followed by this hysterical petition denouncing him. ALIPAC was thrilled when Malkin joined the argument, slamming both Gilchrist & Huckabee.
WILLIAM GHEEN - Gheen is trying to assert himself as a new 'leader' of the movement. He is now taking on Gilchrist. He also conducted some vicious push-polling in Iowa, designed to harm Huckabee and McCain.
BROOK YOUNG - Young was once associated with Gilchrist. They are now feuding. The feud.
IMMIGRATION WATCHDOG - There appears to be a feud between Immigration Watchdog and Gilchrist. This is the evil email from Gilchrist.
CHRIS SIMCOX - Today the SPLC provided additional information on the problems Simcox is having with his merry little minutemen.
THE HUCKABEE RETRACTION
The Huckabee retraction:
"...I do not support an amendment to the constitution that would prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens. I have no intention of supporting a constitutional amendment to deny birthright citizenship..."
came quick and rather cryptic. Byron York at NRO has the details, and is probably scratching his head, having fallen for the nativist party lie hook line and sinker. This is going to be such a rude awakening for these people. I predict a few break-downs and ups, also."...The Times story looked a little odd from the start; I've never heard Huckabee talk about that idea. But hooking up with the Minutemen was not a good idea for Huckabee. One can be plenty tough on illegal immigration without doing that, and Huckabee is just not a good fit with the group. In Iowa a few weeks ago, I talked to Jim Gilchrist about the endorsement. Why Huckabee? Wouldn't the Minutemen dislike his position on the children of illegal aliens and college tuition in Arkansas? Gilchrist told me that he had sent out detailed questionnaires to all the candidates, and Huckabee was the only one who bothered to fill it out. So he got the endorsement. At the time, Huckabee was looking for any advantage he could get. Now, he might be rethinking things...."
THE USUAL SUSPECTS
I find the fact that the conservative blog world is bemused by this latest Gilchrist antic rather amusing. This is standard operating procedure for Jim Gilchrist. Who knows if this will hurt Huckabee. I've reached the point where I no longer care. I'm sick and tired of our Republican candidates pandering to the worst creatures of hate and racism. I think we are going to pay a serious price for the fact that our candidates lack the courage to look beyond the hype and see the truth. If they don't wake up, we're going to have a horrific defeat in November. Hardline anti-immigration is a big-time loser.
UPDATE
I forgot to add information about the anti-14th Amendment research I've done. There are a number of REPUBLICAN MEMBERS OF THE US CONGRESS who have signed on to repeal the 14th Amendment.
They also want to repeal the 17th Amendment - FYI.
