The Biggest Loser in Iowa – Rush Limbaugh

FYI - YOU DON’T INSULT YOUR BASE
There are times when it takes me awhile to figure things out. This evening, after listening to Mike Huckabee’s excellent victor’s speech, I realized what the problem is with Mike Huckabee and Rush Limbaugh. We’re dealing with two different versions of Ronald Reagan! Rush Limbaugh’s semi-cult-like religious view of Ronald Reagan is completely different from mine. I remember a great person, humble, decent, kind, optimistic, and Christian, extremely Christian. I will always associate him with my grandparents, who absolutely adored him. (As long as Reagan was alive, for some strange reason I felt as though I still had a part of my grandparents. When he died, I think I mourned as much the loss of my grandparents as I did the loss of Reagan).
I saw the same thing this evening watching Huckabee (and Chuck Norris oogling the camera like some 15 year old school boy on the evening news) give what was a positive, optimistic speech – “The greatest generation has yet to be born”. That’s good stuff. It was a CONSERVATIVE Ronald Reagan speech. I watched and realized I can just as easily vote for Mitt Romney as I could for Rudy Giuliani or John McCain. He’s a decent man. Ronald Reagan was a decent man.
But, you know how John Edwards has two Americas? Rush Limbaugh has two Reagans – the real one and the mythical one.
The really weird thing? Glenn Reynolds even thought it was a good speech.
I know I should not take so much glee in Rush Limbaugh’s defeat this evening, but the two candidates he has disparaged the most, Mike Huckabee and John McCain did well. Like the Opinionated Catholic gloats, National Review did not do so well, either. Also, like Opinionated Catholic states, they are ‘profiling’ Christians.
AJ Strata sees a great GOP divide coming. I disagree in that I think the divide is not GOP but conservative. Let’s face facts that they need to be put in their place, starting the most vocal conservative of them all, Rush Limbaugh.
Today Limbaugh unloaded on Huckabee. He also unloaded on Huckabee supporters who are supporting him because he is conservative. Somewhere it needs to end. Somehow we need to bury Ronald Reagan and Rush Limbaugh needs to stop worshiping him. Yesterday Flap unloaded on Rush.
Do we even know what a conservative is today? I’m still trying to figure out what a neo-con is. Guess I never will. I’m still trying to figure out why Mike Huckabee is not “conservative”. Guess he spent too much money building roads in Arkansas. (The process was annoying, but now quite impressive). The Politico picked up the story on Wednesday.
“…Limbaugh, who has previously offered warm words for Fred Thompson, appeared to be dissatisfied with at least three of the top GOP candidates.
In addition to Huckabee, he singled out John McCain for specific criticism, attacking the senator on immigration, campaign finance reform, interrogation and tax cuts.
"The idea that he’s a great conservative in this race is an affront to conservatives," Limbaugh said, accusing the media of "pushing McCain hard."
Limbaugh seemed to swipe at McCain, Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani, respectively, in responding to a caller about which candidate had true conservative bona fides.
"If our nominee is either not conservative and is pandering to the left trying to get some of their votes, or if our nominee is so afraid of his record that he’s relying on identity politics to get votes or if our nominee decides that the only way he can win is to go out and pick off some libs in the northeast and out in the west, it’s going to be a bloodbath," he predicted of the general election….”
I go back to one of my favorite hobbies when I’m bored. I love to take the words of Ronald Reagan and attribute them to GWB. It drives conservatives crazy – the comments I would get, and nasty email showing me how I was wrong about Bush and with those specific statements there is no possible way he could be conservative!
Dear Rush, you know all those little home-schooling kids who made phone calls for Huckabee today? They’re your base. They adore you. You are almost a god to them. And, what did you do – by trashing Huckabee, you trashed them.
How does it feel to be the biggest loser and take the conservatives down with you?
ROMNEY THE PLASTIC This brings me to one final comment: Why is it Romney can do anything he wants, pull any nasty tactic, spew any canard and he gets away with it. The conservative blog world is taking about that disgusting invasion of privacy by Townhall today with Ed Rollins’ lunch. He is the bad guy for trash talking Romney, but Romney can get away with anything. He is using that whole LDS excuse to the point where I’m sick of it. Maybe he is losing, not because he is a Mormon but because he is a slick, slimy, plastic GOP version of John Kerry. He’s also a coward, hiding behind the considerable historical presence of Brigham Young. He ought to be ashamed.
I’d vote for Orin Hatch in a minute. He’s Mormon. It isn’t the religion, it is the candidate.
ONE FINAL QUESTION How does David Beasley always managing to end up buddies with so many celebs?
