AS STUPID DOES
I am so sick and tired of this I could scream. Just look at Drudge and you will see the big banner about Hillary and McCain being close friends. Then this evening I listen to Bay Buchanan bad mouth McCain and Hannity go along with it. The Conservative MSM refuses to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth about McCain and his tax record, then become hysterical became he criticizes Mitt Romney. Rush Limbaugh is making a you know what of himself constantly denigrating John McCain. He tries to destroy Mike Huckabee. Hugh Hewitt, Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and all their little associates pile on.
What is going on here? When did Conservatives start behaving this way? This is something new. I’ve been following politics my entire life and have NEVER seen Republicans behave this way.
CONSERVATIVES BEHAVING STUPIDLY
It’s too bad our celeb talk show pendants can’t take a page from Michael Medved and behave like civil adults. But I think that’s the problem, behaving like adults. His marvelous commentary today castigates them. The problem is they’ve reached the point of narcissistic arrogance where only their desires matter.
“The obnoxious term “RINO” stands for “Republican In Name Only” and suggests that those who draw the designation aren’t loyal to the party; they identify with the GOP only for convenience or personal advantage, not out of conviction or commitment. It is with great sadness that I therefore report that some prominent conservative commentators, who threaten to withhold support from the party’s nominee if their candidates don’t win top spot on the ticket, now deserve the dreaded label “RINO.”… A threat to quit the party, or “sit this one out” if you don’t get your way, undermines any future claims of loyalty or leadership. A big movement deserves big leaders (like Reagan), not childish sulkers. As with the kid who threatens to hold his breath if his mom refuses to give in, the current tantrums will no doubt pass. The hysterics must eventually take a deep breath and, before long, begin to think more clearly.”…”
The Anchoress continues to be a voice of reason. Her profile of GHWB is moving and beautiful. Oh, I forgot, he’s not a real conservative, either. I guess his son is in good company then.
The Opinionated Catholic is also dealing with this morass today.
“…President Bush has never surprised me. He is, in essentials, the man he ever was. It does not surprise me that he is a Christian man living a creed before he is a President, that he is a President before he is a Conservative. It seems to me precisely the right order of things.
You don’t have to agree with everything President Bush does; I don’t. But he deserves a lot better than he’s getting from his own side. He deserves, dare I say it, a spirit of compromise and workability, as opposed to the hard-line demand for a “perfect” solution (one which will never pass congress) to a problem no one else in government has even dared to address….”
As usual, the Queen of Mean is at it again, this time she has decided to destroy Juan Hernandez.
Can this woman become any nastier and any uglier. We all know she is taking her talking points from NumbersUSA and FAIR (FAIR having been declared an official “hate group” – and that’s putting it nicely).
Lee Cary in The American Thinker wrote this morning:
“…All in all, Latino voters will be treated to a relentless, scaled-down version of the Diary of Anne Frank where they, by their ethnic association with illegal migrants, become victims, too. The intent will be to pull the emotional strings of the targeted audience -- Latino citizens registered to vote -- against anything Republican. This approach will enjoy considerable success….”
HELL HATH NO FURY
Peggy Noonan is at it again, this time declaring that GWB has destroyed the GOP. Captain Ed takes her to task, mentioning that the legislative branch has done a very good job imploding the GOP.
“…It may be fashionable for Republicans to cast all blame on the President, but that falsely absolves those who created the problems that plague us at the moment. It may also sound rhetorically spectacular to declare the party "destroyed" by having its constituent coalitions debate about its direction, but it's both inaccurate and hyperbolic. It's not unusual for parties to have these debates -- and maybe if we'd had it in 2000, we would have elevated leaders more supportive of traditional Republican fiscal discipline rather than just blindly supported the people who threw that legacy in the wastebin….”
Captain Ed Morrissey is a man. As a straight male he is completely clueless about Ms Peggy’s motives. As such, the poor thing is clueless. Peggy Noonan’s vitriol against George W. Bush has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with conservative policy and everything to do with a woman’s scorn. She is acting like a vindictive witch who is out to screw (figuratively) the man who done her wrong. This is personal with her. Never, ever forget that Hell Hath No Fury…well, when it comes to Peggy Noonan, this is 100% true.
“…This is absurd. George W. Bush destroyed the Republican Party, by which I mean he sundered it, broke its constituent pieces apart and set them against each other. He did this on spending, the size of government, war, the ability to prosecute war, immigration and other issues….”
Peggy Noonan acts toward George W. Bush the way the brainy teenager acts when her boyfriend dumps her for the cute, bubbly captain of the high school cheerleader squad. The 411 is that Ms Noonan worked as a volunteer for GWB in 2004. She abruptly left and went to the WSJ thereafter. By the Inauguration she was on GWB’s case, and it was personal. Her pathetic rantings are those of a woman who has been done wrong. She acts like she had a crush on him and, well, we all know the character of GWB. Frankly, it’s disgusting, and growing more and more so every week.
MOST LIKE REAGAN
I hate to break this to you, but John McCain may be the candidate most like Reagan, according to Peter J. Wallison in The Spectator
“…The Reagan coalition is still out there, a majority of Americans -- Republicans, Democrats, and Independents -- who believe that the size of government and its role in the economy should be reduced. Through the aggressive use of the veto pen, McCain has promised restore this essential element of Reagan's vision. Why should disaffected conservatives believe this? Because John McCain is like Ronald Reagan in the most significant respect of all: he is an authentic person, not a confection designed by consultants. Reagan, as his diary shows (as if we needed further proof), wanted to be president for a purpose -- as a real person would -- not simply to hold the office. He had a consistent and firmly held set of views that he intended to pursue as president. McCain's straight talk is popular because it's the way real people talk to one another, not the coddling way today's politicians present themselves to us. So when John McCain said, after his victory in South Carolina, that he was a foot soldier in the Reagan revolution and is running for president "not to be something, but to do something" he was making clear that on a range of issues -- from defending the nation to reducing the size of government -- he would bring a new vitality to the Reagan revolution.”
SANTORUM'S SECRET SHAMEFrom The Weekly Standard – Stephen F. Hayes
“…Add them up, the critics argue, and you have John McCain, the Anti-Conservative. "McCain is not only not conservative enough," writes David Limbaugh, Rush's brother, "he has also built a reputation as a maverick by stabbing his party in the back--not in furtherance of conservative principles but by betraying them." Like so many McCain critics, Limbaugh turned to former Senator Rick Santorum--"whose conservative credentials are beyond question"--as an expert witness. "I don't hardly agree with him on hardly any issues," Santorum said. Really? Santorum's lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is 88. John McCain's is 82.3. One would suppose there might be some overlap. The difference between a real conservative and a phony one apparently lies in those six points….Although many others have been as critical of McCain, perhaps no one has been as hypocritical. In 2006, when Santorum was running for reelection, he asked McCain to come to Pennsylvania to campaign on his behalf. When McCain obliged, Santorum put the video on his campaign website, listing it first among "key events" of the year. That's gratitude, Santorum-style. Other conservative politicians--or former politicians--have taken their anti-McCain arguments to absurd lengths. Take Tom DeLay, for instance, whose K Street pandering led to numerous indictments and contributed greatly to the Republican losses in 2006. The former House majority leader said, without a trace of irony in his voice, that John McCain "has done more to hurt the Republican party than any elected official I know of." Mark Levin, a longtime confidant of both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity who now hosts his own increasingly popular talk show, took the anti-McCain argument a step further on his show last Wednesday. "At this point, anybody who supports John McCain and claims to be a conservative, let me be blunt: You're not a conservative."
From My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Beth is shredding Rick Santorum. (BTW – Didn’t he lose his last election?)
The Opinionated Times is also fighting back against irrational conservatives. American Power
WHO DESTROYED THE GOP
James Joyner at Outside the Beltway joins the chorus of those who are pondering the question: Who Destroyed the GOP? I think one thing is quite clear, someone is giving someone anti-McCain talking points for the day.
Who destroyed the GOP? That’s easy. Conservatives have done so. When you have people so full of hate on one single issue, such is immigration and when you adopt an agenda like this, you absorb something of the vileness of it. I always go back to What Would Jesus Do? As a Christian, my bottom line is the Sermon on the Mount. The people who are here illegally are the very least of them – the ones Christ says we do unto him the way we do unto them.
BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS
I think right now, dear Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and anyone associated with John Tanton’s NumbersUSA and FAIR all have the blood of 2 month old Edgar Castorena on their hands. He died last summer of a ruptured intestine that was treatable, but his parents were so terrified of seeking medical help there in Tulsa that they waited until it was too late and the infant died. Even worse, baby Edgar WAS A NATURAL BORN AMERICAN CITIZEN. But, because of the climate of hate and intimidation that now permeates the state of Oklahoma, the child is dead. You’re not going to hear Michelle Malkin wax poetic over the death of little Edgar. He was a non-person, his parents illegal so what-ever happened to him was simply retribution for them being here illegally. Should we treat these people humanely?
