RUSH, REAGAN AND REASON

“And just to set the record straight, let me say this about our friends who are now Republicans but who do not identify themselves as conservatives: I want the record to show that I do not view the new revitalized Republican Party as one based on a principle of exclusion. After all, you do not get to be a majority party by searching for groups you won’t associate or work with. If we truly believe in our principles, we should sit down and talk. Talk with anyone, anywhere, at any time if it means talking about the principles for the Republican Party. Conservatism is not a narrow ideology, nor is it the exclusive property of conservative activists…”

RUSH NOW HATES NEWT & MAC

Newt Gingrich has had the obscene audacity  to be the first “Big” conservative to openly state that the Reagan Revolution is dead and buried.  Since Rush Limbaugh god has staked his entire career on the fawning, preening, devotion to a man who really didn’t care all that much for that kind of posturing, Newt’s defection to the ‘enemy’ is a major body blow.  He is fighting back and taking his little NRO friends with him, such as Katherine Jean Lopez who wouldn’t know how to think if conservatives did not point her the right way and spoon food their pabulum to her.  If that sounds cruel, I’m sorry.  I’m tired of her sort of Lemming Conservative marching lock-step with the multi-millionaire talk show hosts, leading what are now brain-dead Lemming Conservative followers around by the nose. I’ve had it. I am no longer amused by all the little Lemmings at NRO, etc. having their love-in kissie-face congratulations that then filter down through all the little Lemming Blogs.  It’s getting old.  So, Lemming Lopez, writes about Lemming Steyn  swearing his unfailing fealty to Limbaugh god.  Once Newt Gingrich was the chosen Crown Prince of Conservatives, but no longer.  He’s now been cast down to earth, a little like The Great Satan (John McCain) who was once an archangel and thrown out of heaven when he and his followers (Lindsey Graham) rebelled against god (Limbaugh)And, low and behold, Lemming Blog Let Freedom Ring, has a blow by blow of the whole cataclysmic fight that threatens to render asunder the very pillars of heaven.

Tom Delay is on the McCain Bad  The Great Satan Conservative Bandwagon.

LIMBAUGH god SPEAKS:
When god speaks, we must all stand at rapt attention.  We must surrender our brains and let him spoon feed his great and august words into our hollow brains.  We are only to think what god and his minions want us to think.  If we dare think for ourselves, we will be cast out, alongside John McCain The Great Satan and his followers (Lindsey).  Frankly, I’d rather be an outcast.
Hear the words of Limbaugh god.
“…I mean, is there a Gingrich coalition that has replaced the Reagan coalition? For that matter, what is the McCain coalition? If we’re going to have a new era, what is the McCain era? What is the Huckabee era? What is their winning coalition? They don’t have one. You know, all this sounds like Third Way kind of talk, the triangulation of the Clinton years in the nineties. But I don’t know what the McCain era would be, and I don’t know what the Huckabee coalition is. They don’t have a coalition. They’re out trying to get votes of independents and Democrats. They’re pandering to moderates and independents. Folks, I just want you to think about this: What happens if either of these two guys happen to win, attracting the votes of independents, moderates, the Jell-Os, and Democrats? Does that not equal the demise of the Republican Party? Do you think McCain’s out there actually trying to get Republican votes? Is Huckabee trying to get Republican votes? Romney is. Giuliani is. Fred Thompson certainly is. But if we have a nominee that is a nominee on the basis of moderate and independent and Democrat voters, then what happens to the Republican Party?...”

Thanks be to Limbaugh god!

P. S. Limbaugh god is now so irrational when it comes to John McCain The Great Satan, I expect to see him shave his head, get a tattoo on his little tushie, and start running around with Brittany.  Before it’s over, (and this is what really bothers me) Rush is going to destroy himself, and that’s sad.  You don’t constantly attack decent Republicans the way he attacks Mac The Great Satan & Lindsey and not have it hurt you.

Debra Sanders, in her Townhall column, basically chastises the ‘conservatives’ for the way they are treating John McCain The Great Satan.
“Rush Limbaugh launches daily rants against John McCain. Fellow conservative radio talk-show host Laura Ingraham dismissed the Arizona senator on Wednesday as the Democrats favorite Republican. Hugh Hewitt blogged on Townhall.com that a vote for McCain is a vote for an old warrior way past his prime and the prospect of three debates against Barack Obama in which the age and energy gap goes unremarked upon while devastatingly obvious. A washed-up old warrior? McCain deserves more respect for risking his life in Vietnam and enduring five years in a Vietnamese POW camp, as he refused his captors offer to free him. Of course, engaged Republicans have a right to criticize McCain on the issues -- but they go too far, and they are sabotaging their partys chances in November….”

HOW CONSERVATIVES WILL WIN
Way over a year ago I emailed one of our RNC officials that the problem with a Giuliani candidacy was the fact that while he was the one who could win a general election (same holds true with McCain The Great Satan) he would probably not be able to make it through the mind-field that is the conservative control of the primaries.  Jay Cost
writes the same thing at the WSJ today about John McCain The Great Satan.
“…Before I get into this, I need to clarify a common misconception. Many people wrongly assume that average voters are as ideological as party leaders (broadly defined to include elected party members, prominent personalities in the party, and ideologues on op-ed pages and in opinion journals). They are not. In fact, the highest estimate I have seen for the percentage of the public that thinks ideologically is 30%. And many of those people think in an effectively ideological manner--e.g., they use the information they get from trusted opinion makers to formulate opinions on interrelated issues….”

Unfortunately this 30% is the group that dominates GOP primaries as voters and as delegates.  The way the whole GOP party system from the ground up is created, these 30% have a tremendous advantage over the majority simply because they are activists.  This brings me to another problem I’ve addressed in the past.  Until the rank and file GOP become active, we are going to continue to be dominated by the far right, ideologues who are proving they cannot win majorities.

While McCain The Great Satan is the best choice for a GOP win in the fall, conservatives like Limbaugh god absolutely detest him and are going to do their very best to make sure he loses the nomination.  Fortunately South Carolina is one of the most conservative states in the country, and it is counter-balanced by being an open primary and the fact that Hillary Clinton is absolutely detested by the average male in the state.  Conservatives do dominate, but not in such sheer numbers as they do in South Carolina.  The CofCC style of conservative is strong in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina.  They are also a presence in the other southern states.  Once outside of those states, rational thought begins to kick in.  Even though Limbaugh's god's acolytes and the rank and file far right conservative talk show hosts, bloggers, and pundits think McCain The Great Satan cannot possibly win outside of SC because of Independents, just looking at the final SC numbers the Opinionated Catholic links from CNN could prove slightly problematic for Limbaugh god conservatives.

The big problem, though is the fact that someone like Rush Limbaugh god is basically irrational in his abject hatred of John McCain The Great Satan.  It seems to me that there is something basically unethical the way the man is allowed to continually use his multi-million listener radio show as a platform to basically do everything he can to destroy anyone he hates.  While I do admit it is amusing when the target is a Democrat or a liberal, it isn’t funny when the target is a good decent Republican like John McCain
The Great Satan or Lindsey Graham.  I’m sorry but this is just plain immoral.

I wish there was a way to reason with Limbaugh over this but the more he is criticized the more outrageous his behavior becomes.  It’s one thing for a liberal to attempt to destroy our Republicans.  It another when that person is “conservative” with so much influence.

I will say it outright.  What Rush Limbaugh is doing to John McCain
The Great Satan is just plain evil. He should be ashamed of himself. He has a right to do it, but enough is enough.  I just wish Republicans and conservatives would do what I have done.  Turn off the radio until Limbaugh listens to reason.  Once Limbaugh has destroyed McCain The Great Satan he will turn his guns on Giuliani.  Then, he has basically handed the 2008 election to the Democrats, and this benefits Limbaugh and his ongoing bottom line of having a Democratic Administration in power to rail against.

It’s just plain perfect – for Limbaugh.

I think Michael Medved has said it best…
“…   In this context, McCain’s leadership towers over the misguided and mean-spirited media mob that questions his conservative credentials. In terms of stature and straight-talk, the Senator from Arizona will be remembered as a hero, patriot and legislative leader long after everyone’s forgotten about some shrill radio shouter.  Whether or not he wins in South Carolina on Saturday, and whether or not he goes on to claim the nomination, McCain’s already earned his place in history. Yes, he’s earned respect for his conservatism but, even more than that, for his courage….”
(thanks Sally Vee)

If Victor Davis Hanson has noticed the malice, it must be bad.
“…Republican Fratricide
After reading most of the McCain  animus on conservative blogs, I’m a little worried that some of it goes over the top. Specifically, I am confused about statements on NRO where I write, suggesting that stopping pork barrel spending won’t improve a single American life or that McCain’s  surge support is exaggerated….”

As Bill Kristol says in the Weekly Standard
“Beyond the normal human frailties that affect all of us, including undoubtedly the commentators at this journal, there is one error that is distorting much conservative discussion of the presidential race. It's -Reagan nostalgia. It's foolish to wait for another Ronald Reagan. But not just because his political gifts are rare. There's a particular way in which Reagan was exceptional that many of us fail to appreciate: He was the only president of the last century who came to the office as the leader of an ideological movement….”

NOTE:  I've used a bit of sarcasm in this piece, crossing out John McCain's name and replacing it with The Great Satan, and doing the same with Rush Limbaugh, replacing his with god.  The rhetoric has reached the point where conservatives have become completely irrational.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

THE BEGINNING OF THE END?
I’ve been telling you it was coming.  Well, maybe it has and maybe it hasn’t.  All I know is the fact that once cornered, these people are going to get nasty, really nasty.  I fear people like Rush are going to do everything in their power to destroy John McCain.

I think Michael Medved says it best

“…For more than a month, the leading conservative talkers in the country have broadcast identical messages in an effort to demonize Mike Huckabee and John McCain. If you’ve tuned in at all to Rush, Sean, Savage, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager, and two dozen others you’ve heard a consistent drum beat of hostility toward Mac and Huck. As always, led by Rush Limbaugh (who because of talent and seniority continues to dominate the medium) the talk radio herd has ridden in precisely the same direction, insisting that McCain and Huckabee deserve no support because they’re not “real conservatives…

Well, the two alleged “liberals,” McCain and Huckabee just swept a total of 63% of the Republican vote in deeply conservative South Carolina. Meanwhile, the two darlings of talk radio -- Mitt Romney and, to a lesser extent, Fred Thompson—combined for an anemic 31% of the vote.

How conservative was the electorate that cast ballots on Saturday (in a big, ehtusiastic turnout despite inclement weather)? Exit polls showed 69% of GOP voters described themselves as “conservative” (as opposed to “liberal” or “moderate.”) Among those self-styled conservatives, an overwhelming 61% went for Mac and Huck; only 35% for Mitt and Fred). …

In other words, even among the most right wing segment of the South Carolina electorate, talk radio failed – and failed miserably – in efforts to destroy and discredit Huckabee and McCain….”
