GOOD, BAD, OR UGLY?

THE GOOD

(note:  This post created with the busy assistance of a 4 month old delinquent attack kitten.)

Kudos to Greg at Rhymes with Right for standing up for John McCain even if he doesn’t support  him.

The best mailer I’ve seen is so darn pro-life it brings tears to the eyes.

It’s funny how stress brings out the best and the worst of people.  Right now I think we are living in the best of political times and the very worst of political times. In many ways I don’t know how to judge the political interest in the primaries because I am such a political junkie.  I did have lunch with a friend who hinted at an intervention if I did not surface more than twice a week.  I can’t imagine anyone not being swept up into this, but evidently people like me are the rare ones.  I’ve been emailing back and forth to Sally Vee and Steve Maloney for much of the day.  Judging from their reaction to the past 24 hours, my thoughts aren’t far off the mark.

The worst part of it is the abject lack of “Fair and Balanced” displayed by FOX last night.  They were so giddy for a McCain defeat that they really did him a disservice. Fortunately this evening O’Reilly made up for it.  There are several versions of the story, having Huckabee taking forever to spike McCain out of his TV time, and the other blaming Romney.  I’m not sure, but it was rather tacky, that’s for sure.

Then the usual conservative sources are doing their usual thing.  I think that is one of the reasons to attempt and get people to pledge to be have better.  I’m also going to be taking some time, as necessary, to point out who is behaving and who is being nice.  Greg with Rhymes with Right wins the nice prize today.  There were so many naughty little twerps today, I’m not going to bother.

THE BAD (or THE BRATTY)?

I am tired of harping on Mitt Romney and his actions.  If he is the nominee I will hold my nose and vote for him, but there are so many things I do not like about him including the fact that he will do just about anything to win, the way it looks to me.  Maybe I’m just too critical, but I don’t like what I see.  I think last night, when he screwed John McCain, it was the final straw.  Naturally Hot Air  is trying to make McCain look bad, but from what I heard last night, Romney’s people did screw  him.   We need to also note that the co-ordination of the speeches last night was pathetic and I think the RNC dropped the ball there. The whole idea is to give our candidates as much exposure as possible, so why didn’t the RNCGOP STEP IN on this?   Almost immediately after I wrote this, I received an email from Sally Vee with some new information.  It seems Mike Huckabee is to blame and not McCain.  The McCain people are furious and blaming Romney.  There is no love lost between the two campaigns.   McCain’s camp sent out a mailer the other day that doesn’t quite pass the smell test. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/mccains_misleading_mailer.html

THE UGLY

WHO IS SMEARING MCCAIN
TPM has picked up the disgusting smear against McCain in SC. The person who is pushing this one has been after McCain for years.   The 2000 smear. Someone in SC is push-polling for Mike Huckabee.  The Palmetto Scoop has the information.   The Truth Squad is on the job.  These guys need Super-Hero costumes!  And more – the whole sordid story.

ROMNEY’S FREE PASS
The question for me is how long Romney can stand up under scrutiny, and the fact that his opponents can’t afford the kind of publicity needed to expose his duplicity and some questionable connections, such as the one Israel Matzav comments on today. David Frum brings up something I’ve wondered.  Why is Romney getting a free pass from conservatives over his economic plans in Michigan.  It is nothing but liberal big government.  Yet all they do is castigate McCain.
“…This is what people like to call "industrial policy," and what Jonah Goldberg likes to call liberal fascism - big business and big government working hand-in-glove for the purposes of economic nationalism. It's "sustained and detailed," all right, just as Frum says - a sustained and detailed infringement on free-market principle, and one that appeals to voters in places like Michigan precisely because it goes much further to the left than Mike Huckabee's substance-free talk about how the current period of economic growth isn't doing all that well by the working class, or John McCain's straight talk about how Michiganders can't expect the federal government to bring back the glory days of Chrysler and GM. But because conservatives spend way, way more time worrying about the specter of "class warfare" than they do about than the nexus between big business and the Republican Party, Romney gets off with a mild slap on the wrist, while McCain and Huckabee get tarred as liberals. I'm overstating the case a bit, obviously; there a variety of good reasons, besides their response to Michigan's economic pain, why McCain and Huckabee have come by their crypto-liberal reputations. But the extent to which Romney is getting a free pass for his back-to-the-'70s, "D.C. will save the auto industry" promises , while conservatives are still obsessing over how John McCain's 2000-2001 preference for a more progressive tax code makes him a "class warrior," seems more than a little ridiculous….”

I am sick and tired of this infighting.  Supporting a candidate is one thing.  We all know all’s fair in love and politics, but things are getting out of hand.  I think it is time to take the pledge about defaming, defiling, and denigrating a REPUBLICAN candidate for any office.  Enough with the personal attacks, the unflattering photos, and epitaphs such as “Shamnesty”.

JUST WHERE IT HURTS

Instead of attacking his opponents, the new McCain ad goes straight to the heart of Hillary Clinton like a knife.
