ARE WE CREATING THE SAME PROBLEMS?
PART II:
On Monday I featured Part I of my question about the UK, Islamic extremism, and immigration. Today is the second part.
Do we have an Islamic problem in the US? I think we do. I also think our politically correct culture is keeping it under wraps. A perfect case in point is the recent Islamic violence against Christians in Kenya.

Yet unaccountably there was no mention of this key fact in the media coverage of the post-election violence. Well, fancy! In the Christian Post, this article, (which was picked up by Stephen Pollard) written before the disputed election which led to the violence, put events in a rather more accurate context. Raila Odinga, it said, who was then the current presidential frontrunner, had promised to implement strict Islamic Sharia law if he received the Muslim vote and was elected president. Odinga had signed a secret memorandum of understanding with Sheikh Abdullahi Abdi, chairman of the National Leaders Forum, in which Odinga had allegedly stated his intention, if elected, to ‘within six months, rewrite the Constitution of Kenya to recognize Sharia as the only true law sanctioned by the Holy Quran for Muslim declared regions’….”
NOTE: For those of you who do not think I criticize the Bush Administration, I’m proving you wrong on this one.
I think the 3rd worst thing the Bush Administration had done (1st worst – putting Michael Chertoff in Homeland Security, 2nd No Child Left Behind – but not for the conservative reasons, just talk to a teacher about it) is to keep up such a cheerful front about the face of militant Islam in the US. I think the worst part of ‘political correctness’ is the fact that the practitioners there-of absolve all minorities of barbaric behavior. The PC bunch goes out of its way to absolve anyone who might be a ‘minority’ of any responsibility for adverse behavior. PCness allows minorities to create enclaves and ‘ghettos’ and not assimilate into society. And by allowing this to happen our PC culture is tolerating intolerant behavior on the part of those they are protecting.
But – and here’s what I don’t understand. We do have a serious, and vastly understated problem with Islamic extremists here. Currently they are more like the gang who couldn’t shoot straight, but eventually they will get lucky. When this happens, will we see a back-lash against Islam in this country? I truly hope not. I truly hope my very moderate Moslem friends are not treated as badly as are Hispanics in some parts of this country.
I have some very dear friends who are moderate and liberal Moslems. I do fear for them and for the way they could be treated by nativists in this country, BUT, because they are Moslem, they are a protected minority. Our Political Correct culture (even far far far right conservatives) demand immigrants who are Moslem (they can be from any nation) be treated with respect. They are given every advantage. They are welcome with open arms. All we ask is just a tiny little bit of assimilation, but wouldn’t dare even comment upon a woman from a Moslem back ground covering her head. It is her culture and her religion. Be respectful. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t teaching their two year old kid only Hindi. The kid will pick up English in nursery school. We call them family A.
Next door to the Moslem immigrant, say from India, is a Chicano family from California. They speak Spanish at home. Their teenage son has a low-rider with hot pink and purple neon under it. They are a loud, happy family on their way to middle class suburbia. They are devout Catholics, with a small shrine to the Blessed Lady of Guadeloupe in their front yard – along with a half dozen cars or trucks. The bread-winner has a small construction business. They are family B.
Living on the other side is family C. The divorced mother of three is an immigrant from Germany. She married an American GI, moved to the US, and sailed into her citizenship. She has a small coffee shop. She is a staunch conservative. She does not go to church. She takes up with a younger man, sets him up in a business, then manipulates him with her abject dislike of anything Hispanic.
Family A & B get along great. Mommy B wants to stay at home and open a small beauty shop in her home. Mommy A wants to go back to work. Her Green Card has finally been approved. She has several excellent job offers, but needs someone to look after Baby A. Mommy B, along with Grandmother B are delighted to take in the little tyke. After all, they’ve been there since Mommy A and Daddy A were married, just waiting for the baby to come along. Daddy B even recommends newly arrived Brother-in-law A for a job as a front desk receptionist at a local motel where he was doing some renovations. Everyone is happy. Brother-in-law A does not have a Green Card and never mentions it. He is paid under the table. No one bothers to check his identification. He’s from India. His family is respectable, his brother-in-law a US citizen. People from India do not stay here illegally.
Neighbor C needs some work done on her coffee shop, where the roof leaks like a sieve. She is having problems financially. Neighbor B, being a good guy offers to give her a break on the construction, which she accepts readily. Once Neighbor B is on site with his small crew of relatives, “C” demands that they stop speaking Spanish. They are in the United States. She did not make the same demands of Neighbor A when he and his illegal brother in law were installing her new computer system. She demands to see the working papers of everyone, including Neighbor B who has lived next door to her for 10 years. Until he can produce papers for everyone, those workers who don’t have papers will not be allowed inside her business, even to use the restroom. She provides coffee and goodies for everyone who has produced papers. The following day when Neighbor B’s cousin has still not produced anything to please her, she calls ICE to have him deported. Because Neighbor B is trying to give her a break, he continues with his job, not knowing that ICE is heading over to his home office to raid it.
ICE breaks into Neighbor B’s home in the middle of the night, US marshals holding the entire family at gun-point. Before he can even produce his records, he is arrested. Fortunately they are very good friends with one of the top criminal defense attorneys in the entire country, so ICE is forced to back off and leave them alone because everything and every employee is legal. Cousin B is arrested and held in detention until his wife, who had been hospitalized, can produce his papers. The local sheriff who is holding Neighbor B forgets to release him, and to allow him access to his insulin. As a result he loses a leg and eventually dies.
Neighbor C is hailed as a heroine for daring to expose illegal immigration in her neighborhood. Brother in law A finally gets his Green Card and lives happily ever after.
Fiction?
The following is a combination of four stories. Aside from Cousin B, which is bases on an incident that occurred in the Maricopa County Lock-up where Sheriff Joe’s jailers refused to allow a woman access to her insulin, resulting in her eventual death, everything else occurred to people I either know or know of. Neighbor C is based on one of the leading anti-immigration leaders in the country. She actually called to have the workers of someone who was doing work for her for free, deported. While I do not know her personally, I’ve met her a time or two and have had the story related to me from two different sources, both trustworthy.
The point? Today, nativists are giving immigrants from every country EXCEPT Mexico a break. If a person is from a Mexican or Chicano background, speaks Spanish, and embraces his/her culture, they are suspect. The woman I was referring to in the above paragraph demands to see identification of anyone who is Hispanic that she encounters. She also does the same for any other person who is not “American”, but especially targets Hispanics.
Segue
If the spread of Islam is a cultural problem where the mindset of Islam demands complete and total conquest, and their aim is the conquest of the West, the only hope for our American civilization is large scale Hispanic immigration from the Catholic nations, especially Mexico. This is even clearer to me today than it was even yesterday.
There is this misplaced nativist bottom-line view that the border with Mexico is a race track for terrorists who want only to destroy us. The problem with this scenario is the fact that, to date, there has been no DOCUMENTED proof that this has occurred. There are rumors and innuendo, but nothing to date has been documented. Yet, anti-immigration activists demand that southern border be sealed, once for all, no matter how many American land-owners are forced off their property, and who gives a rip about the environmental disaster it will bring. They’re conservative. They don’t give a damn about the environment. We have a serious problem with drug incursions over the border. This can be handled with better policing and working to help the government of Mexico with the problem. If we put the same effort into helping Mexico with its drug problem that we did with Columbia, we could put a huge dent in the trafficking of drugs. The problem is the fact that this is not being done at all.
Also missing in the demand for tough measures on the Mexican border is the fact that the Canadian border is wide open, twice as long, much more accessible and Canada has a policy of allowing just about anyone into the country who claims persecution. To date, the ‘terror’ that has been tracked over the Border has come across the Canadian border.
Why aren’t our anti-immigration nativists demanding a wall to be built along the Canadian border, and tough sanctions be taken against Canada? Could it be the fact that we perceive Canadians to be WHITE, and ENGLISH SPEAKING? Is it because we think of Canada as our ‘sister’ nation and Mexico as the illegitimate child at our family reunion?
If we are going to allow Moslem immigrants in this nation to keep their customs and their life style and not complain about it, why are anti-immigration activists demanding Hispanics speak English only?
We are at more risk from hard-line Islamic incursions into our society bring with them their barbaric rituals such as honor killings and female circumcision than we are the Chicano family who wants a CHRISTIAN shrine in their front yard. Why aren’t nativists spotlighting the problems in communities other than Hispanic.
This is how the severe Islamic cultural problems in Europe had their genesis. Society was far to willing to be politically correct and give them a pass. No one bothered to comment on the barbarism of forcing a woman to cover her head or wear a burka. The same thing is happening here. We are demanding the Hispanic culture completely sanitize themselves of things that are family and Christian oriented, yet we give the Islamic community in Dallas a pass for turning a blind eye on the abuse of Americanized teenage daughters.
The Hispanic culture is going to be our nation’s salvation. The Islamic culture its undoing.
