PROOF CONSERVATIVES HAVE CHANGED

One of my constant themes is the way conservatives have changed.  Today’s conservative is yesterday’s babbling John Bircher.  Reagan conservatives laughed at those people.  Once upon a time I was a Reagan Conservative.  Today, I am “moderate”.  Have I changed?  No.  Someone must have changed, so it must be conservatives.  I think the best gage of this is the way they are now turning on Bob Inglis.

When I was Chairman of the Oconee County GOP back in the mid-1990’s and Bob Inglis was running for the 4th District the same time Lindsey was running for the 3rd, Inglis was much more conservative than Lindsey, who was conservative.  Funny thing, though.  Now neither one of them are considered “conservative” by the ultra conservatives.  Take Andre Bauer, the Lt. Governor of SC.  He just can’t figure out who he wants to run against in the primaries. Gresham is evidently going to go for a run at the governor’s office in 2010 and evidently Bauer can’t swing a big “W” there.  So, he’s going to attempt a run for a different office.

"Defeating popular Republican incumbents is always a challenge, as (Bauer) discovered with his own primary challenge," Ayres said. "Both Bob Inglis and Lindsey Graham retain broad bases of support in South Carolina, despite the grousing from some elements of the party ... We are not talking about people who squeaked into office. We're talking about people who won the nomination of their party overwhelmingly."

Tim Carnes, of Greenville, is running against Graham. A few other names have been bandied about the state.

Evidently Bob Inglis, who was probably the most conservative elected official in the state in 1995 isn’t conservative enough.  Something is wrong here, and it isn’t with Bob Inglis.  Evidently Tim Carnes is a “True Conservative” (read Ron Paul supporter – from what I’ve been told).

He believes firmly that it is time the people of South Carolina are represented by an average citizen with common sense, strong conservative and moral values, and a backbone to stand firm, rather than someone attempting to be a liberal pacifier. Lindsey Graham prides himself on having been rated as a 90 % conservative. A 90 % conservative is a 10 % liberal and the voters of South Carolina are no longer satisfied with a part time conservative Senator….” 

A MINI RANT
I guess Carnes doesn’t know much about Ronald Reagan who once said if someone voted with you 80% of the time he was not the enemy.

I’ve also been informed, by a very reliable source within the SC GOP that indeed the Ron Paul supporters are the ones after Lindsey. 

Things have changed.  Gresham is far more conservative than he was when I worked with him back in the mid-1990’s.  I would love to know what has changed. 

WHEN SPECIAL INTERESTS TURN HATEFUL

Who had it in for Lindsey?  SC Hotline has links to this piece of garbage about Lindsey. I don’t think it is the nastiest thing I’ve seen to date.  It is ugly, but then again, things are getting very ugly out there. 

You gotta love this new breed of conservative.  Tammy Bruce, ultra conservative talk pundit is standing up for Larry Craig, fine.  She is a lesbian and is dealing with from that end.  She is also complaining about gay bloggers who are single issue people and the desire to take out Craig.  BUT she wants to get rid of Lindsey over immigration.  I thought she did not approve of getting rid of someone over a single issue!  I’m having a hard time with the Craig thing.  I don’t see any way out of it. All I am going to say about the whole Craig thing today is that it is absolutely tragic.  I just don’t see anything good coming out of all of this. I just see something horrible coming out of it before it’s all over. 

CONSERVATIVES ARE AGAINST
Conservatives are against Fred Thompson.  Richard Vaiguerie has this thing against Thompson.  He’s in good company.  Vaiguerie has it in for GWB.  He also did everything he possibly could to undermine Reagan  when he was in office.  They are against Brownback.  Conservatives are against Giuliani.  They are against Romney.  But – NEW CONSERVATIVES are for ? There is a hall of shame.   This is disgusting. There is NOTHING REPUBLICAN about this site – or whoever is doing it has forgotten the 11th Commandment “Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of a Fellow Republican”.  Problem with sites like this is the fact that they have no earthly idea what it is to be a Republican.  Golly, there are even conservatives against Ron Paul!  The little weasels are even against the President!

But – what I find rather humorous is there is no “Conservatives Against John McCain!” and we all know how much Rush hates McCain!

A MINI RANT
One of the things that angers me the most about today’s new breed of the ultra I am right conservative is the fact that they think they are RIGHT about everything, no matter what.  Doesn’t matter.  There is no room for error, quarter, or logic.  And, when it comes to religion anything that remotely resembles Catholic, Anglican, or Episcopalian is PURE EVIL.  I’ve reached the point where it is becoming very offensive to this Episcopalian. 

The way conservatives now degrade others is to throw the “Liberal” epitaph at them.  If someone doesn’t march goose-step with them they defame them as liberal.  The Episcopal Church doesn’t do what they want, so it is “liberal”.  Funny thing, but I’ve never been in a more conservative church than the Episcopal.  We believe in First Century Christianity.  Yikes, sorry – that’s too liberal.  The Sermon on the Mount isn’t conservative at all!

Wake Up America then uses this quote to demonize any Christian or church who might feel that practicing the teachings of Christ is LIBERAL!
