CRAIG SHUDDA SWITCHED PARTIES
Have you noticed how the wind has been sucked out of the news? The only thing you are seeing on the news is the Larry Craig problem. Before I go any farther, and get into ramifications of it, I find it very suspicious that the news about Craig’s little problem came out late in the evening when everyone is discussing the Alberto Gonzales resignation.
Is there a coincidence in timing?
In today’s Political Diary, John Fund wrote:
“…Rumors
about Senator Craig's behavior have swirled around Washington for
literally decades, including after his marriage in the mid-1980s. His
name surfaced in 1982 as part of an FBI investigation of congressmen
alleged to have had illegal relations with male pages, a scandal that
eventually led to the censure of two congressmen….Just last October,
his office publicly called allegations by a gay man that the two had
had an encounter in a restroom at Washington's Union Station
"completely ridiculous." …Yes, Senator Craig will be treated
differently because he is a Republican. Yes, his behavior involved
nothing overtly sexual. But if he was innocent of soliciting someone in
a public place, he shouldn't have entered a guilty plea to behavior
that was beyond reckless and stupid…”
I do have a problem if there is some connection to the harassment of male pages, but if this is not true, then Earth to Conservatives – this is life, deal with it.
The Garance has stated that what occurred in that little men’s room in Minneapolis was not a crime. If so, then why the heck did Craig even accept a plea? Roger Simon
Let’s be upfront and honest here. Larry Craig’s greatest mistake was not switching parties not long after his ‘arrest’ for ‘lewd’ behavior. If he were a Dem, “Way to go!” and after the high-fives and a pat on the back, no problemo!
But, Larry Craig made the big mistake of being a “conservative” Republican, complete with all the hypocrisy and baggage that goes along with being a conservative Republican. Conservatives are against all ‘sin’ and must be perfect.
Do I approve of what allegedly may have occurred? No. But, it is life.
I don’t know about you but I’m getting sick and tired of all that perfection. I’m also getting sick and tired of all the anti-homosexual posturing and rhetoric by so-called “Christians”, conservatives and some Republicans that I think this is the last straw. Enough is enough. Homosexual men and lesbian women are hear to stay. They have always been here and always will. Grow up and deal with it. No matter how much you are going to protest, it isn’t going to change.
Faced with the intense logic of the fact that the above isn’t going to change, wouldn’t it be easier just to live and let live? I’m not talking about the in your face tackiness displayed by gay and lesbian activists but just living and letting people be people.
My friend Leroy thinks that men (especially) who are terribly anti-gay are doing so as a way to hide their own latent homosexual tendencies. Put it this way, he and Tom have just celebrated their 30th anniversary. Not only are they a stable and loving couple but they are now raising the three children who belong to their niece. And – they are darn lucky kids. I’ve learned a lot from my friends.
Have the rules between what is right and what is wrong been obscured? I don’t even know anymore. I’m not that wise. I’m also smart enough to know men who rail against gays are probably closeted and are railing against what they hate about themselves.
Maybe the problem is society is too demanding of our politicians, especially the “conservative” “Christian” Republican ones. We expect absolute perfection, which is the purvey of only one person in history. Why do we expect this perfection? Is it a false mirror image we are seeking - one where we know someone is more pure than are we? I wonder what the psychology of the whole thing is.
All I truly know is this is getting a bit old. People should be free to be who they are. A friend sent this article to me, (Hog on Ice) which funny yet sickening. There is something very tawdry, disgusting, yet heart-breakingly sad about these pick-up spots, Every town has one. Leroy was telling me where the one in Ruidoso is, and just WHO is WHO cruising it.
I think that’s what bothers me about the whole gay life-style. It also bothers me about the rank (and I use the word rank) heterosexual lifestyle of women who are little more than unpaid whores. I don’t like promiscuity. I don’t approve it. It’s for animals. We are humans who have minds that should allow us to know the difference from animal like rutting behavior and a little bit of restraint. I don’t know which is worse, the woman who does nothing but slut around like Mommy Cat in heat (not a pretty sight) or the insecure gay male who must go from one dangerous lesion to another.
Both life-styles are based on self-loathing and insecurity.
Why can’t we all just say no?
