MY EMAIL FROM SENATOR DOMENICI
This arrived today, in response to my comments about his proposals for Iraq.
“…Dear SJ:
Thank you for contacting me with regard to the involvement of the United States in Iraq. I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this important issue.
I am in complete support of our troops, who are doing a great job in Iraq and in the War on Terror, but the Iraqi government has failed badly in this Iraqi conflict. I am very concerned about the deteriorating conditions in Iraq and the failure of Iraqi government to make even modest progress in Iraq.
Consequently on July 5, 2007 I called for a new strategy in U.S. Military policy in Iraq. Additionally, according to the Initial Benchmark Assessment Report required by Congress and released on July 12, 2007, the Iraqi government has made satisfactory progress on less than half of the benchmarks established. I have carefully studied this report and the situation in Iraq and believe we cannot continue asking our troops to sacrifice indefinitely while the Iraqi government is not making measurable progress to move its country forward. It is the Iraqi government that is failing to make even modest progress to help its country and people or to merit the sacrifices being made by our men and women in uniform. For these reasons, I believe that our strategy in Iraq must change.
I do not support an arbitrary deadline for withdrawal from Iraq or a reduction in funding for our troops because I believe the War on Terror should not be micromanaged from the halls of Congress. I believe such actions would be irresponsible and endanger our troops, the region, and our nation. However, I do support a new strategy in Iraq that will move our troops out of combat operations and on the path to coming home. I believe our new strategy should be based on the recommendations of bi-partisan Iraq Study Group (ISG). That is why I have cosponsored S. 1545, the Iraq Study Group Recommendations Implementation Act of 2007.
S. 1545 makes the Iraq Study Group recommendations the official policy of the United States. These recommendations include new military, political, and diplomatic initiatives. One such recommendation that I strongly agree with is a change in the primary mission of U.S. forces in Iraq, which would transition troops from direct combat to support roles such as protecting U.S. personnel and infrastructure; training, equipping and advising Iraqi security forces; and conducting counterterrorism operations, search and rescue missions and special operations.
It is time for the Iraqi government to live up to its responsibilities toward establishing a self-sufficient and stable government, and I believe that implementing the recommendations of the ISG will move Iraq in that direction. I am hopeful that, as the ISG points out, "if the Iraqi government moves forward with national reconciliation, Iraqis will have an opportunity for a better future, terrorism will be dealt a blow, stability will be enhanced in an important part of the world, and America's credibility, interests, and values will be protected."
Please be assured that I will monitor developments regarding Iraq closely, and that I am proud of the courage and commitment of our troops. They are in the finest tradition of the American military and of American principles of freedom. Thank you for your thoughts on this difficult matter.
Sincerely,
Pete V. Domenici

Lindsey on the troop surge.
Why do nuclear accidents kill more brightly colored birds than others?
Science is just now discovering something historians have known for years – ancient Greenland was actually green!
Where did humans come from?
China’s dead zone.
Ron Paul is making a show in Iowa.
I truly hope Paul Broun does not win the GA-10 run-off. He is another one of those hot-head anti-immigration “conservatives” who wants to end birthright citizenship.
BANNING BLOGS
Atlas Shrugs has an important story today.
Jihad Watch banned in Chicago!
Gates of Vienna mentions problems too, esp. with Blogger. There are times when I cannot get the site to open.
GETS IT
Bookworm Blog gets it when it comes to the hyped Ramos/Compean.
CLUELESS
Malkin has begun her “Deport Them Now” campaign. That’s fine, there is nothing wrong with deporting people who are not American citizens who commit crimes. Fine. But she is grandstanding and shamelessly, and disgustingly manipulating the Zina Linnik horrific crime by turning it into an immigration issue.
Absolute Zero
A MINI RANT
I am so disappointed with Malkin over this. She could be doing truly incredible work helping fight pedophiles and demanding they be held accountable, but unfortunately her anti-immigration bigotry gets in the way. I don’t think I want criminal illegals deported. They will just be back. Keep them in prison here and bill their home country. And don’t say we can’t collect because we can.
I do not want pedophile illegal aliens deported. If they are deported they will simply rape and molest innocent children in their home countries. The only way to stop them is the only way to stop legal pedophiles in this country. LOCK ‘EM UP FOR THE REST OF THEIR UN-NATURAL LIVES!
The thing that disappoints me so much about this is the lack of feeling about people other than “Legal Americans”. Is a child in Mexico or, in this case, Thailand less important than one in the US? The issue isn’t about deporting illegal criminals (somehow that sounds like a contradiction in terms or something) but incarcerating, tagging, and spotting pedophiles.
What makes me so sad is the fact that people are more interested in deporting aliens than they are protecting children and turning all this legislative effort and ire into a fight to save the lives of children, legal, illegal, American, Mexican, Thai, and every other nationality.
LOCK PEDOPHILES UP FOR LIFE
ABOUT LAST NIGHT
This morning I was a little concerned about my Sun Myung Moon posting yesterday. Had I gone too far? Was I being duped?
I found this comment
“Moon claims his job as messiah was to raise up the Christian "right" for political power and bring the theocrats to power, they now control the Republican Party as evidenced by the line of Republican candidates going to Pat Robertson on bended knee. Moon has been wildly successful..
He spent billions doing this. He outspent anyone funding the rise of the right in the 80-s and 90s and he knew exactly what he was doing.
Moon rightfully brags about influencing America through the Washington Times and his other "activities."
US News and World Report stated in 1989 that by them virtually every conservative organization in DC had ties Moon's organization including the Heritage Foundation.
It goes on and on. We will never vote for Moon, he moves the big picture. His "activities" are designed to create a political climate for the views of people like Falwell and Lahaye who have been on the Moon dole, to thrive. Moon funds the people and organization who change the world or in th=si case our nation, little by little. He did it. I'm old enough to remember when the Republicans weren't homophobic authoritarian theocrats as they are today.
You say you see "conspiracy" theory out there. I suggest you are mostly finding fact and truth which you just don't know enough about and want to not believe.
Moon has more to do with the political direction of the USA over the 80, 90s than anyone. Without his billions, the world would have never suffered through Bush.
Moon has given over 3 million dollars to Bush family interests just since 43 took office. Bush 41 has traveled the world shilling for Moon.
BTW... Moon's money? A lot of it comes from swindling widows in Japan, that is what funded the rise of the right in America.

Moon has completely hijacked the media right in this country. The problem the becomes – who do you believe? The bottom line now is unless it comes out of a Murdock publication, I just plain old don’t believe it. The great irony of all of this is the fact that Sun Myung Moon owns most of the conservative publications in print and on the web. The humorously ironically wickedly ironic fact is the one conservative ‘publication’ I find most distasteful – World Net Daily, is not in Moon’s pockets. This is a far cry from News Max. http://conwebwatch.tripod.com/stories/2000/upi.html
How many of the fantastical claims are true? I have no earthly idea. I do know that Moon is duplicitous in the anti-immigration movement. That’s my interest.
