MISS PIGGY IS DYING
I talked to Megan this morning. Miss Piggy has taken a turn for the worse and is not expected to live. When they found her this morning, she was rolled up in a little ball, rigid. They have pumped medication into her, but there appears to be no response. By the time the blood work gets here from Univ of Col Vet school she may be dead. They know it is systemic and some sort of an infection. I am very upset and keep telling myself she’s just a kitten and not a child. UPDATED: I feel like an idiot being so upset over a kitten. I know there is little chance for her to survive. I’ve been back and forth this evening with the weekend vet, and finally talked to Megan. Piggy is rigid. She is cold, and having nerve problems. Dr. Turner wants to euthanize her immediately. I just want to wait for the tests from University of Colorado. What if there is something we could do and we’ve killed her? I just can’t do it. Dr. Franklin doesn’t think she is going to make it through the evening. I have turned her little life over to the Lord. If she is not to make it, he will keep her from suffering. Maybe my faith is simplistic, but for some strange reason I just can’t do anything else. Megan has made her as comfortable as possible. I was crying when I talked to her. She said she wouldn’t push me and understand my feelings. I called Rumsfeld’s godmother who is a pet person. She agreed with me about waiting for the tests. It isn’t that I can’t let the little angel go, it is the fact that not knowing what is going on is what truly bothers me. And so, that is where it stands for the day.
It has been several hours since I wrote that paragraph. I am more at peace about things. I know turning Piggy over to the Lord is the right thing to do. I’ve also learned that I do not like the idea of terminating a life. After this, I don’t know if I could “pull the plug”, so to speak.
One thing I definitely needed today. While I am doing putting the final edits on today’s blog I’m watching Caddyshack. I definitely needed the laugh.
THE GREAT VIRUS INFECTION
Norton 360 is something like my 19th different anti – what-ever program I have tried in a week. No other program – McAfee, AVG, etc. had picked it up. I knew we were heading to it. Trojan Vundo. So, now I am continuing the scan. I am still having a problem with Outlook, which has basically crashed thanks to all the dear people who are slamming me with pornographic trackback spams. It is looking better, but my fingers are still crossed!
TRACKBACK SPAM
Today I have been hit by nearly 700 pieces of trackback spam, most of it pornographic. Because of the timing of the spam, and the way it is coming in, I am absolutely convinced it is a direct attack on me and on the blog.
GEORGE W. BUSH
This is one of the finest commentaries I have seen about GWB.
“He's been called everything from Hitler to an ape. In between there have been accusations from public figures, some of them elected officials, that he is a liar, Alfred E. Neuman, an idiot, a drunk, a moron, Beelzebub, George bin Bush, a terrorist and a son of a bitch.
Compared to such terms of endearment, calling him a greedy oil man who has blithely sent American boys to die in Middle Eastern deserts so he and his cronies could reap the financial benefits is almost a compliment….
It would be hard to make a case that Bush has failed to restore the integrity that the office had lost under its predecessor. Many here and abroad disagree with his policies. That's their right, and they do it with a palpable venom. But the man has been as respectful of his critics as he has of his supporters — even the many critics who have savaged him like no other president.
… Last September, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, a man who has come fully unhinged by his hatred of Bush, snarkily asked of the president: "Do you have no sense of decency, sir?"
Yes, George Bush has a sense of decency, one far more developed than those held by his around-the-bend critics.”

Okay, the man’s blood is green, honest. Live long and prosper!
GLOBAL WARMING
The trials and tribulations of global warming. It is June 8 and 68 degrees here in Ruidoso. I am cold. Winds were clocked at 124 MPH in Louisville, near Denver. My cousin and her family live in Louisville. Considering the wind we have been having the past few days, I do not doubt it. The a summer snowstorm dumps nearly a foot of the white stuff in Wyoming.
I told you months ago if Algore did not shut up already yet about global warming, we were in for a very chilly summer.
CONSERVATIVES GONE MAD
Steve Taylor (Outside the Beltway) nails it with Coulter. How much longer must we put up with such… wait a minute, keep it up. You are only making yourself look bad.
Red State finally turns on Savage.
Blog Lizards on Hugh Hewitt’s lies about John McCain
AJ Strata has an excellent commentary about these people.
Sister Toldjah creams conservatives today. The problem is people need to re-boot their brains when it comes to “conservatives” and Republicans and need to understand there is a difference. If conservatives can’t stick with the GOP then they need to say so.
Let’s just face the act that the NRO now belongs in the pocket of various and sundry John Tanton based organizations. James Jay Carafono spouts the Tanton party line in this editorial. Mark Krikorian works for Tanton’s Center for Immigration Studies True to form, Krikorian plays fast and loose with the facts. He mentions that Lindsey was booed in SC at the GOP convention, because of immigration. What he fails to mention that the boos (and there were only a few) came when Lindsey mentioned Ted Kennedy’s name. NOTE TO KRIKORIAN: Learn how to tell the truth.
Katheryn Jean Lopez is just plain old out of control.
“…For many conservatives, this immigration business over the last week has felt a lot like the last stages of Bush Estrangement Syndrome. Even though the bill went down in the end, it leaves deep wounds — far from the first. As Ingraham made clear, many conservatives never really bought into “compassionate conservatism” — conservatism didn’t exactly need George W. Bush to become compassionate. Ending the Cold War had an element of compassion in it, after all. Speaking of wars — God bless him for being a leader, but he’s never quite consistently made the case for the current war as well as others outside the administration have. (And he invited to the White House, for state dinners, editors of papers that leak national-security information.)…”
MY RANT OF THE DAYConservative Paris Hiltons
It’s like this, many REPUBLICANS have never really bought into the idea that conservatives are fair, balanced and loyal Republicans. I think Ms Lopez, Ms Ingraham need to completely disavow themselves of the GOP and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. We will also be counting the silver. I know that sounds childish and unprofessional. But consider what we are working with – childish.
I was absolutely shocked today to discover that something has completely changed Bill O’Reilly’s approach to immigration. Fact is, I think he has THE BEST IDEA I’ve heard to date. I am also quite appreciative of the fact that he appears to be awakening to the fact that many of the anti-immigration foes are extreme conservatives who are impossible to placate. Let’s just say I was shocked at his reasoned approach.
O’Reilly proves my point. When good people stop and look at just who we are dealing with, they use reason and logic. Evidently O’Reilly’s eyes and his heart have been opened. All I’ve wanted to hear from him is the question he asked Malkin. “If a good, decent family of illegal immigrants were living next door to you, could you report them to ICE.” (I am not quoting him exactly, but I am close. Evidently she could, and he was shocked.
Another hard heart has softened. I have been so absolutely worried about this country for so long. I’ve been devastated because I know how “never again” happened in Germany. We can take O’Reilly’s name off the “never again” list – to the “Gets It” list.
Thank God!
Now, if we could just get the rest of our dear conservatives, you know the ones - they are going around acting like Paris Hilton, flaunting convention, then when caught, do nothing but cry for mommy!
CONFLICTING POLLS
I’ve been saying for months that Rasmussen has sold out to the conservative right wing. I think this poll on immigration is one of those sell-outs.
Check the wording and the wording of the press release.
“…Ultimately, while supporting prosecution, the poll shows that just 33% of Americans believe that most illegal aliens should actually be deported. Sixty-two percent (62%) say that most illegal aliens who have been here at least two years should be “given a chance to keep their jobs and eventually apply for legal status.” Giving them a chance to keep their jobs is a continuation of the status quo requiring no change in policy…”
I thought Hispanics in the US were all Catholic and Democrat. That is what we have been told. Now, according to PEW we learn that assimiliated Hispanics are rapidly becoming Protestant and are identifying with the REPUBLICAN PARTY. In other words, if the GOP would treat these people decently and do humane immigration reform the GOP gains more voters than it will lose by crybaby temper tantrum conservatives refusing to play. Now though – the conservatives are threatening to desert the GOP and many Hispanics have been insulted with the constant anti-Hispanic racism. “…As mentioned, nearly one-in-six U.S. Hispanics (15%) identify themselves as evangelicals, making them the second largest religious group in the Latino community. Other Protestants, including mainline Protestants (5%) and members of other groups such as Jehovah's Witnesses, account for another 8%. Most Hispanics (68%) are Roman Catholics, while seculars account for 8% of the total. Members of other faiths barely make up 1% of the Latino community.
The recently released Pew survey found that roughly half (51%) of Latino evangelicals are converts, mostly from Catholicism, and that more than two thirds (69%) identify with pentecostal and charismatic forms of Christianity. Although most (55%) Hispanic evangelicals are first-generation Americans, that percentage is lower than it is for Latino Catholics, more than two-thirds (68%) of whom are foreign born. This trend is reflected in the fact that nearly two-thirds of Latino evangelicals (63%) say English is their primary language or that they are bilingual, compared with less than half (45%) of Latino Catholics. Evangelicals also have slightly higher levels of education and income than the Latino population as a whole….”

Liz Mair has a fascinating piece in the NY Sun.
PRIMARIES 2008
Edwards will fight Islamic Terror with a Department of Peace. If Romney has stopped pandering to the conservative base, is it possible there isn’t all that much of a base? Brownback goes after Romney How about a little Ron Paul wackery? Will Thompson (Fred) harm the GOP the way Goldwater did? Why is Mitt flopping on Iraq? Romney is having a tantrum over the Iowa Straw Poll. Tancredo on the immigration stalemate hurting McCain.
