DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES THERE WILL BE NO WEDNESDAY’S HERO.

HOUSEKEEPING:  Tomorrow my mother has a very late afternoon cardiology appointment in Las Cruces, so I have no idea when I will get home. If you don’t see a post until late, you will know why.

Remembering my uncle by marriage, Barrett Holloway, who piloted on of those troop landing boats, successfully, trip after trip, dodging enemy fire, as one of the most important battles in history began.  He was just doing his job, and never thought much about it.  I think we should consider him a hero, just as much as was my 2nd cousin, Dick Reilly, a tail gunner in the European theater, who never even told his parents about his Medal of Honor. His father found the box with the precious award, tossed in a clutter of other medals on a shelf one day when he went to Dick’s house to find him dead drunk, again.  Dick never did recover from ‘one mission too many’ and the fact that his hands had killed so many people.  True heroism isn’t glamorous and usually has life-changing repercussions. If the hero survives, he or she will probably never be the same, ever again. Wizbang has an excellent posting about D-Day.

Miss Piggy did better last night and is still eating.  No test results have come in, but she is getting stronger!

We are having a terrible windstorm here.  I am staying in the condo.  When it is like this, the wind is so bad, there’s no way you can even open windows. When I look out at the mountains I see a thin film of white sand (from White Sands)  If you go outside and open your mouth for a minute, you end up with this strange sweet taste – from White Sands.  It is weird, but then that’s life in NM.

I am still battling with my VIAO and what ever it is that has attacked it.  Now the problem, and has been one of the problems is the wmiprvse.exe file.  The problem is it is an important file rather like the little Dutch boy holding his finger in the dyke.  But – and this is the big problem, there is a virus called w32/Snebot.B that is a windows system 32 worm.  It replicates itself when you try removing it.  I’m getting a handle on the attack of the adware.  The bottom line here is you can’t just delete all the files at one time.  You must scan, delete and quarantine only one ‘file’ then go on.  Later you make another scan and do the same thing.  So, while I am trying to scan, clean, and not go postal, I am gradually emailing files to my Mac – that allegedly doesn’t get these kinds of viruses.  I started removing programs this evening, having horrible problems.  I can’t download my email.  I finally uninstalled AVG, which I detest.  I need to be able to send email over to the MAC so I can continue transferring files.  We shall see what happens.  Around 7PM I reinstalled One Care, which picked up a Trojan AVG missed.  I need to get that little VAIO up and running again, somehow.  I just don’t want to reformat the drive.

MUST READ:  What is the connection between various ancient cultures and language?  I find this sort of thing absolutely fascinating.

MUST READ: AJ Strata is hot today.  Instead of picking out just one topic, just read the whole day’s blogging!   But – his “End of the Conservative Run” is excellent.

“…Mark it down as a product of the movement’s success. Taxes are low, our military is still being invested in and modernized. Free market practices are still free and infecting much of government. Faith and family are not stigmas anymore. George Bush will go down in history as being incredibly successful. He cut taxes 3 times and helped keep our economy from taking a big hit from 9-11. He did work to slow the discretionary spending (much of the growth under Bush was in military and national defense). He made the lives of all our seniors better by leaps and bounds by making prescription drugs available to them at reasonable, free market prices. No child is being left behind. No federal money is being used to harvest the unborn for research. Parent’s must be notified and give permission before anyone can perform an abortion on their child. And he brought an end to partial birth abortion. He would have done more, but the far right was fed up with all this progress and wanted control of the agenda - to keep it pure….”
THE MINUTEMAN SCAM
THE LAWSUITS BEGIN

Please forgive the fact that I am indulging myself.  I’ve had rough 5 days battling the computer plague.  Let me have a little fun.

It all began last summer when inquiring minds discovered that the much heralded minuteman fence was a minuteman scam!   I am not going to rewrite history.  For all those new Pink Flamingo readers, here is the link to where we followed the story from day one.   Currently the MCDC (The Subway CanariesMinuteman Civil Defense Corps) is being sued for fraud by a man who mortgaged his home for $100,000 to build THE FENCE.

THE JOYS OF ISLAM
I know I sound like a hypocrite with immigration but what I fear is something I see on a Drudge headline – Mohammed will soon be the most popular boy’s name in the UK.  I don’t give a rip if the most popular boy’s name in the US is Mattie, Felipe, or Jesus (baseball fans will recognize the list) or Jose, Manuel, or Juan – but I don’t want the name Mohammed to become the number one name.  Yes, now I do sound racist, but race has nothing to do about it.  Okay, I’m being a chauvinistic Christian.  I don’t want my country taken over by proponents of Islam.  It’s that simple.  Hispanic immigrants are 90% Catholic.  The only thing that will checkmate the terrifying birthrate of Islamic families is the birthrate of Hispanic Catholics.  I’m not looking at today, I am looking at the US 100 years from today.

Separate and Very Much Not Equal

How long are our feminists going to make excuses for what goes on in Islamic nations?   This is not a better way of life.  I know it is politically incorrect, but when I see a woman in this country, in the land of the FREE (where I know she is free to practice any religion she wants to practice, it still makes me angry when I see women all covered.  I think to live in the US and go around covered by head-scarves and burkas, and the like is to defile what I hold most dear.  To me, it is the greatest obscenity there is.  I wish we could be allowed to report such incidents as obscene, and profane, as degrading, and an affront to society.  Instead we are told to be tolerant.  It may be the computer virus, but I’m not in a tolerant mood.  Atlas Shrugs has a piece about one hour marriages.

CBDS – Conservative Bush Derangement Syndrome

A MINI RANT
THE 11TH COMMANDMENT

If Ronald Reagan were Moses and last night was the eve that Reagan brought the 11 Commandments down from the Washington Monument, he would have smashed them, and used unReagan like profanity as the 11th Commandment was broken over and over again.  “Thou shalt never speak ill of a fellow Republican”.  Last night, as the pitiful dwarf pretenders to the throne of Reagan danced around the Golden Calf of immigration Reagan smashed his copy of the commandments and issued the same orders that Moses issued for those who defiled the Jehovah, he demanded the deaths of their political careers. Only John McCain, who has been consistent in his criticism of the handling of the War in Iraq and Rudy Giuliani would be left with their political careers intact.

What if – by this time next summer, the war is going well, the economy is still humming, and we’ve settled part of the immigration issue – what is one of the “Dwarfs” manages to get nominated.  I think there is going to be much egg on someone’s face.  I just find the whole thing completely distasteful and further exemplifies just how low into degradation today’s far right conservative has sunk.

As I mentioned above, with AJ Strata’s excellent essay, and echoed by Harold Hutchison at Called As Seen,  things are starting to get ugly as far right conservatives are starting to prove themselves the abject equal in nuttiness to their counterparts in the far left.  They are no different.

MISC. GIULIANI
Something bothered me when I heard Frank Luntz on H&C this evening.  I did some googling and discovered that Luntz may have rigged his polling base.  Evidently Luntz is highly motivated toward Romney.  In other words – he’s biased.  So, Romney, who looked like a used car salesman looks ‘presidential’ to Luntz.   If you watch this January video, it is obvious Luntz is in Romney’s pocket.  I find this fascinating, how Romney won the debate when Flap has a list of all the various sources (reputable) who say Giuliani won.

I don’t know about you, but I am pleased to see that Giuliani has opted to opt out of the Iowa Straw Poll.  Why?  Well, we are going to hear belly-aching, weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth as pandering Iowa Republicans discover they aren’t all that important in the great scheme of things.  Neither are those in New Hampshire.  Oh, I know the early primaries are their primary claim to fame and excitement, but there are 48 other states, some of them much bigger and much more important.  I know it politically correct to allow people in states like Iowa and New Hampshire, but what about New Mexico.  I suppose we, and our 4 electoral votes, are nothing but chopped liver.  You don’t see POTUS candidates pandering to us.  You never will.  We know we aren’t important in the grand scheme of things, and guess what?  We don’t give a rip.  Heck, we have aliens, real ones, not those two legged ones who cross the Rio Grande, but real blaster carrying, green blooded aliens to market.  Back to the subject at hand – if Giuliani skips and the Prom King decide not to attend, what good is Iowa?   And now McCain is pulling out.  Looks like Romney will be able to bus his folks in and win.

I love Roger Simon’s comment!

I think Liz Mair (GOP Progress) has a good wrap up of the evening.

MUST READ: The Race42008 has an interesting Giuliani piece.  It is possible Giuliani does have a solution for border security.  (Take that anti-Giuliani conservatives!)

Barone has an interesting take on the newest Rasmussen numbers.  He thinks because of the layout of the primaries, Giuliani is going to have a difficult time of it.

GOP HISPANIC VOTE
More racist blather by Heather MacDonald. In this piece she quotes Steve Sailer.  I can’t believe any self-respecting writer would even go there. The good think about all of this immigration talk and anti-Hispanic racism is the way these people are starting to expose themselves.    MacDonald quotes a VDARE (VDARE has been designated as a “hate” site by the SPLC) article by Sailer discussing the myth of Hispanic vote.  Fortunately, Raoul Lowery Contreras , author of a study dealing with the Hispanic vote contradicts.  Unfortunately, our dear conservatives consider such sites as Hispanic Vistas as ‘racist’ and biased and don’t bother.

Julio C. Calderon penned this moving editorial at Hispanic Vistas.   It is quite a takedown of Rush Limbaugh.  Calderon is a Republican, Hispanic, conservative, and he votes!

“…    Mexicans, for the most past, are extremely loyal to their country…and, for the most part, are very conservative. We, those of us Mexican Americans who have chosen to toil in the Republican fields, have heard Republicans refrain: “Mexicans share the same values as Republicans; family, work ethics, religious values, etc.” I can’t tell how often I have been asked by Republican candidates; “How do I get the Hispanic vote?” So I ask them who the Hispanic leaders are in their district. “I’m not sure,” is their response. OK, so I ask them, which are the Hispanic organizations in your district. “I don’t know,” is the response.
These candidates are looking for a house Mexican who can deliver the Hispanic vote to them, without them having to walk a predominantly Hispanic district, or have to face their questions at a Hispanic organization’s convention. So, I tell these candidates how to get a large portion of the Hispanic vote…work for it! Mr. Limbaugh fears massive Democrat registrations, the fact is, that many to those who register will also register Republican.
When President Ronald Reagan died a small rally was staged in downtown Fresno, California. A Mexican American was interviewed and asked why he was there. He told them to honor Mr. Reagan because of his amnesty this Mexican is now a Mexican American.
What has been missing from the national debate has been the economics of immigration. Thus far, only the costs of undocumented people have been debated. In 1982 there were, according to the U. S. Census, 233,975 Hispanic owned businesses in the U.S., the number in 2002’s census was 1,573,464. The largest jump came between 1986 and 1992. The number in 1987 was 422,373 and 771,708 in 1992. These were the years following President Reagan’s amnesty.
Yes, I could do a little research into crime statistics and the like, but all of that has been regurgitated over and over again. Crime has increased, but so has the Hispanic population. These statistics have also increased among the non-Hispanic population as it too has grown.
The dramatic growth of Hispanic businesses and those of Asians are testaments to the American Spirit and the freedoms available in this great nation that opens opportunities for people to change their station in life.
When Mr. Reagan gave illegal immigrants amnesty many of these men and women sought to leave the low-paying, back-breaking jobs. They educated their children, and those with the entrepreneurial spirit started businesses. According to various studies into the Hispanic business community, most of these businesses were started in their homes. Kind-of reminds you of the likes of Hewlett and Packard, doesn’t it.
During the mini-depressions when other businesses wilted and closed their doors, Hispanic businesses continued to flourish and grow. They did so without government loans or bail-outs, they relied on their survival skills…the same skills that got them through harsh desert crossings and years of living in fear of capture and deportation.
Technically, everyone in these United States illegally are law breakers, however, the victims of this particular crime are the undocumented themselves mostly because of the abusive lives they are forced to live. Those who have committed crimes and are in our prisons are a very small percentage of the whole of them, the greater majority lead quiet lives so as not to come out of the shadows.
What we can expect when President George W. signs whatever immigration bill finally emerges from the congressional sausage factory is more of the same. We can expect most to stay in the lower economic strata; those who will move on to better paying jobs with better working conditions; and, those who will move beyond the middle classes. It’s the nature of the immigrant meeting the American dream unfettered. We all have the right to succeed and the right to be failures.
Critics lament the assimilation factor. Critics state that today’s Hispanic immigrant doesn’t assimilate like those of generations past. Fact of the matter is that they do assimilate, they just don’t abandon their languages and traditions, but as generations come the language of our parents go into the past…quickly making us pochos (a non-complimentary term used by Mexicans to describe a Mexican American.)
Then there is the issue of blame. Who’s fault is it for this problem? Answer is easy…it’s the fault of those who drafted our constitution. They created this nation where all men and women are created equal, and provided a country where those who yearn to be free can do so; they created a nation where dreams, and accomplishing those dreams, are limited only by their own imagination and will to succeed.”
