Anyone else would have a toy poodle who would cower under the bed during an major thunderstorm.  Not mine.  Have you ever seen the classic Bring Up Baby?  Not only has the AFI listed it as the funniest movie ever made, but I think it is the funniest movie ever made.  Howard Hawks repeated some of the gags in Man’s Favorite Sport.  What’s Up Doc is a remake of both, but I can’t stomach Babs.  The late, great character actor, Asta (who was THE real star of the Thin Man series) played an obnoxious little dog named George.  If you want to know what life is right with Rumsfeld, well, just watch the movie!

THE GREAT CAT SOAP OPERA

I think told you about Bat Masterson yesterday.  I don't know if I told you how Mommy Cat acted.  She kept looking for him with me.  Quite interesting.  I called this evening and Miss Piggy is about the same.  The sweetest thing happened this evening.  I was telling my friend Alicia's 8 year old daughter, Sydney, about Miss Piggy.  Some of you may remember that Sydney is my 'official' kitten wranler.  Her comment, "I will be keeping Miss Piggy in my prayers."  It doesn't get dearer than that!

Heather Wilson on the new House intel proposals.

It may be crass to mention this, but Senator Craig Thomas, WY has just died. His death will have some major implications for the GOP because WY’s governor is a Dem.

There is an interesting new archaeological discoveryon some of the drought stricken portions of Lake Okeechobee.

MUST READ:  Red State’s most excellent history of the battle of Midway.

Wizbang has a good piece, also.

Matt Margolis mentions the exact same thing I thought when I heard about the Jefferson indictment.  What a difference a Party makes!  Makes you proud of the GOP.

I’ve been hard on Malkin over immigration, but you gotta love her take on Jefferson!

Fred Barnes inserts some logic into the argument.

You see, the problem is the GOP is silencing “true conservatives”:

“…Having been a lifelong Republican I, like thousands of other conservatives, finally had enough. I traded in my GOP membership card, gave them back their secret de-coder ring and elephant decals and went elsewhere. I chose America’s third largest party based on voter registrations (Ballot Access News) I joined the Constitution Party. First I checked out the Greens; environmentalism is ok but I’m a die-hard free market gal myself and well, I like property rights too much. Next I looked at the Libertarian Party; nope…call me crazy but I still think killing babies is just plain mean and furthermore their open-borders policy does nothing for me. Lots of other people must agree because now polls show we’re seeing the results of years of growing discontent with the Republican and Democratic “Big Box” parties. Voters like me are now weighing their options, especially on that one issue that has voters seething- immigration. According to top-rated public opinion firm Rasmussen Reports, respondents were asked how they would vote if "a third party candidate ran in 2008 and promised to build a barrier along the Mexican border and make enforcement of immigration law his top priority."…”

The thing is, as if to prove my point that these people may be “registered” Republicans but NEVER vote GOP, the author, Mary Starrett “was the Constitution Party candidate for Oregon governor in November, 2006, a TV news anchor and talk show host for 25 years and a radio talk show host for 5 years.  Executive Director, Oregonians for Life, Board of Directors, Christian Family Adoptions.  She is currently the Communications Director for the Constitution Party. The Constitution Party is the fastest-growing minor political party (www.ballot-access.org) and is made up of Americans who believe a return to constitutional government is imperative. “

Yep, that’s the GOP base alright!   When I was working as a lobbyist in DC during the Reagan years, the John Birch Society was considered extreme.  Now, these very same conservatives go around quoting it.  Something has changed and it isn’t me.

Outside the Beltway on why some conservatives are no longer free market advocates. Robert Bluey’s commentary about GWB proves my point about conservatives. html  I think our wacky YAHOO conservatives have completely mis-underestimated the size of the “CONSERVATIVE BASE”.  Yes, many Republicans are conservative, but many, many conservatives are not Republican.  There is a huge difference.  If you’ve seen the latest USA Today poll about immigration, you know the issue is a losing audience for today’s YAHOO conservative talk show hosts.  Like I was telling a friend today, I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of the dominance of these people.  Called As Seen on the latest numbers for the “base”. Then Strata Sphere also checks in with numbers from the “base”. The most recent polls are going completely against what our blessed YAHOO conservatives are saying about immigration

Ankle Biting Pundits   is repeating the story that the possibility of a SCOTUS vacancy will serve to remind conservatives about who is in charge.  Rush (for the 5 minutes I listened to him this noon before turning him off in disgust) repeats the WPost assertion that GWB is doing it for cover.  Maybe if it were the Clinton people, I could believe it.  But when has GWB ever done anything to try to garner support and make things look good.  The man, bless his precious heart, is like a Texas Longhorn in a china shop.  Personally, I believe love it! The beautiful part of all of this is before our conservative talk show hosts came down with a bad casf bush deranement syndrome, they would be gushing about this one.

What do these card carrying anti-immigration conservatives really believe – they people who support Rush, Hannity, O’Reilly, and the rest of ‘em?    Who needs the fairness doctrine?  By the time this thing is over, they will have alienated enough of their audience that the Dems won’t need to worry.

My personal favorite is the one proclaiming that concentration camps are proposed for the US  This is the “conservative base” Rush panders to.

“…Halliburton affiliate Kellog, Brown & Root is currently constructing a vast detention facility earmarked for unlawful enemy combatants and terrorists, but some fear the facility -- the first of many -- is being designed for Americans who oppose US global integration programs.

While America's left-wingers are sounding the alarm about "concentration camps," there are many who believe it is conservatives who will be illegally incarcerated in these KBR built prison camps. A number of conservatives have noticed how President George W. Bush and other so-called right-wingers such as Senator John McCain have used the same anti-conservative rhetoric as liberals.

"During the illegal immigration debate, Bush, McCain and many others who claim to be conservatives sided with left-wing demagogues. I wouldn't be surprised if pro-life activists, anti-immigration advocates and other conservatives find themselves locked away in secret prison camps," said political consultant Mike Baker. …”

The best part of this is the people who are terrified about this are the same ones who want illegal aliens detained in camps. From the same hysterical article:

“…The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs. While most Americans will agree with such government action against illegal aliens, it is unlikely that government will use these new detention centers for that purpose….”

MINI RANT OF THE DAY

You Can No Longer Tell the Difference

It’s like this.  The conservatives have gone so far right they have met the liberals who have gone so far left they have linked hands with the conservatives way down in the nut roots.  If we were looking at a clock and High Noon is moderate, 3:13 is conservative, and 9:15 is liberal, the conservatives and the liberals are both at 6:30.  Both groups are out of their ever-loving minds!  They are one in the same and cut from the same cloth.  The conservatives are an embarrassment to the GOP.  The liberals are an embarrassment to good, decent Dems everywhere.  (Yes, out in the real, everyday world there are decent, moderate and conservative Dems.  I even know a few who would vote for Giuliani).  The problem is both factions think they own things. Maybe it is time we, good decent people tell both groups where they can go, what they can do on the way, where they can put it, and not to let the door hit them on the way out!

They are nothing but political cry-babies.
