I am truly puzzled.  I thought all the tainted pet food had been pulled from shelves, but according to Itchmo, the recalls continue.  Now farm-fed fish is in that recall. Itchmo has been banned in China.

They are now tracking environmental connections to Lupus here in New Mexico

I would not have noticed this if I did not have a ‘sister’ with the disease, here in NM.

Note to Perri Nelson, I have transcribed my immigration rant.  It is at the end of today’s posting.   P. S.  You are really going to get a kick out of my upcoming Thursday Thirteen list!

ONLY IN NEW MEXICO

Yet another chapter in the continuing saga of it could only happen in New Mexico.  They are still looking for the capsule containing the ashes of Scotty and Gordon Cooper.  Yep, only in New Mexico.

No Agenda’s Pelosi update.

The Dem culture of corruption.

The Prez is threatening to veto a heck of a lot of Dem ultra spending.  Funny how they are doing the pork thing but cutting some much needed high tech gadgets from our military budget.  Yep, they are true to form.

CBS fired a shock jock for making an Asian slur.  Okay, we now know that you can’t make racial slurs against minorities but threatening to rape the First Lady, Secretary of State, and Queen of England is okay.  Glad we have that straight!

I agree with Kudlow that the Dems are dooming themselves to defeat.

According to the House Intelligence Committee, the Dems would rather the CIA deal with global warming than terror.

Yesterday I was puzzled when I saw that the MPAA is now going to add smoking to their movie ratings.  I wondered if there was a  Dem in the woodwork.  Well, there was.  Jay Rockefeller is threatening to have the FCC take control of the regulation of movies and television and their content.

CONSERVATIVES GONE BAD

A MINI RANT FOR TODAY

Reaction to Giuliani’s pro? Abortion speech continues.   continues it’s reign of terror against Republicans who do not goose-step with their increasingly extreme version of conservativism (that has absolutely nothing to do with the GOP or the ghost of Reagan).  This time the Giuliani campaign has been declared DOA because Giuliani has refused to pander to the Right and says exactly what he thinks about abortion.   The thing is, Giuliani’s version of abortion politics is probably more closely aligned with the rank and file in the GOP than Red States, where even a woman who has been raped is not entitled to one.   Earlier in the week Red State declared war against the House GOP. While I agree that we do not need Republicans who are being investigated in positions of leadership, in this day and age the Dems want each and every Republican investigated.  Is Red State going to go along with the Dems?

Now Patrick J. Buchanan has declared that Rudy Giuliani is not welcome in his GOP.  Heck, I thought he jumped ship for his own little form of racist, bigoted, pro-white supremacist politics ages ago.  I did not know he still considered himself a Republican.  I sure don’t.

And I gather Red State is going to condemn Romney for what he has done previously, but now says he didn’t do.    But then, Romney is pandering to the Right, so evidently what he is now doing with abortion is acceptable.

I love the way Lawyers, Guns and Money has gone after Red State.  Let’s be honest here.  I am sick and tired of abortion being used as a litmus test.  It has become nothing more than a way for completely intellectually dishonest panderers (read P-R-O-S-T-I-T-U-T-E-S) like Mitt Romney to manipulate and wriggle their way into the hearts and feeble minds of non-thinking conservatives who really don’t give a damn about the country and are only interested in their precious version of what Ronald Reagan actually never said.  I am constantly amazed at these people.  Let’s also face the fact that they are the ones who are holding up any rational form of immigration reform

by being such hard-lined cold-hearted you know whats that they are actually endangering our country.

Thanks to Liz Mair at GOP Progress, I found this Red State Fatwa against Romney, and in a back-handed way against McCain.  Since Romney’s wife donated to Planned Parenthood.  First question:  Are there any other issues besides abortion for Red State?

IMMIGRATION

THE BIG IMMIGRATION RANT - Part 1

The Roots of the Minutemen and the Anti-Immigration Movement.

(Part II – Tomorrow)

(For additional background information on Barbara Coe, John Tanton, and Glenn Spencer, refer to The Subway Canaries)

There is a link between anti-immigration advocates and hate groups.

Others besides me are coming up with the same information, finally.

“…One fourth of the new groups are chapters of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps (MCDC), the volunteer paramilitary group that patrols the U.S.-Mexico border, builds fences, and notes the license plate numbers of contractors who hire undocumented workers.2 Its leader, Chris Simcox, has become a national icon, and locally, MCDC members are making their voices heard at protests, council meetings, and courthouses.

Although these armed vigilantes get most of the press, a national network of organizations working to end immigration has existed for decades. Today, 35 such groups, with a collective membership of between 600,000 and 750,000, work in research, advocacy, fundraising, and lobbying to influence state and federal policies.3 Some of the most salient include the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), English First, and NumbersUSA.

Ten groups channeled $4.2 million into anti-immigration lobbying in 2005, and nine political action committees raised $3.4 million for campaigns in 2006. In Congress, the movement’s growth is reflected in the Immigration Reform Caucus, which has grown from 16 members in 1999 to more than 90 today….”

And someone besides moi is using the “Nazi” word….

“…Tanton’s own views are not so hidden. In 1986 a memo he wrote—in which he wondered, “As Whites see their power and control over their lives declining, will they simply go quietly into the night? Or will there be an explosion?”—was leaked to the press, causing several people (including himself, Walter Cronkite, and Linda Chavez) to leave U.S. English.6 From 1985 to 1994 Tanton accepted $1.3 million on behalf of FAIR from the Pioneer Fund, a formerly Nazi organization that finances research in eugenics and IQ differences between races.7 Tanton also shares an office at Social Contract Press with Wayne Lutton, a writer who also sits on the board of the Council of Conservative Citizens and edits the anti-Semitic journal The Occidental Quarterly….”

I am so glad to see someone has come up with a flow chart on the various anti-immigration sources.

Today’s anti-immigration, more especially today’s anti-Mexican immigration fervor began when Roger Barnett  and his brother, Donald, decided they were going to hunt the world’s must exciting game.  To backtrack a little, the Barnett brothers are big-game hunters who have what they euphemistically refer to as a ‘ranch’ in Cochise County, Arizona.  They advertised their new idea – hunting for illegal Mexicans who were also drug runners.  Soon their idea attracted the attention of Barbara Coe and Glenn Spencer.  A few years later Larry Vance started promoting his Concerned Citizens of Cochise County.

According to Lee Morgan, II, a former Border Patrol agent in that region for several decades,

“…IR: At another point in your book, you say the Barnett brothers had plans to open a lodge and bring big game hunters in for immigrant-hunting "safaris." How did you hear about that?

MORGAN: My partner Butch and I were sitting on the side of the road, watching the Barnetts detain a group of UDAs [undocumented aliens]. We wanted to make sure that nothing went awry in that situation, that nobody was abused or anything.  While we were waiting, my partner gets out and goes over to talk to one of the ranch hands that work for the Barnetts. Butch came back to the truck and he was like, "You wouldn't believe what these guys are doing! That ranch hand said the Barnetts are building this hunting lodge to bring people in to hunt UDAs." After that, I noticed that all the dates when Roger Barnett would turn aliens over to the Border Patrol were on weekends and holidays. It's a sport for them, a hobby.

When you look at these weekend apprehensions the Barnetts have had a hand in, what does that look like to you? It kind of corroborates this and verifies it. It's just crazy….”

This same Larry Vance, in the 1970, according to Morgan, when he was about 18 or 19, “…shot his first Mexican border crosser….not even an indictment ever came to pass because the undersheriff of Cochise County back then was…Jimmy Vance Judd, Larry’s second cousin….It was a known fact that Judd was a bit of a bigot.  When he became the sheriff a couple of years later his feelings on racism surfaced…” (Martin, pgs. 339-340)

The Barnett brothers approached Morgan for, “…they thought they if they could get me, in my capacity as a U. S. Customs Service special agent, to enroll them as government informants, that they could get paid and have a legal license to hunt Mexican dope mules and illegal aliens.  When I asked the vigilantes what their specific “hunting” plans entailed, Don Barnett hemmed and hawed around until he finally spat it out.  With a wicked, uneasy, bargaining, grin he said, “Well, if we just kind of shoot over their heads, and if they are carrying dope and they drop it, you can pay us a reward for it.” ….I think the son of a bitch intended to outright blow folks away…” (Morgan, pgs. 341-341).

Why are we interested in this?  Because back in January, 2000, Pat Buchanan met with Larry Vance and Roger Barnett.  Morgan wrote, “…After Buchanan left Douglas, a good number of folks agreed that about the only things missing…were white sheets and pointy white nightcaps.”  (Morgan, p. 348)

On May 13, 2000 Barbara Coe, soon to be associated with Jim Gilchrist, attended one of the Barnett’s meetings At that meeting when Roger Barnett distributed a poster of himself alongside a 1776 Minuteman, Coe’s bunch christened Barnett a “Minuteman”.  The rest is history.  (Morgan, pgs. 349-350).

Have you heard the stories that no “Minuteman” or Cochise County vigilante ever accosted an illegal?  According to Morgan, between April 4, 1999 and Feb. 2, 2003 there were 48 documented incidents where illegal migrants were threatened.  The worst incident occurred on October 30, 2004 when Roger Barnett made the mistake of assaulting the wrong people. The SPLC has the details where Barnett accosted, assaulted, and imprisoned a Mexican-American family, the patriarch of which is a veteran of the US military.

“…Although a deputy sheriff who investigated the incident at the time found evidence to charge Roger Barnett with eight felony counts of aggravated assault and 10 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and intimidation, the Cochise County prosecutor refused to file criminal charges against the Barnett brothers. Morales says the county attorney simply told him "no jury in Cochise County will ever convict Roger Barnett."…”

Now read what Ranch Rescue says about Barnett.

“…On Sunday May 14th we visited Roger Barnett's ranch and a live radio show was broadcast from his porch. This show is sponsored by Voice of Citizens Together, the group I belong to, and who also had organized the meeting in Sierra Vista. The Barnett brothers have been vilified in the news repeatedly and called "hunters of illegals." While driving to Roger's ranch we passed a truck and van that was pulled over to the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. The truck was next to the van and it looked as if illegals were being moved from the truck into the van. A common practice once illegals make it to the road.  What was really noticeable was how expansive and rugged the desert land is, yet easy to hide in. Plenty of large brush decorating the soft rolling hills and arroyos. Hundreds of people could caravan across this dry country without ever being seen. In the dead of night it would impossible to spot them without lights. It's pitch black out there. I cannot imagine living out there never knowing who might be passing through. Never knowing what their intent might be. Roger Barnett, whom I had met once before, is a very kind, soft-spoken gentleman with a country boy style. His patience with people is clearly noticeable and he's as calm as his brother Don. Doesn't seem to be the type that riles easily. In fact, as Roger talked about all the damage that has been done to his property he sorts of smiles at the insanity of it all. Roger even stated that many times the trespassers are almost relieved to be found due to thirst and fatigue. Larry Vance, another rancher, is also being victimized and has had to turn his small ranch into a fortress for his wife and himself. Larry also displays that same calm, kind, yet strong characteristics. But one thing is for certain, they are tired. It shows on their faces. They are tired and look beaten. That's why we went to support them. To show them that people do care and are trying to help."

Now read what Morgan says about Barnett and his associates…

“…And you do have the few good, patriotic people that may not go left or right, but they want to see something done about the border; they may support the Barnetts and their vigilante activities for the wrong reasons. They're probably pretty good folks, but you know everybody's all upset about the border and the federal government not addressing it and taking care of it. Like I wrote in the book, if you can't give the American people border security through the federal government, then the vigilantes will do it, for all the wrong reasons — that's who the people will turn to. And the neo-Nazis and the KKK have got to love that. These are the guys behind the scenes, pulling strings here, going, "Man, this is great for us!" They love it. It's the perfect issue for them to hide behind and promote their racist agenda.

IR: What kind of border policy would you favor?
MORGAN: We need border security for criminals — actual, real criminals that cross in the midst of regular folks — and a guest worker program for the folks that are just coming in to feed their kids. That would free up a lot of law enforcement dollars and man-hours to look for the real criminal aliens that are looking to do us harm.

IR: After three decades working the border, how does the current climate compare to the way things were in the past?
MORGAN: This hype, this rhetoric, this phobia about Mexicans — I don't think I ever heard it this bad before 9/11. In the '70s, we'd pick 'em up, send 'em home, pick 'em up, send 'em home. They'd eventually make it [into the United States], get their work done and go home on their own. And nobody was screaming then. Now, it's all about the "terrorists." To attach the working illegal alien, who has been coming here for years, to the terrorism issue is wrong, wrong, wrong!

Mexican people helped settle the country, for God's sake. Where did this come from? I'll tell you where it came from — the terrorist 9/11 issue coming up, and right-wing conservatives and the KKK and neo-Nazi people looking to move their own agenda forward….”
