WEDNESDAY’S HERO

Air Force Maj. William D. Chesarek, Jr. has done something no other U.S. service member has done since WWII. On March 21 of this year, Maj. Chesarek was awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross, by Queen Elizabeth, for saving lives and in recognition for his bravery during combat operations in Iraq. Maj. Chesark was assigned as an exchange officer with the Royal Air Force's 847th Naval Air Squadron, Commando Helicopter Force in 2005 and was the pilot of the RAF’s Lynx Mk7 helicopter. On the evening of June 10, 2006, Chesarek was providing radio communication relay for British ground troops conducting a company-sized search operation near Amarah, Iraq. Listening to radio transmissions, he overheard that a vehicle involved in the operation had became disabled and a crowd of insurgents was firing small arms and rocket-propelled grenades at the company. According to his award citation, "Chesarek elected to fly low over the area in an attempt to distract the crowd and if possible, to engage the insurgents." Because the crowd was so close to the ground troops, instead of engaging his machine gun, he "opted instead to provide bold, harassing, very low level flight over the area in an attempt to disperse the crowd." You can read Maj. Chesarek's story in it's entirety here.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero. We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived This post is part of the Wednesday Hero Blogroll. If you would like to participate in honoring the brave men and women who serve this great country, you can find out how by going here.

Today is one of my optional two blogging lite days this week. I’ve been trying to find shelving for my new bookshelves.  Then I had a meltdown at Home Depot (I hate that place).  I picked up several interesting books – I hope they are.  One is about the sociopath next door.  Are we talking Democrats or what? Miss Piggy continues to be defiant over her meds.  I just plain old gave up on the little snit yesterday and squirted her antibiotic on her paws from a distance.  She licked it off.  Just now I noticed that she was asleep.  She sleeps so soundly I was able to sneak up and grab her.  She  is now medicated for the day.  Just one more dose and we’re done.  I can’t get over how much better she is, and how absolutely defiant she is.  She is very well named with a diva’s attitude. She’s going to be something when all grown up.  We do surgery next month, and have a drastic manicure.  She’s a furniture shredder big time. I just can’t get over this little kitten’s cattatude!  We’re talking a total stare of distain, major.  B®at Masterson is just that – a brat.  Last night he knocked things off a shelf, making much noise.  Then knocked over a basked in the guest bath – on tile- making so darn much noise it woke Rumsfeld up from a very peaceful sleep.

THE OTHER WAR  - GWB V. DEMS

Bush defies the Dems with recess appointments.  YES! I guess he did something wrong – by stealing the election from Algore in 2000.

New sport:  Let’s go after Rudy for supporting his wife! It’s okay for Bill to praise Hill, for John to praise Elizabeth, etc…but Rudy can’t praise Judi?

Drudge and McCain’s bump on the head.  I don’t mind admitting I’ve been worried about him.  Mine was genuine concern.  Drudge is supporting Romney and is getting to be a little underhanded with it.

MY RANT FOR THE DAY

The Giuliani abortion problem.  I don’t like abortion.  It is legal.  I don’t like government funding of it.  It is one of these issues that bothers me.  On the other hand, I would like very much to see abortion be less of an issue for the GOP.  If you want my personal opinion, I am far more against the death penalty, except for treason (shoot ‘em where they stand) I am much more against – okay about the same – as I am against abortion.  This puts me in opposition to most of the GOP.   I’ve known plenty of people who were anti-abortion who were absolute fools and plenty of people who were for it who were bright, wise people.  I don’t like it as a defining factor for a candidate. I am far more interested in security and economic issues.  I’m about 99% in agreement with Giuliani there.  Romney is a total fool, the GOP version of John Kerry.  I don’t think McCain can carry a general election.  And there we are.

Last night I was very impressed with Giuliani’s interview by Hannity.  He came across as humble, self-deprecating, and very much able to laugh at himself.  I like that quality in anyone.  The problem is, and I know from personal experience, those of us who are self-deprecating and able to laugh at themselves is sometimes people don’t take us seriously because we do not take ourselves seriously.  I like someone who does not take themselves seriously.  What a wonderful quality to have in a President.  I contrasted Hannity’s interview with Giuliani and Romney (tonight).  What a difference.  Giuliani is articulate, incredibly well read, and a master of history.  Romney is all John Kerry all the time.

Right now I don’t give a rip about abortion.  I’ll take Giuliani any time.
