I was going to email a friend and gloat about all the shelf space I now had for more books, but then I discovered an entire shelf where I had so many double stacked – well, forget it.  Let’s face it, I am absolutely hopeless when t comes to hording books!  It hurts to get rid of them.  I can’t understand people who don’t love books.  Speaking of which, I need to carry another armful down to the living room. I am rapidly discovering one of the worst problems of being a writer living where I have no access to a decent library is the habit of purchasing books.  I don’t even know where I am going to put the books I need on immigration, some of which I truly do not wish to purchase they are so vile.

Redford has decided to be a bit social.  I’ve never seen a more timid feline.  I think I mentioned when he went in for his surgery he had tears in his eyes.  He has been coming out more and more, staying near me.  He is as timid and fearful as Miss Piggy is a total and complete diva.  My mother’s brother and their cousin are coming to visit tomorrow.  My uncle hates cats.  Naturally Hondo kitty is having psychological problems dealing with the issue and has begun spraying all over the guest room.  So, Hondo will be having an extended spa visit at Dr. Franklin’s this week.

Tomorrow I have funeral services for a dear friend, Penny Matthews.  I am dreading it.  If I could find a way out of it I wouldn’t hesitate to do so.  I just pray for her family and for her husband Rodney.

Christmas may have come a little early to the GOP this year.  There are rumors, quite serious ones, that Algore is going to enter The Race.  My question is will he be Green or just another lyin’ little Dem?  On the other hand, could disaffected Dems, like disaffected Conservatives be looking for a savior?  Which brings me in a round about way to Fred Thompson.  I just don’t see him as the great conservative hope.

I was listening to Larry Sabato on FOX this morning.  He thinks abortion is now going to be a huge issue for the GOP in the primaries and the election and this is going to hurt Giuliani.  I find fascinating that he also mentioned the alliance between the GOP and conservatives, separating them entirely from the GOP.  Maybe I am just not bright, but I don’t see how, because of the “win” on partial birth abortion, the GOP is going to now make abortion the second most important plank in a platform, next to the war in Iraq.  I would love to have your opinion on this one.

Three teens deported.

I do have a question:  With all the emphasis on “rounding up” illegal aliens, are we dropping the ball on going after the real criminals?

All illegal immigration is Mexican?  Right?

When are people going to stop viewing Mexicans as “evil” and invaders? All they want is a break.

From this piece, it is quite obvious Cho was not autistic as some suggest.

The NYTimes article on Cho A UK view that will make you want to throw up.  Poor Cho is the victim.

 The LA Times version.

“…Though America's South Korean American community can be insular, the Chos seemed unusually reclusive. They did not regularly attend church, a center of social activity and networking for many immigrants. Even more important is the cultural emphasis on education and success. Failures are often viewed as dishonorable.  "Our life is governed by chae-myon, what other people think about us," said Tong S. Suhr, a Korean American attorney and an unofficial historian of Los Angeles' Koreatown. "Consulting someone outside the family is admitting that you can't handle it. It is shameful. So we keep everything to ourselves." Chang, of UC Riverside, offered a darker view of the Cho family dynamic. "The sister epitomized the immigrant success story, while the brother represented its failure," he said. "Cho was nerdy. Students made fun of him. He was a psycho who needed help. His parents and friends failed in that regard. Society failed too."

And in this revealing UK profile, my theory that Cho was abusive to his sister is confirmed.

“…Since he was a young child in Korea, Cho's mental health had been raising concerns. He was brought up in a dingy 430 sq ft basement apartment in Seoul, where he lived until he was eight. After details of his killing spree were made public, several family members there have described him as being a difficult and withdrawn child who did not want to be hugged but would violently punch his older sister when the two squabbled….But while he may have been retarded emotionally and socially, Cho was no dummy intellectually. Joseph Boayue, who was in the same advanced maths class, described him as "supersmart", winning A grades - though he consistently "blanked" even those fellow pupils he knew….”

I have repeatedly stated that something was seriously wrong with this person.  We learn that his family went to their minister and ‘doctors’ to find a solution.  The family was quite and kept to themselves.  Cho wrote about a step-father who was abusive, molesting a child.

Why would he write about this?

I don’t’ know how much you know about the warning signs of an abused child, but they include:

withdrawal from family and friends

-sleeplessness

-irrational fears

-depression

-anxiety

-change in weight

-nightmares

-anger

-low self-esteem

-privacy issues

This list includes only a few signs that can point to abuse.  If a child has a couple of these signs, that does not necessarily mean that a child is being abused.  Also, all abused children do not exhibit these signs. No reason is ever a good enough reason to abuse a child.  People who were abused as children sometimes find themselves in a never-ending cycle of abuse.  People who are addicted to any type of substances, or who live under a great deal of stress such as poverty, can find themselves abusing a child.  Parents who move frequently and don't have any medical records for their children, may be hiding something.  Anything that seems suspicious is a possible clue.

Here is another list:

Something was going on in that family.  So far they have been given a pass.  Yes, there are instances of children being born who are total monsters.  There are also instances where children with severe problems have had enough intervention that they are able to succeed in society.  Others turn to crime.  But – everything we learn about Cho screams abuse.  The problem is no one wants to admit it is possible.
