I am working on tomorrow’s blog as I do this one.  Consequently it will be more of a commentary that I can post before I leave for Tombstone.

This is my Blog Critics memorial to GeorgieW.     Unfortunately it’s not over.  Brunhilda is piddling all over my kitchen floor walking into things.  It happened, quite suddenly.  I’m taking her down to the vet tomorrow morning, first thing.  She and her brother, the late great Siggy, were born the same day as my niece, Laura 15.5 years ago.  I’ve just noticed she is looking for a dark corner, trying to get outside, so it is time for some unpleasant decisions.  Right now she is looking for a place to go, somewhere dark – which tells me the end is very, very near.

Is this the face of the "real" James Bond?  undefined

The big news I’ve found for today is the fact that Ian Fleming’s 1st choice to be Bond was Cary Grant.  Someone did a morph composite of all the Bonds – and there is a resemblance to the younger Cary Grant!  Then I discovered my mother already knew about the Cary Grant story.  That’s embarrassing.

The more I think about this stupid Coulter affair the angrier I get – I don’t give a you know what about her.  She’s trite, nothing, a blond twit who thinks she’s cute.  Well, she’s not.  This whole mess is taking the focus away from what we should be discussing, the problems our wounded soldiers are facing with a medical program gone bad.  I just with the conservative blogsphere would devote more time to discussing the problems our heroes are having instead of the demented ravings of a narcissistic  she-bat.  One of the few conservative bloggers who is on the story is Malkin.

DEM CORRUPTION IN NEW MEXICO

We have some serious problems here in NM with misc. Dem political officials.  Everyone knows the state is corrupt.  The problem is, Heather Wilson and Pete Domenici are now under fire for complaining about a an investigation here.  I know very little about it.  Everything political in NM is convoluted and nothing is ever as it seems.  All I do know is the Dem political machine here is corrupt, totally and completely corrupt and they would do anything – anything to take out not only Domenici and Wilson, but also Steve Pierce if they could.   An ethics complaint has been filed   The big problem here in NM is the fact that we have a liberal – Dem controlled media.  Consequently only one side of the story is getting out, unfortunately.  What really makes me mad is the whole thing is now going through Dem controlled committees where they will do ANYTHING to destroy Republican careers.  Liz Mair has the best commentary I’ve seen on the problem  And Curt, over at Flopping Aces reminds us about what Janet Reno did.

And, as if to prove my point…

“JOLLY STEVE PEARCE  If you're keeping score--and who isn't?--GOP southern NM Congressman Steve Pearce was the winner of the PR derby in one of the most memorable weeks in state delegation history. While two of the three R's in the delegation were consumed with Iglesias, Dems Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman were not scoring any points either as the latest blow to Los Alamos Labs had them looking a bit off their game.

We noted Pearce's quick statement last week denying any contact with Iglesias which kept the focus squarely on Wilson and Domenici. On Friday the conservative lawmaker struck a note of odd jocularity. He offered commentary on the brewing scandal and its entertainment value, comparing it with the Anna Nicole Smith saga. What was more striking was Pearce not offering any strong remarks in defense of his two colleagues, but then there could be a U.S. senate seat up for grabs someday soon and someone is going to have to get the Republican nomination.
Pearce has always been the media stepchild among the three GOP NM reps, but with Wilson looking very much like damaged goods and Pete disheveled as well, Pearce's stock, unlike those in the Dow Jones industrial average, was definitely on the rise last week."

The missing Altar Stones from Stonehenge may have been found!

I know it is just coincidence, but yet another Russian journalist shows up dead.

The American Thinker on locking up home schoolers in Germany.     I think after 10 years of home schooling my sister probably wanted to be locked in a padded cell, but this is a little different.

REPUBLICANS

All of the nastiness about Lindsey and the Haynes nomination must not have amounted to much.  It did not even make the SC hotline.

CONSERVATIVE HALL OF SHAME

Captain Ed is circulating a letter about Ann Coulter.  I am posting about it, but because of my schedule tomorrow, my comments on the whole affair will be posted on tomorrow’s Pink Flamingo.  I am pleased to see that someone is making a stand against her remarks, but I don’t think it is going to do any good.  My reasons will appear tomorrow.   What concerns me more is the elite little club that appears to be growing within the “conservative” blogsphere.  More on this tomorrow.

PRIMARIES 2008

One is left with the impression if Giuliani is elected, Ted Olson could end up being Attorney General.  Works for me, definitely.  Olson also says something that would clinch it for me if I weren’t already supporting Rudy.  Olson says Janice Rogers Brown would get the SCOTUS nomination.

Flap on Giuliani in LA and the Andrew issue.  (It's none of our business.  Have you ever had to deal with a 21 year old?  I've recently done so.  Hizhonor has my sympathies).

Edwards has sent 70,000 DVD’s to people in Iowa  Is John Edwards putting all his ‘eggs’ in one Iowa basket?  With all the attention on Hillary and Obama (the messiah) has he become the stealth candidate?  Will Hillary and Obama (the messiah) split their voters giving Edwards the edge?

Drudge has a headline about Hillary adopting a ‘Southern’ accent while in Selma.  Are we beginning to smell the distinct odor of desperation?

Did Romney rig the CPAC straw poll?

Obama’s (the messiah) fundraising suggestion.

Tancredo gave his first stump speech.

Could Richardson benefit from the Obama (the messiah) – Hillary thing?

Krunchy says Romney rigged the Straw Poll.

Is Hugh Hewitt endorsing Romney?  Does this mean every other little mindless conservative who follows his prognostications like drooling robot is going to march lockstep to the voter booth?

My annoyance with Coulter is the fact that she surrendered the moral high ground and makes it more difficult for us to have fun at Edwards’ expanse.  And – we could be having so darn much fun….take this latest….

The absolute beauty of this is the fact that Edwards is now invoking Jesus to denigrate GWB over the war in Iraq.  Funny, but when Republicans do this people make fun of them.  There is a double standard.  We know this, and usually we can work around it.  But, because everyone is complaining about the blond She-bat we lose the most wonderful opportunity to nail Edwards’ hide to the barn door – literally. Thanks a lot Ann!

“…What parts of American life do you think would most outrage Jesus?
Our selfishness. Our resort to war when it's not necessary. I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs. I think he would be appalled, actually.

You've had a lot of experience with suffering. Part of your career has been representing people who we see as suffering. You've also had what you called "world stopping pain" and suffering in your own life. What has that suffering taught you?

It's been part of my own personal faith journey. Because I've done what I think a lot of Americans have done, which [is]: I was raised in a very Christian home and a Southern Baptist church, and baptized in the Southern Baptist church. My dad has been a deacon in the Southern Baptist church for many years. In fact, we went back to my church a few weeks ago and he was getting the Lay Person of the Year Award, which we were all very proud of him for…. Polls show that a lot of Americans think the Democratic Party is hostile to religion. Do you think that the Democratic Party is hostile to religion? If not, why do you think it's perceived that way? Do you think it's changing?

I think that there are lots of very good, strong national Democratic leaders who are people of deep faith. President Carter would be a clear example of that. I think there are lots of us who are people of deep faith.

I think that one of the things that's happened on some of the hot cultural societal issues is that those issues have been used to create a wedge, in some cases, between people of deep faith and the Democratic Party.

And I think one of our responsibilities, one of my responsibilities as one of the leaders of the Democratic Party, is to bridge that gap that has been created. I could go into any evangelical church in America, for instance, and talk about poverty, and our responsibility to those who are living in poverty, and get a terrific response. I am certain of that…. You've been critical, obviously, of President Bush. But, where do you give him the most credit? What do you think he's done a really good job?

You know, I have to be honest about this. I no longer give him much credit. Because I feel like a lot of what the president has done has been either ideologically driven or, in some cases, ego driven. And I don't think he's been open and honest with America in the way that I believe he should have.

I do applaud how he responded in the immediate aftermath of September 11th... I think America was in a difficult place and he was strong for a short period of time after that. But beyond that, it's very hard for me to find [much credit to give]--the cutting away of nutrition programs and so forth from the most needy people in America and taking away funds for kids to be able to go to college. I couldn't personally live with that. I don't know. And it troubles me. It troubles me.

And I think he's very personally invested in his definition of success in Iraq, which I think undermines good judgment about what we ought to be doing under these circumstances.

Last question. In this season of Lent, what's your focus? Are you giving something up? Are you trying to focus on something? Are you trying to fast from something or pick up a new habit?

I haven't done any of those things. You want an honest answer, so I'm going to tell you I haven't done any of those things. What I intend to continue to do, though, if I can bring us full circle back to the beginning of this discussion, is no matter whether anyone asks, no matter whether any other candidate ever raises the issue, as long as I'm alive and breathing and as long as I am a presidential candidate, I will be speaking up for the little guy. And I think that a lot of that has been lost in American politics for strategic political reasons. And their voice needs to be heard--desperately needs to be heard. And if I do nothing else, their voice will be heard through me.”
