I am cutting today’s post short.  I am so close to finishing the preliminary edits on this blasted book I’ve been working on for nearly 7 years.  It has been on again and off again.  I’ve decided it MUST be done by tomorrow.

Today is my sister’s birthday.  More importantly, or I always thought it was, it is the 45th anniversary of the shot heard round the solar system!

THE GREAT CAT SOAP OPERA

Monday evening: Miss Piggy decided she wanted to beat up Bat Masterson, her big brother.  She was haunched over the bowl of (adult food) Meow Mix.  Every time he would come near her she would let out this little kitten fierce growl.  Rums would then position himself between the two, then tried to keep Bat away from Piggy!  Right now, it is Miss Piggy 1 – Bat Masterson 0!

Tuesday evening: I was working on a long procrastinated writing project until about 3AM today.  Then I discovered that Little Joe was trapped inside the batcave.  It took me a good 15 minutes to talk her out of it.  Then Bat Masterson decided he was going to pick a fight with everyone, poodles included.  He was a horror.  I was quite concerned for Miss Piggy. He growled and did that guttural ‘meow’ for over an hour.  It’s now 4AM. I get up and go lecture everyone, as if they could understand.  The growling continued for awhile, then I think Doc Holiday worked him over or gave him what-for. I woke up around 9AM, rolled over and then it was noon!  So much for getting a  head start on today.  Anyway, Bat’s mood seems to be better.  He is finally interacting with Mommy Cat.  I think Miss Piggy, with her 9 week old audacity threatening to beat him up is what sent him over the edge, especially since there is no masculinity now.  I suggested Rumsfeld might want to do a little intervention, but you know him.  He’s too self-absorbed.  On a very positive note, Brunhilda is having a good day!  She ate just a little and is sipping a bit of water.  I think she feels better today.  The old girl has a heck of a lot of fight in her, that’s for sure!

I am sick and tired of these hit counters.  The site meter on The Pink Flamingo shows that I had a whopping 442  hits this whole week!  Well, it’s like this, Blog Harbor says I had a total of 4,697 hits yesterday.  As they are in charge of the band-width, and I’ve been forced to purchase additional bandwidth due to increased traffic last month, something stinks!  According to them, most of my traffic is coming from Google searches, which isn’t what shows up on Blog Harbor.  The site meter I am using comes up with something like 111,000 or so hits since October.  According to Blog Harbor the count was 204,434!  I am trying an additional site meter a friend has highly recommended.  I’ll see what happens with it.  I have my total traffic count of .  Tomorrow we shall see if the numbers hold up on this one.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are finally going to investigate the Clovis culture along the Savannah River!  I’m surprised anyone has the courage to buck the system and do some non-traditional thinking on the subject and the fact that there was a well-defined Clovis culture in that whole region at least 50,000 years ago.  I have Clovis points in a collection (somewhere) that come from the area.  Anyone who is an amateur collector in the are knows how old the region is.  From what I know, and my info is at least 10 year old, there’s more info than what is revealed in the story.

MY RANT OF THE DAY

Oh joy, the greatest cheater in the history of MLB (in my humble opinion) has reported to camp today.  Bonds is doing the Dirty Harry thing and suggesting ‘make my day’.  I wish someone would.  I am so sorry but this is absolutely outrageous.  So Bonds was at the NBA all-star game the other night with his publicist and an MLB body guard.  This is a far cry from the spring where Hank Aaron was on the verge of braking the Babe’s record.

I am a Hank Aaron fan.  I grew up an hour and a half away from the old Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium.  (Actually it took an hour and forty-five minutes to make it to the parking lot, if traffic was running smooth). Packed up somewhere are a whole slew of ticket stubs to prove the number of home runs I saw Aaron hit.  I  among the four-baggers I saw were #’s 699, 703, 711, then quite a few after 715. I know what life was like for him.  In fact, I have the very, very first photo of Aaron in one of the Braves new uniforms, signed by pen, and presented to me by a mutual associate.  Somewhere, still packed up, is one of those news rack promos for the Anderson Independent (I stole it) ‘follow Hammerin’ Hank… I was in the library of my parents’ house when he hit #715 off Al Downing.

The very worst of the Old South was on display that spring.  There were death threats.  This mutual associate told me about some of the letters Aaron received.  His family was terrified some drunken KKK redneck was going to take a pot-shot at him during some game.  There were days when it took nothing but sheer abject courage for that man to step out onto the diamond.

“…Lewis Grizzard, then sports editor of the Atlanta Journal, became so concerned that he had an obituary written just in case.[citation needed] Aaron did receive a massive flood of public support in response to the bigotry. Babe Ruth's widow, Claire Hodgson, even denounced the racists and declared that her husband would have enthusiastically cheered Aaron's attempt at the record. [15]

If Barry Bonds were chasing this magnificent record of 755 Home Runs the old fashioned way, without the help of chemical enhancement, I would be one of those cheering the loudest.  Unfortunately, this is not the case.  I wish it were not.  I also wish the powers that be in Major League Baseball would somehow find a little courage and intestinal fortitude and demand that Bonds play by the rules.  If not, then remove the lifetime bans on Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose.

I love baseball.  This whole steroid thing is breaking my heart.  It is destroying something very special about the most special part of Americana.  It is tainting it, giving baseball a bad name.  Even worse is the fact that by allowing Barry Bonds to even give the impression of cheating to get ahead, it is causing damage to the game.  The worst part - he is setting a horrible example for kids.  The honor of the game has always been of the greatest import, in the past.  Baseball is a mirror of our society.  If so, we are in very serious trouble.

PRESIDENT BUSH

Ed Koch has a great RCP piece today.  How is embarrassing the President going to help us win the war.

“…Democrats and some Republicans in Congress are seeking to humble, embarrass and, if they can, destroy the President and the prestige of his position as the Commander-in-Chief who is responsible for the safety of our military forces and the nation's defenses. By doing so, they are adding to the dangers that face our nation. And so I ask again them again: do you think that leaving a power vacuum in Iraq will make us safer? If, as a result of the power vacuum, the terrorists are emboldened and God forbid we sustain here in the U.S. civilian casualties comparable to those caused in Iraq by car bombs, will you publicly accept responsibility?”

IMMIGRATION

If ‘immigrants rights’ people would not push for things like suffrage for illegals they would have more credibility and attract more people to their cause.  Stuff like this doesn’t help at all.  Let’s face it.  I think by now everyone knows my position on immigration and illegal immigration, but allowing non-citizens to vote, even in NYC, is over the top.

ISLAM, IRAN, TERROR

The growing divide in German – Islam v. the rest of society.

Should a woman be murdered in cold blood, by a serial killer, who is freed from jail – just because she was wearing non-Islamic dress?     I still don’t understand why this is not a feminist issue.

IRAQ

I will refrain from hysteria about the UK troop withdrawal until I know more about it tomorrow.

REPUBLICANS

I could have told you Bob Inglis’s vote on Iraq was not going to sit well in the 4th District, back in SC.  I hope this is just a dose of what all turncoat GOP officials are going to experience.
